  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Seems that more often than not, the audio comes on when I start the car even though it was off when car was shut down. Anyone else experiencing this? Very annoying because even when you depress the control knob on audio system, it does not immediately go off. Requires several attempts.

Folks with "updated software" in their Tech package Nav+Entertainment system have reported this... if a USB stick is plugged in when the vehicle is started. I have an early 2009 version, original software, and do not have this problem. There is a long thread about this elsewhere...

Interesting. I do not have USB stick plugged in but I do have the USB/Iphone adapter plugged in. May try unplugging and see what happens.

I keep a USB stick in all the time and yes it has happened to me. Takes a few pushes to shut off.

Should not be something that happens and maybe down the road there will be a software update to correct it assuming dealers become more aware of the issue.

Now really getting annoying as radio comes on every time I start the car even though AV was off when shutting down. I do have Ipod connection plugged into the USB port but no Ipod connected or phone. Will try disconnecting same but this should not be necessary just get radio off as default setting.

That's what said 2 days ago, but I don't think the iPhone plug has anything to do with it. Are you still under warranty? If so, just take it to the dealer and maybe they'll replace the head unit.

Most definitely under warranty and when I hit 7500 miles and schedule a service visit, I will submit list of concerns. I had the 3500 mile oil change done at a another dealer while I was out of state in August. Only at 5100 miles now so have few months to go.

Update: USB unplugged and saved settings for driver one with audio off. Started several times and radio was not on but later today, it did come on when I started the car. Interesting thing is that when I executed the command for "audio off", the radio remained on. Not enough for me to run back to dealer but will be on my punch list when I do go for service.

I have exactly the same issue with my 2011 Genesis. I got it this May and it has now 5,355 miles. This behavior started immediately. At first I thought that it was my memory and I kept forgetting to turn A/V off before stopping the car but quickly realized that it was not me.

It does not irritate me enough to go to the dealer and I am waiting till 7,500 miles oil change to address this annoyance.

I am unable to reproduce it reliably but have some observations to share:

1. It only happens if last source was XM. Never happened if last source was disk or AM/FM. I do not use USB or IPod connections.
2. When it does happen navigation screen shows A/V OFF while music is playing and it takes 2 presses of A/V on/off button to turn music off (on either steering wheel or on the dash). After first press navigation screen shows A/V ON and music keeps playing. After second press navigation screen shows A/V OFF and music stops.
3. On average it happens 1 out of 10-15 times I start my car. More often after short run and stop (like while going grocery shopping).
4. It will almost always happen if after turning car off I open fuel cap door by pressing button on the drivers door or if I make any tilt/telescopic adjustments to the steering wheel. Opening trunk by using exterior button also triggers this behavior I would say 80% of the time. Opening trunk using interior button on the drivers door never does.
5. It usually does not happen for entire 5 weekdays during my regular 45 miles round-trip commutes to work and would return during the weekend (see 3 and 4 above). Last Sunday it happened 4 out of 5 times I started my car (all short runs home/gas station/grocery store/hardware strore/pharmacy/home).

Just bizarre

FanGenDriver,
Sure glad it just wasn't me! Bizarre exactly and I also will address with dealer at 7500 miles.

The verbal command "Audio Off" has never worked for me only "AV Off".

Ernie3657,
That is what I meant to say. I do use AV Off but unfortunately when I am experiencing my problem, the system does not respond.

Quick question (for anyone):

Why do you turn the AV off at all? I don't think it ever occurred to me to do so in the 36 months I've had this system.
Is there a reason I should be doing it?
Thanks.

There are times I just do not want to hear any music etc and just enjoy the drive and feel of the car.

My 2011 Tech with 11k:

1. ALWAYS plays the USB stick if left plugged in (even when turned off before shutdown of car)

2. About half of the time the radio comes on at startup, even when not used on previous drive.

Annoying! And has increasingly caused me to just sneer and think "cheap Korean car" as I turn it off.

I seem to be having some success by initiating the verbal command for AV Off and then storing it memory for driver 1. So far so good but this may well change tomorrow. Just a minor glitch as I still love the car. More importantly, I would like to see either an official software fix from Iphone or Hyundai to address the incoming call ID issue.

Me too! But I just turn the volume down. Actually, I do that often.

I also just turn down the volume.. whole bunch easier.

My last 4 cars - domestic, japanese, german and the Genesis have had voice commands. I have yet to test drive or own a vehicle with voice commands that was worth a darn.... for me voice commands are just about useless... 'pardon?'

Pretty darn sure that the 'memory' is for seat, tilt and mirror position only. From the Owners Manual: "driver position memory system is provided to store and recall the driver seat, outside rearview mirror and steering wheel positions with a simple button operation."
