  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm the current owner of an '07 Acura TL trying to decide between the 2012 Genesis and TL. Reliability and durability are my biggest concerns about the Genesis. I've put 130K on the TL with nothing more than routine maintenance to date, and I'll be putting similar mileage on my next car over the next 3-4 years. Sure, luck plays a role in such things, but can I hope for something approaching that level of reliability with this vehicle?
I'm also the kind of guy who is going to regularly drive in anything from a 3-piece suit to sweaty gym clothes. The TL's interior materials have taken a beating and continue to look great. Will the leather in the Genesis measure up?
I also drive somewhat aggressively - hard acceleration, fast into turns, etc. How does the Genesis suspension/handling compare to the TL?
Just as a side note, price, fuel economy (the regular gas for the Genesis is a plus), and features are comparable, since I'm looking at the Tech packages for both vehicles. The torque-steer of the FWD TL is something I'm used to and won't be a factor in my decision.

I too just traded in my 07 TL on a genesis 3.8. I had a different set of circumstances with my TL. Replaced steering box, replaced transmission, and numerous minor items including the notoriuos window motors. All under warranty but still problems with the quality. I have only had the genesis for a month, but in my opinion the genesis is much more to my liking as far as the refinements, lack of noise and ride quality. However, I do not drive the way you describe yourself. In all honesty based on my experience I did not even consider another Acura this time.

I agree that Acuas are fine cars and so is te Genesis. We replaced our 2004Acura with a 2011 4.6 tech Genesis. Now have 34000 miles on the Genesis and other than the POS dunlop tires the car is perfect. We plan on driving it to about 230,000 miles which is the about the number of miles we put on the Acura. I do have to say that the Genesis is more comfortable on long trips and is quieter with a lot more power. New Bridgestone Turanza Serenity tires handle better and ride better than the Dunlops.

I had an 04 TL that I got 160K miles on; only major repair was the catalytic converter, though when I traded it in, the steering wheel was whining when the weather was cold.

If I'm honest, my 2010 Genesis doesn't handle as well as the TL did, nor was it as stable at high speeds.
The Genesis however feels much more solid and better assembled, and the interior is *much* quieter. I had squeaks and rattles from my TL from the day I drove it off the lot.

This topic really peaks my interest. Ive always been a Honda man but in the last 10 years ive really found it hard to be interrested in a Honda/Acura of any type. They just really lost their touch. Both my parents own Hyundai and Me and the Fiance have been talking about picking up a lightly used Genesis Sedan as a road trip car and a DD. I think the new Acuras are just butt ugly and their quality is slipping fast. I was up at the Hyundai dealer today and the white 4.6 caught my eye and I was drooling.....until I saw the Equus in white, then it was :eek::eek: haha But I dont think she will spring for something that high:) Thanks for these reviews, they will deff help when im ready to sign!:grouphug:

my family used to own all Honda/Acura. Now, there are 2 Honda left in the line up. And it looks more and more like we will be replacing it with something else. Most of the new Honda/Acura lacks inspiration and just down ugly and behind in tech.

We are looking at a new Veloster that just came out. It looks sweet and has all the stuff that my wife would like (backup cam). I think Hyundai found their touch just like how Honda did years ago.

Traded in Acura TL 2009 30K (pearl white) for Acura TL 2012 tech (pearl white); all for the tech package; drove the Genesis past weekend and was only mildly impressed with the performance; the ACURA TL 2012 seemed slightly more "refined" in its drive presentation, as subjective as that statement is; in 2 weeks I only have 500 miles on the chassis and 40 miles of that was round trip to the Hyundai dealer to try out the Genesis; the steering and feedback of the road in the Acura TL is subjectively more positive compared to to my 1/2 hour test drive in the Genesis 2012 model (pearl white)....can't make this stuff up, either)..
I'll keep reading the reviews here, as the Genesis's list of stuff that is delivered on its base model is impressive: the 8 speed AT v. the 6 speed AT of the TL is in print, at least, one for Hyundai; however, the TL's 6-speed is very responsive and smooth to not notice and not complain, either.
This is my 4th ACURA and will not have much mileage in three years when I'll either trade it, keep it or sell it, for something like the new NSX when it is intro'd. the dealer had the NSX poster with the ISX that will be available in 2013, I think (if's the size of the Lexus (smaller sized...~ Rs omething...platform)...
For now, I'm enjoying the 2012 TL platform and the rear facing aft cam that helps get out of the local Home Depot's parking lot without running over the hand trolleys of Ply board toting home owners with their weekend project supplies.
I'm really enjoying the TL equipped with the Michelin VRs on standard 17 inch wheels and its very responsive steering; road throughput is outstanding and road surface sensitivity-response with these shoes; I like very much and have no complaints at all; I preferred to my very limited test drive of the 2012 Genesis; and, I really didn't feel any of the shift points of the 8-speed AT in that car, either.
That's all I can offer, now.
I prefer the TL's leather interior, too; subjectively. Perhaps it's because it's tan and anticipate it will wear-in well, as long as the sweaty gym rats ride home in their cars and don't plop down before I scoot off without offering to drive them home ;).

In 2009, I was planning on getting a TL, until I saw it, and then ended up with Genesis. 2012 TL styling is definitely improved, but would have been nice if they never went down that styling path to begin with.

Think subliminally I hated that "beak" on the 2009 TL; the 2012 is completely re-designed on the front end and eliminated the "beak"; tech package also comes with a lip "spoiler" on the rear deck that carries the shape back to through the trunk lid, too; The instrumentation on Hyundai's Genesis is without a doubt more elegant and appears far superior in presentation to the TL...my opinion; my impression is the TL has a better "feel" for the damping of vertical movement; less harsh without being mushy. just right for my taste, that is a personal choice and is arguable.

I haven't driven the 2012 TL, but I don't doubt your assessment of its handling and suspension being better than the Genesis. It will be interesting to see what Hyundai does in this area for the next generation Genesis (projected to be MY 2014).
