What is your biggest complaint about the Hyundai Genesis?

Why an Azera when one could buy the FWD Sonota or Optima offering better everything? With escalating energy cost, a smaller RWD sedan on the order of a BMW 5 series or G37 seems ideal. The current Genesis is sized as a limo for corporate Korea. While it's a great car, nothing remains constant and Hyundai (and all auto makers) must constantly adjust for a changing market. Currently the RWD niche offers no affordable sedans (smaller than the Genesis), so Hyundai/Kia might control this sector.
 
After a smaller Mercedes all I wanted was something bigger. I live in a city but nothing pleases me more than a large car that people can get in an out of easily especially out of the back seats. People in my c class had to almost fall out of the rear seat. And this coming from someone who lives in a city where parking is a pain. Im good with a nice big rear wheel drive car with a powerful engine. But thats me :-)

I was thinking of the new 2012 Azera. But we have gone away from the subject. So, in an earlier post I said I did not like the Dunlops(which rank 6th from bottom to dead last in every category in the surveys on tirerack.com) and have now replaced them with Bridgestone Turanza Serenity tires w rated. Car corners better, rides better, and less noise. 200% percent better in heavy rain. Note to Hyundai - Cancel your contract with Dunlop and put some better tires on the Genesis.

Sounds to me like the perfect car for you is the Lexus IS. Starts in the low $30's from what I remember... RWD, smaller, peppy. I liked the original when it first came out, but went German instead.

Regret it.
 
While I like my Genesis 3.8 in every way, I am hoping that it can be downsized (to the size of a BMW 5 series sedan) with the car's next significant model change. Also, with the smaller size, one would have the option of a turbo four diesel or gas engine. The idea of a inexpensive RWD sedan with good economy would make the the Genesis a unique and attractive product. The present (read larger) version would continue under the Equus banner and those wishing a break from $4.00/gallon gas would have the choice of a "smaller" Genesis sedan.

What you want is a sedan based on the Genesis coupe platform, I'd say...

Hyundai is missing a size car - you have the Equus competing with the LS/S/7 (and arguably A8, though that's not RWD), the Genesis competing with the GS/E/5, and... nothing... competing with the IS/C/3. That missing car is what you want.

(I personally suspect that there is a prototype of a smaller RWD sedan floating around some secret Hyundai facility in Korea, just like I think there's a prototype body-on-frame RWD pickup truck floating around the same compound. But that's my pure speculation...)
 
Yes, I'd prefer the option of a smaller sedan based on the Genesis platform. Because they are expensive to develop, manufacturesr often build multiple vehicles using variations of the same chassis. For example, Ford uses version of the Volvo S-80 chassis (one reason they bought Volvo) for the Edge, Flex, Taurus, Lincoln MK's and possibly the new Explorer. GM uses the same RWD chassis for the Pontiac G8 (Holden) sedan and the new Camero. Hyundai shares same chassis for its new Sonota and Optima and another for the Kia K9, Genesis and Equus. In the case of the latter, the chassis was made slightly larger for the Equus. Conversely, the Genesis chassis could be downsized and powered by a turbo four diesel or gas engine. As indicated in the last thread, a sedan body on the Genesis Coupe chassis might be the result.

The 4.6 coupled with the wonderful ZF transmission is much smoother and remarkably powerful compared to the 3.8 but does use a little more fuel.

In reading about all the nit picks it makes me wonder if anything some of these people come in contact with is acceptable. Sounds like a bunch of kids whining to me!!!

Maybe those of us who grew up in NW PA just have lower expectations... :D

Living in South Florida, the world leader in people who complain about everything, I have learned to become a "Don't sweat the small stuff" kind of guy

I know this winter is the winter from hell and i know we've never had a winter like this before but i have Blizzak snow tires and i couldn't drive anywhere!!!! I couldnt get up my hill even on a 'light' snow day, it's to the point that when my lease is up if they don't have an AWD option i will not get another Genesis. There are other items which i don't like for example, the suspension, the rear view mirrors, and the tires.

Any RWD is going to perform terrible in winter conditions.

Those of us who learned to drive in the north in the 50's had no choice - all cars were RWD. Conditions that are challenging for FWD are also challenging for RWD, but with proper equipment and technique RWD is no worse than FWD.

I grew up in Minnesota and only drove RWD cars in the 60s. However 1 Major difference between FWD and RWD is that the Engine is above the tires on FWD and you do have much better traction.

So in order for RWD to be no Worse than FWD, you need to put about 1,000 pounds in the trunk.

Although the weight distribution on the Genesis is close to 50/50. FWD doing better in the snow also has to do with the fact that the wheels are pulling the car over the snow as opposed to rwd drive pushing the front tires into the snow. I think, however, that RWD has many more advantages in handling and control overall in non snow conditions. Also, RWD is not a problem with the Genesis, its the driveline layout of the car and if someone does not like a RWD car then why buy a RWD car. I bet some drivers don't even know if they are driving a FWD or RWD car, or how to check oil level.

A couple of hundred pounds, maybe. I toss in 3 or 4 bags of topsoil (it's compact, heavy, and I always need it for the yard/garden in the spring) and that does the trick. A thousand pounds is perhaps a tad overstated...:D

I don't know...what do you think the 4.6 engine weighs?

This is not really an answer but,

V6 has a 52/48 percent front/rear weight ratio

V8 has a 53/47 percent front/rear weight ratio

The V8 option weighs about 260 pounds more than the v6.
