Thanks MHT!
Hi - Just tried to loosen the 2 "star" bolts to release the airbag unit from the steering wheel using a T40 star wrench. The wrench fit fine but I couldn't get the bolt loose easily. I was hesitant to use too much force, and just wanted to ask first if it is normal to have to use alot of torque force to loosen these bolts. Thanks in advance.
This has been discussed several time before. Some will (usually for a service fee) and some will refuse to do it even if you pay them (presumably because of liability issues). You should ask them before you sign the sales contract and put it in writting if they verbally agree (just add that as a condition of sale, and initial it, and get the sales manager to initial it).Hi all,
I'm just about to buy my first Genesis but have a question about rebadging the airbag. If I buy an airbag set with the winged emblem from a third party, will my Hyundai dealer or another car repair place install this? I'm not very handy with cars...
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks again MHT. I was able to loosen the 2 star bolts with a bit more leverage, then tighteded them back up. So now I'm ready to try the installation when the new airbag arrives. Will let you know how I make out.
Just replaced the original airbag with the "winged" version. It was a snap and only took 10 minutes. My dealer said they would have charged $100! I would never have had he nerve to try it without the very heplfull photos from the original poster (ASHDUMP) and with the advice and encouragement of MHT. Thank you all!!!! Bob Burgess
I installed the airbag today. It was extreamly easy and would have to say the hardest part was disconnecting the battery. Only because I didn't feel like taking out the rubber trunk mat and was bending over while it was on top of my head!
1. Disconnect the battery. I had to put a ball of paper towels under the (-) terminal because there was no slack for it to stay away from the battery.

2. Unscrew the two (star) screws on either side of the steering wheel.
3. Pull SRS towards you and look behind to see whats going on.

4. Disconnect the ground and the 2 black and red plugs. This is where using a very small flat head will come in handy. You need to pop the yellow clips upward to release the plugs.

5. Now the SRS is completely disconnected.

6. Now follow all the steps in reverse to put the new winged badge SRS airbag on and enjoy.
*Please remember that you are doing this at your own risk. I am not responsible for anyone or any product you purchase. Also keep in mind that this was how I installed my SRS airbag. You may choose to do so differently.
Also remember to follow the instruction in the Hyundai manual for disconnecting the battery.
