  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been looking for a Genesis (black/black with Tech) for about 4 months and finally found one (albeit 245 miles away). It's a certified 2009 4.6 with 35k miles for ~$25,500. Carfax is clean, 1 owner, etc.

First Q: I'm in MN, and there is a lack of Genny's for sale here. Is this a good price? One dealership here is selling an 09 4.6 with 24k miles for about $28,900 and its not certified.

Second: I've been reading about the potential issues with the sound/DVD etc. Is buying the extended warranty (HPP, i think its called) worth it? I don't want to buy the car and have electrical issues in 2k miles after the limited warranty runs out. I think they quoted me $1,600 for the HPP.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate your time!

If you put a lot miles on the car in a year like 30K or more then don't buy the HPP. If you drive about 10k to 15K then I would buy the HPP. My reason is that if you put a lot miles on the car per year then the 1600 does not buy you many months of coverage.

I read here in other threads that the Hyundai US Extended warranty specifically does not cover the vehicle electronics, especially the Nav/Audio systems. Maybe somebody can confirm.

Strangely the Hyundai Canada extended warranty is bumper-to-bumper with no exclusions except for wear & tear items. I suspect we pay a lot more for it though, but for high mileage drivers it is probably worth it.

As I understand it, the US warranty only electronics for 36,000 miles. Canada may be different, and I might be wrong. You can probably find the information on the Hyundai website.

If you get the Platinum Extended Warranty from Hyundai, it covers electronics. The lower levels (Gold, etc) do not (and then only regular 3 year - 36K mile limit applies from regular warranty).

Warranties are actually provided by the marketing company (Hyundai Motor America, Hyundai Auto Canada, etc), and not the manufacturer, for a variety of reasons, including that warranty laws vary by country (and sometimes by state in the US). Hyundai marketing/importer companies in every country do not provide a 10 yr/100K powertrain warranty, and other warranty terms vary as well.

Thanks for all the replys. From reading the other forums here and doing some research online, I see the different levels over coverage through the HPP.

Being so close to 36,000 miles, I'm thinking I probably should. Is the $1,600 pricetag negotiable? Can I get it from a different dealer than the one I buy the car from? Anyone know what the dealer cost would be?

Yes, the price of the warranty is negotiable. You can purchase official Hyundai extended warranties online from other Hyundai dealers (or from any local Hyundai dealer in your area). I believe that a comptetive price is about $1100 for the 10 year / 100K miles Platinum warranty.

Thanks Mark!

And, I'm guessing that if the price of the car was way out of wack, people would have said something. ~$25,600 for the CPO 09 4.6 Genny must be a fair price?

according to edmunds.com, retail price is 28k.
25k is for private sale, so you're getting a very good price, especially on a CPO.
anyway, these figures are for california.
you can check edmunds, kbb, nada for estimates.

Hmm. It appears that audio is not covered in the Platinum Plan. I thought it was peviously, but not sure (I don't have an extended warranty).

I do not plan to keep my Genesis for more than 5 years so seems not a good deal for me. Would love to have a plan to cover the radar cruise control, security system, audio, nav, and proximity system for years 4/5 though.

Those seem like pretty important things to have covered. I'll probably pass as long as they aren't covered.

audio is covered.
if you read carefully, it says audio that is after market installed, is not covered, which means factory audio is covered.

with the coma after audio, I would interpret as the audio is one of the items not covered.

Right you are. So I would think the proximity sensors, radar control, and nav not covered?

Dealer says there is a 5/60,000 bumper to bumper warranty still left on the vehicle. So now, it seems like an extended warranty makes less sense. I'd be paying $1,600 to cover 40,000 miles. Am I thinking of this correctly?
