  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No sound out of speakers

My 2011 V8 is about 4 weeks old and ive the no sound issue for the first time today. It happened in the middle of the day when I was do errands. Everything worked fine in the morning but after lunch my ipod did not turn on when i started the car...then i realized i had no sound at all. More specifically, i got in my car, made a call on my iphone, the phone started to ring, i pushed the ignition button, finished my phone call, and then realized i had no sound. After driving for a about five minutes, i turned my car off and then quickly back on. No luck. I tried again, with no luck. After getting home, I tried again. I could see my cd was playing, but no sound. Tried XM, no sound. After repeated attempts, I gave up. I then went to my computer to search the forum and read this thread. Ughhhh. Not good news as it sounds like there is no definitive fix. Maybe new amp? 45 minutes later i tried my car again...and sound re-appeared.

Was the problem related to using my phone BEFORE bluetooth was connected?

I will update if i learn more.

YEP I have the same thing head unit was replaced ? but ID same? Who knows !!! I GAVE UP ON SYSTEM SOMETIMES IT WORKS AND SOMETIMES IT DOES WHAT IT WANTS --- I JUST GO TO RADIO AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I START UP AGAIN ..OTHER THAN NAV SYSTEM , I LIKE THE CAR & WON'T WAIST ANY MORE TIME ON IT..DEALER KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT IT OR WON'T TELL ME THAT IT'S CRAP THEY CAN'T FIX----SHOULD I TRY FOR A NEW AMP ???????
ANYBODY GOT ANY IDEAS FOR ME ????
THANKS
IKEYM
Did you ever get this resolved? My head unit was replaced but I also have the original ID for my XM Radio. Is the XM part of the Amplifier assembly and therefore, should be replaced separately? Thanks!

hey-
my 2011 4.6 did the same thing this evening when i was coming home from work. Right after i started the ignition i hit the phone icon on the steering wheel. The car placed the call, but was unable to hear or communicate with the other person. Disconnected phone from car and made call on phones speaker only to realize that the car was not producing sound from xm, cd, radio or aux unit. Depressed i headed home -tried the quick restart of car like you to no avail. Got online about forty minutes after getting home and read your entry -deja vu. Went back out without phone and car startyed with all sound returned!!! Hooray and thanks for writing what happened to you. By the by-I think the dis is touchy and one must wait a minute before attempting to use it or any bluetooth device around it

My 09 3.8 Tech did same thing Christmas morning.....

I tried restarting a few times to no avail......So i pulled out a pair of pliers and disconnected the bat and reconnected....viola.

This tells me it has to be something in the signal the amp is sending because the radio/xm/nav remembered everything in memory!!!!!!! So the battery that stores all that info is not controlling mute functioning (not surprising)

Tom

Which battery - assuming you mean the "only battery under the hood" as it is. So, you disconnected the battery and the car then resynchronizes everything?

I disconnected the battery in the truck (next to spare tire)

Got in my car today (16K mikes) and had my first experience with this issue. Of course i had a 3 hour drive ahead of me with no music.

I stooped at a Starbucks for 20min and it started working.

Recommendations? Has a real fix been identified?

Ed

New 2012 3.8 tech. This happened twice in the six weeks I've owned it. Drives me CRAZY!! There has got to be a simple fix/explination of what is happening. Let's do our best to help each other on this one...there are electronic grimlins that plague this vehcile that when all is said and done will yeild to a simple fix...lets hope.

I have read in similar forums on here that if you hold the head units power on/off button in that it will reboot the system and become functional. And/or shut the vehicle off for about 5 minutes then restart.

No one should have to do this as a upadate is obviously needed to the ECU.
Please voice your e-mails to the main Hyundai headquarters via e-mail so a software patch can be made available. The more wheel's squeek the more attention they recieve...

Until then hope this helps an issue you should not have had upon your plate in the 1st place.

Is it really this simple? I would not have lemon law'd my Genesis if all I had to do was turn the audio system off with the power button and back on.

