If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Help: Rear back up camera problems!!

I fixed my intermittent camera failure when it went black the last time. I started the car, put it in reverse, black screen appeared, keeping it in reverse I set the parking brake and got out.... scarry... opened the trunk and vigorously pushed the outside trunk opening button rapidly several times as I watched the screen through the back window. BLINK!!!.... picture returned. That told me there was an obvious short in that area. Dealer refused to deal with it because they "failed to duplicate the problem". Lazy fart. Anyway, problem hasn't returned. Parking brake worked for me during this process, but I was really careful! Maybe getting someone to keep their foot on the brake for me would have been more prudent.

There was a technical bulletin sent to the dealerships to fix this problem free of charge. Don't know what they did, but an hour and a half later it was fixed. They do not send such info to owners unless the problem occurs. They only contact owners for recalls or (I would think) serious problems.

Has anyone experienced a problem with the rear back up camera display? I have had my vehicle in to two different dealers in the Chicagoland area and they haven't been able to find the glitch. It was an intermittant problem with the display ocassionally getting a garbled picture while backing up. Now there is no picture at all. They have changed the camera and the control module in the trunk with no change. All the other display functions work perfectly. I'm interested if any one has experienced similar problems and what was done to resolve it. Thanks!

I have the same problem. The no picture dark screen seems to happen only when the outdoor temperature is cold. My garage is part of my house and the temperature never goes below 50 degrees. When backing out of my garage the back up camera works. The probem occurs when the car is parked outdoors in the winter. The car was at the dealer once for this problem and they didn't find anything wrong. Now I know it is temperature related and will bring it in again.

Over the past year I had 4 events where the back up camera failed to show when I put the car in reverse. It always "fixed" itself after the car was stopped and started.
Dealer , not able to reproduce, had no suggestion

Now, at 63k miles it appears it has completely died. The back camera has not worked since Friday afternoon.

Should be a fun trip to the dealer,, Head unit, camera, wires.... anyone willing to guess the price?

63,000 miles. Man you're driving. Hopefully these repairs won't cost you too much.

So Scheduled to go in Tuesday, and the backup camera started working again.

I am sure this will be a wasted trip.

racking my head.... I washed the car the day before the camera failed... could be water got in and took 5 days to dry.....

thanks, I actually slowed down a LOT this year. Less travel and more time at home is nice....

not related but I will say 63k in, still rides and looks like new (minor paint fixes due to parklot door dings)

Keep us updated Wally. Hope they can locate a possible entry for water and nab the issue right away and fix the issue to it won't happen again.

I've had the same problem; no predictability. It seems to happen rarely, but at the same time, I've seen it happen more than once. And I'm at 42K after 16 months of ownership :-(.

Yes, I have had this problem at least three times over the past two years. It was fixed two times but the problem returned. There is a fix for this now that works. New camera installed which is also clearer and now, no problems.

Same intermittent problem here with black screen and dotted lines. Took mine in yesterday expecting "tech cannot duplicate problem" but they ordered a new camera.

Same problem here... Now not intermitent at all... Will take it to the dealer tomorrow for an appointment...

black screen with lines started a couple days ago. I have an all-state extended service contract. Dropped her off today, we will see what happens.

fixed - lose fiber optic cable at the back of the head unit - $100

Has anyone found a HiDef, after-market camera, which is plug-and-play for their Genny??

For the last 2 months, my car has been back to the dealer 3 times. I'm getting a "blue screen" when I put my car into reverse. Of course its intermittent, but I was able to drive straight to the dealer when it happened and it continued to happen at the dealer. They've done a software update on trip 1, replaced the camera on trip 2, and replace the entire head unit on trip 3. Trip 3 was last week. Now its happening again and I am guessing its some sort of faulty wiring. Waiting for my dealership to call me back on next steps. This is beyond aggravating and a huge safety issue.

To add my two cents to the thread, I had the black screen problem twice.

First time was back in 2012 when the car was still under warranty and they fixed the problem by changing the camera unit as well as the control module in the trunk.

2nd was last Saturday. I ordered a camera unit alone without control module for 82CDN $ on the internet and replaced it myself. Fixed... My advice is that if you are not under warranty you should stay away from the dealer as they sell this unit for much more than 82CDN$ and they try to sell you the conteol module with it. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, buy the part online and have them change it.

Anyone can fix the module himself if it ends up being needed. It's located on the drover side of the trunk around the back of the fuel door. You just have to remove the finition piece inside the trunk on the left side, remove the 2 nuts holding the module and unplug it.

Enjoy your Genesis 😄

Michael,

Can I please ask where you bought it from?
I need a new camera too for my 2009 MY V8.

I can't believe how cheap you paid for it.

Merci a l'avance

Je l'ai acheté sur Amazon. 75$ + tx There was 6 left when I bought mine last week.

Si tu as autour 6.5V ton module est Ok.
Sinon tu peux trouver un module used sur eBay. Sur Amazon cherche le part #95760-3m060 pour la caméra et 95770-3m100 sur eBay pour le control module si nécessaire.

Let me know si tu as besoin de plus d'info.
