  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Smart Cruise control

All,

From some of the replies, it seems as though many of us have never used cruise control. "do you want to run into the car in front?" No, I dont want to run into the car in front AND I never have in 30+ years of driving and using normal cruise control. You keep an eye on the front sides and rear. You go around or tap your brakes and slow down. The key is YOU control it!

I spoke with engineers at the Hyundai plant in Montgomery. He said that there is no way to disable the smart portion. As we were ending our talk he said that he didn't like the comouter adjusted mileage either.

Dude, why fight technology?.......People 25 years ago made similar arguments against regular cruise control.

.It's a great feature, get used to it!

IMO, cruise control and sunroofs are the two most useless extra-cost items the auto industry forces us to buy whether we want them or not.

I will add 3D TV to the list. The thing I like about smart cruise control is that I tend to follow too close to the car in front. I just crank up the speed on my cruise control and let the traffic on my morning commute dictate the speed. The key is that I follow at a respectful distance now even though I am going 20 mph below my selected speed.

The moonroof is the easiest window to flick a booger out of the vehicle, so I'd disagree with your statement. I want the booger up and out!:D

Didn't "they" say windshield wipers were a hazard when they were first introduced? That back and forth motion was certain to distract the driver.

For those that poo poo the idea of cruise control I hope you never see how a commercial aircraft is flown 99% of the time.

... and landed from what I understand. I described the SCC to a pilot friend and he said the same thing ... "Cool. That sounds like my airplane."

They have even done away with the buggy whip socket. Hard to believe...

My wife and I saw a Sony 3D TV on display at our local best buy. A football game was on, and the players looked like cardboard cutouts moving against a two-dimensional background. Definitely not ready for prime time.

I was driving south from Wisconsin to Illinois last week with SCC on in light rain. Temperature was dropping, and rain starting turning to snow. Soon thereafter, my car started slowing drastically. No one was in front of me, but I realized the snowflakes had become so large and dense, the SCC was reacting to them.

Anyway, here's my take on SCC after 2 years use: When I bought the car, I thought I would want to take the S off and just have CC. But now I'm a fan.

Cruise control is one of the biggest improvements in the last 30 years. It's kept me from getting lots of speeding tickets and allows me to concentrate on other things than my speedometer and gas pedal.

Guys/Gals,

NO ONE HERE IS SAYING THAT YOU SHOULD RUN INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU!

The complaint is that normal cruise control has been around for 40 years and I HAVE NEVER heard of an accident whereby someone RAN into the car in front of them!

If the logic that many of you are using were to be realistic, then you wouldnt need an accelerator pedal nor brake pedal! Turn the car on and set the SMART cruise control and drive.

Enough of the sarcastic responses please.

Many of us, including an engineer at Hyundai in Montgomery, Al, DO NOT need the car to slow us down. Maintaining a steady speed is the object and purpose of cruise control. We simply want it to act like 99% of the other vehicles cruise controls on the road!

I am with you. Even on the lowest setting the cruise control nanny slows the car before it should or I would. There should be a fourth setting that just disengages it. I find that I don't even use it now.

Can someone tell me how to change the distance at which the smart cruise control applies the brakes. I want it set to the least restrictive setting but dont know how to change it and am currently in the car...prob should stop typing while I drive too...but work is work!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!:D:D

Tap the button on the right side of the steering wheel until there are 3 boxes displayed between the two cars.

From what I've read, this concept is only the beginning of what's being developed...
MB now has a crash prevention feature, which takes control of the car, if your going to rear end the car in front, thereby preventing a collision ...
eventually, they say there will be computer controls, while driving in Bumper to Bumper traffic....it will actually keep cars closer to each other, taking up all the space/distance between cars, thereby reducing the space needed between cars, and if effect increase the traffic flows...its all good to me...

A Volvo, I think that it was an S80 already had the auto breaking rear end crash prevention when I was at the Cleveland auto show last week. Pretty cool feature.

SCC auto canceled in my genesis 2012 4.6L with yellow exclamation mark and I cannot set it on again unless i restart my vehicle completely.
How can i switch it to normal cruise control? what should i do?