Hi Guys,

Just picked up a pre-owned 09 Genesis 3.8 Tech/Premium on Wednesday. Love the car, traded in an 08 535i and this car is hands down better than my old Bimmer. Prior to buying the car, I saw that some vehicles had issues with the speakers not working intermittently. I checked the vehicle history and also asked the salesman about this issue, which he denied knowing about. Regardless, this issue has happened twice in 3 days. In both instances, turning the car off and waiting 15-30 minutes has resolved the issue. Is this just a crazy quirk about these cars, or do I need to go get a new amp, head unit, blah blah blah? I've read that some folks have gone through several new amps and head units to no avail, so I don't want to waste my time.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

Bill

Personally I believe from all that has been posted it is a software glitch, or too slow a processor for the muliple tasks being put upon it. There are many operating parts and some of them are not "shaking hands" with eachother and thus the computer in the car freezes up or locks up until rebooted.

Kinda of like when your at your home computer or laptop and you have too many programs running and your screen freezes. Then you reboot and all is well untill you mulitask beyond the computers processor's capabilities again.

In summary therefore what can we do? Email no less than 2 to 3 Hyundai organizations and higher up executives. After all if a higher speed processor will fix it then why not install ASAP. And/or if it's a software glitch then set Hyundai's programmers loose on it until rectified. This issue can be corrected to where it is a non issue anymore if we all use our voices.
Nothing can take away the joy of owning a new vehicle faster than when it is not operating as designed.

I will post this issue on the hyundai think tank where maybe the exec's will review.

Yes timc1475 I agree that this is some sort of software glitch or logic circuit that isn't quite ready for prime time...but If I could just reset it someway that would be OK. Not happy but I could live with it. I do think Hyundai listens even if the fix is only presented in a new model...If they just recognize a problem and help us. Not to much to ask.

It's definatly software. I haven't had the issue since I unsubscribed
from XM. Over a year without this issue. I did have the amp and
Head Unit replaced.

2010 Genesis 4.6 DIS, 3200 miles, purchased new July 2010

On August 18, 2011 I had my first "Check Antenna" message on the screen and no sound from any source. This occurred in the morning after the car was turned off the night before in XM mode. After several on/off tries and no reboot over a 2 hour period, I called the dealership.

The service rep said bring it in, and when I went to do just that the sound was back on. I called the rep again, and he said bring it in when it happens again. He said there was no point in looking at the system while it was working. He denied any awareness of the issue. I'm skeptical - this problem appears to have been around for ~3 years and Hyundai Corporate must be aware of the problem, if not the solution. Has anyone had any luck speaking with a knowledgeable Hyundai spokesperson on this issue?

1) Did you try holding the stereo on/off button in until it reboots?
2) Did you wait at least 5-10min before engine off/on? Just curious as I have heard these are a temporary fix until Hyundai addresses the issue via update.
On another note the service dept "should have" at least allow you to bring your car in so they could test for any codes...
Also please contact and share this issue with those in my above post to help elevate this issue priority level.
Join the Hyundai Think Tank it is free and you can post there as well. The big wigs do monitor that board more than this one.

It happened to me once in 27 months of the Genesis 4.6. Waited 20 minutes and all was fine, never happened again. Chalked it up to a glitch, never thought to write Hyundai in complaint. If it happened repeatedly I'd see the wisdom of swapping out the head unit and amp (as some had done).

The same issue just happened to me yesterday in my 2009/Tech package. The radio and Bluetooth worked fine going into work in the morning. When I get back in the car to drive home the radio and Bluetooth our out with the “check antenna” error. I called the dealer and scheduled an appointment for next Thursday on my way home. Then on the way home I stopped and filled up the car. When I got back in the car the radio and phone worked fine again. I then get home and find this thread and realized this is a wide problem. It has worked fine today. I guess I will cancel the appointment since it doesn’t appear anyone has had any firm success with a solution.
