  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is your biggest complaint about the Hyundai Genesis?

I don't know...what do you think the 4.6 engine weighs?
Beats me, but I wasn't talking about offsetting the entire weight of the engine - just adding some weight in the trunk to help traction. I find about 200# does the trick.

Is there any way to keep the fan from blowing full blast every time I start the car?
Does this annoy anyone else?

I believe if you turn it off of Auto, you control the fan setting. I'm pretty sure it still attempts to maintain temperature automatically.

My major complaints are

RWD!!!!! This is the worst feature on this car. I know this winter is the winter from hell and i know we've never had a winter like this before but i have Blizzak snow tires and i couldn't drive anywhere!!!! I couldnt get up my hill even on a 'light' snow day, it's to the point that when my lease is up if they don't have an AWD option i will not get another Genesis. There are other items which i don't like for example, the suspension, the rear view mirrors, and the tires.
...

Every one seems to have some minor problems even if they were rating their new Mercedes or Rolls for that matter....regarding the winter driving, my 4.6 (silver with black and tech) sits in the garage during the bad winter months and thats why I have an AWD SUV. If you think the Genesis is bad try driving a Nissan 370Z in snow, I don't take that one out until the roads are nice and dry. RWD cars have been around for a long time, back in the 60's and 70's I merely put on a good set of snow tires and had few to no problems here in thr snowy mountains of W. PA.

We NW PA old timers know a thing or two about driving RWD in snow! I grew up just south of Erie in the lake effect snow band - we had perpetual snow from Thanksgiving to Easter. If we wanted to go anywhere we had to know how to drive. Watching the MD drivers where I now live would laughable if they weren't so dangerous.

I have a 2011 4.6 sedan and the biggest problem is the vehicle just doesn't coast. You let your foot off the gas and every 10 miles the vehicle gears down. The dealership says this is better and is better on gas mileage but I can't believe it.

I really can't quite agree with you, my 4.6 coasts like a champ and is equal to my other cars, although the Nissan 370Z with a manual will outcoast it out of gear. I'm making comparisons on a certain stretch of highway leading up to an interstate exit where I shut off the cruise control at the same bridge each time so conditions are always the same. I understand th 4.6 abruptly shuts off the fuel supply when car is in the coast down mode, other cars do not necessarily do the same. Man this is one smooth machine!

I can agree with him! This is a constant occurrence with my 3.8. I am also told that this is within 'Hyundai specs'. This is the same reply I get for a lousy cruise control, and a worthless torque converter, they are all 'within specs'. I'll bet you the farm that if an automotive writer was in the car they wouldn't be saying that. "Within specs" is code for 'this transmission is a POS but we're not going to fix it!

My 2011 4.6 coasts and shifts perfectly.

Just what does that mean to me and others whose cars don't shift and coast as they should? Is there a point that you are attempting to make?

Perhaps they're trying to let you know, or give you further ammunition, that it isn't normal.

The point is that at least with the 4.6 with ZF german transmission your problem would not be normal. I cannot speak for the 3.8 transmission which is different. The 4.6 v8 with hydraulic lifters (3.8 has solid lifters) and the ZF transmission are two of the minor reasons I went with the 4.6 V8 and the fact that mpg were only 2 or so less. A car can have a bad transmission when new. A few years ago I had a new Ford Focus delivered to my work place and on day two with 180 miles on the car it left me walking in the middle of six lanes of traffic due to a bad automatic transmission. You should insist on talking directly to the tech at the dealership that works on transmissions. Managers sometimes just give lip service.

Passenger seat. The seat should have the same controls as the driver side and including cooling. Hyundai should have considered this in the design. Or is the 2012 going to have this, if so will consider trade to get it.

Nope - 2012's will have heated rear seats, but not cooled passenger seats, front or rear. Driver only.

Regarding coasting or lack thereof, my 4.6 ZF also does not coast. In fact it has noticeable shift points where you feel resistance while decelerating. At first it really bothered me but 9 months later I hardly notice the effect.

The coasting issue I think is similar to 'the ride' issue. Some people notice it and it drives them crazy. Others have always driven cars that are firmly 'in gear' and have no clue what the others are complaining about. With a manual transmission, some people will shift to neutral while coming to a stop or going down a long hill. The other side will tell you that is unsafe and you should always be in gear. The Genesis, to me, offers a transmission tailored to those in the 'always in gear' crowd.

Much like the stiffer ride, you will get used to it over time.

A plain ole' flash drive works perfectly, costs next to nothing, and holds hundreds of cd's worth of content

Too many things gone wrong and a dealership network ill equipped to work on the vehicle. Latest thing gone wrong, driver side power seat just quit and my trunk will not open using the door switch or key fob button. I have to open it with the key. I checked the fuses and relays and all ok. This car is killing me. I just don't know what will be next.
