If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm curious if all these issues people are having are on older models or if these problem still exists on 2012 too. I don't see too many people complaining about mechanical stuff but seems to be a lot of issues on electronic stuff. Last time I've seen issues with electronics on a car was when my mother used to own Oldsmobile in the '80s. Delco radio that came in it would change station when ever you hit a pot hole.

One of the reasons I did not trade my 2010 Genesis 4.6 for a 2012 Genesis 4.6 was because of the very same issues that carried over to the 2012.
I also left the Hyundai brand and returned to a Domestic brand, the end results is: I no longer have to worry about when my audio/nav will fail, I enjoy a nice quiet ride over all road surfaces, tilt wheel is no longer and issue, no wrinkle in drivers seat, do not have to pamper the car to avoid cold start engine shake and no more popping noise coming from body of the car. The map update will also not be as complicated. I have no problems with a domestic brand as I did not purchase the Genesis because I had a problem with Domestic brands, I liked the car. I still think the Genesis is a nice car but I also say Hyundai had better wake up.

I have a 2012 3.8 Premium and my bluetooth does not hook up with my iphone about 30% of the time. If you try to use the phone too soon after setting nav system. Also, the ipod will stop working when transitioning between other functions and the music. The rear camera is also painfully slow in coming on an off. Things work better in my wife's Lexus so I know it is a system issue.

Why isn't Hyundai taking more aggressive approach to fix these? Having these issues persist over multiple model years is very bad image for the car which will hurt their bottom line. I wonder if there is major design flaw that can only be addressed with complete redesign which means these could get fixed in MY2014. I was hesitating on purchase due to it being RWD and where I live but having electronic issues like these could take some fun out of owning this no matter where you live. I hope Hyundai addresses these completely very soon since I really would like to buy this in the near future.

That's a very good question. I've had a couple of maddening electronics problems that were stonewalled by Hyundai. The dealer was clueless. I eventually got them fixed but with far more of my time and effort than was necessary or appropriate. Hyundai needs to realize that the type of person who buys a Genesis (or Equus) will not tolerate being jerked around and will vote with their wallets.

For every person complaining about an electrical problem, there are probably many people without any problem, like myself.
If you look at aggregate surveys like consumer reports, you'll find that Hyundai is no worse than average.

I hope Hyundai will address all of these soon since I'd hate to be the one who owned one of the car with these issues. I guess if you are lucky guy you could rely on luck to pick a good one but I'm not sure if I would count on my luck alone.

Genesis is the only car I'm thinking of buying to replace my TL so I'd like to believe that if I did have similar issues after purchase Hyundai will know how to and get it repaired to my satisfaction.

Has anyone who have continually had these issues thought about using the lemon law to have Hyundai buy back the car?

Ditto. Had all these problems -see below.

Only problem listed above I did NOT have was the cold start engine shake, but it DID have a lot of engine "lifter" noise when cold.

One additional problem I DID have was the seat not moving back when ignition shut off, (seat stuck in position) only in cold weather or when sensor was cold. By the time you get to dealer, the seat and/or sensor warms up and seat starts working again.

I am currently experiencing reboots and system hangs of the Nav system. I hear what sounds like an electrical spike and then the system reboots. 11k miles less 11 months old.

I just picked up the 2012 genesis R-spec and I noticed there is an intermittent problem with the speakers in the rear passenger door. They seem to go on and off. I have an appointment at the dealer and hopefully it will be rectified. Didn't have any issues with my 2009 genesis 3.8.

My audio system "took a break" twice now since owning the 2012 3.8 for the past 6 months. The system has not occured since and I'm corssing my fingers that the issue is over

same here...just happened for the first time today. Not psyched and now a bit worried about the future.

Modern electronics are so complicated I doubt any of the modern cars are perfect.

After a month I haven't seen any electronic issues, crosses fingers, but I also didn't get the tech package(due to some reservations about the Nav/Tech/etc in the tech package and about 2-3k in savings)

The touchscreen nav system seems a couple of years newer then the tech package nav system, and imo it is much better/more modern then the tech package one. I think it's the same system in the new Azera.

I too sense that the touch screen Nav is newer and more robust than the DIS in the tech package. The audio quit twice early into my vehicle. The audio returned after an hour break and the problem not reoccured. I also had a clogged injector that caused a low speed shake and then a flashing check engine light. The injector was changed and the problem disappeared ( I was surprised that an injector could plug on a new engine...but the service writer said that a Hyundai engineer recommended the service and the problem was corrected. Funny thing is that there was no paperwork for what was serviced. They just brought the car and reported it fixed!)

This is the second Hyundai for me. I owned the 2010 3.8 premium prior to my 2012 3.8 tech. I thought the 2010's ride was just too firm and even so after switching to a soft touring tire. I bought the 2012 because Hyundai improved the ride. At this point I still really enjoy this car and the few "quirks" are really small compared to my enjoyment with the vehicle.

2011 4.6 is now one year old and just passed 12k miles. Not one single problem and I drive this car hard. I love it and will get another one if the next generation is as nice. I don't understand the complaints. And to the guy that sold his and bought domestic... Why are you still on this message board? Go somewhere else. With the exception of maybe a Cadillac, I will never buy a domestic car again. After awful cars that fell apart (1 GM, 1 Dodge and 1 Ford) and great " foreign" cars ( 1 Mitsubishi, 3 Toyotas, and the Genesis) that were trouble free I have all I need to know.

I think if I got the tech package I would have gotten a r-spec. But I'm still trying to be economical. As far as the tech package, I'm sure it's bound to be more unreliable then the premium, but with electronics, usually if it work a few years, it'll work for a long time.

I work in a high tech field, but I tend to get enjoyment from low tech stuff(due to my experience in the high tech field, heh).

I wish i could get a Genesis will just the best leather/trim/etc, radio, wheel and automatic mirrors. I'm using the touchscreen NAV more then I thought i would so that's nice. How do you compare the tech package leather vs the premium package leather, I have no complaints with the premium(it's kinda of sweet in saddle) but I thought the tech was softer although I was petty sure it was going to sag very quickly. It's still the one feature I absolutely wish I had on my car.

I just happen to be monitoring this forum when I came across your post. My first question to you is , how well do you read?
My reply to this thread was on Nov. 11, 2011 and as one who had owned the car I was responding to the question raised in the thread. The problems that I pointed out with my car are no secret as some others have reported and are still reporting the same problems. I am amazed by people who say they have had no problems with their car ,needs to attack those who have.
I did not sell my car, I traded it as under the circumstance after Hyundai stated to me they had no fix for the audio/nav failure in my car, the car no longer met my needs. In answer to this thread I stated the problems not only in my car but how the problems were showing up in some of the 2012's. I answered the question truthfully and with out bias.
I closed my post by stating that despite the problems I had with my car I believed the Genesis is a nice car. As I stated my last post was Nov. 11, 2011 and it is only because of your post that I am posting back. This and all forums are open to anyone who wants to participate regardless of ownership or not and weather you have had problems or not.The person who runs this forum also runs a forum for a domestic brand so do you have any questions that you would like to ask him?
For personal reason every now and than I still monitor this forum as I would like to know if and how any of the problems that I stated have been resolved. I hope I have answered your question and I hope the next time you will do your home work before you smart off to someone else.

Hey MHT hang around and continue to voice your opinion. I like hearing from past owners comparring the Genesis to their present cars. For most of us the Genesis isn't the last car we will buy and all relevant info is a good thing.

Whatever. I wasn't trying to start a pissing match and I never insulted you personally like you just did to me. So all of your opinions now mean nothing to me.
