In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi all,

Recently purchased a 2012 3.8L Genesis Sedan for my wife, and she has quickly fallen in love with the car. We have enjoyed going through these forums too - there is a lot of great information here.

One question I hadn't seen regards the Bluetooth phone connection. Whenever she is in her car and calls me, I can hear a full echo of my voice in on my end. It's a minor problem, but is sure is damn annoying.

I have a Bluetooth sync in my car also, and we have never experienced that problem. Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks,
AP

It happens to me sometimes. It has to to with the volume settings on the phone in the car and the volume setting on the car's system. Try turning the volumes down a bit.

Some phones "forget" to turn off their internal microphones when connected via Bluetooth; on others this is a "settings" option. So perhaps her phone's microphone is picking up the car/Bluetooth speakers of what you're saying, transmitting it back to you.

Bluetooth seems to be one of the worst designed and/or implemented specs out there. I haven't seen so many compatibility issues for a so-called "standard" in decades.

A quick test: pair her phone to your car, and your phone to her car and repeat the test. If the reverb/echo swaps now (following the phones) blame one of the phones. If you still hear your own voice, when in your car and she calls from her car using your phone... it's a car issue. I hope that makes sense.

I have same issue- well the people I call have the echo issue. I will try turning volume down or putting my iphone in the cubby so its mic wont pic up & see if it helps

Hi all,

Just wanted to give an update - unfortunately we are still having this problem.

We have updated the software on my wife's phone, which did not fix it. Her phone pairs perfectly with my car, no echo. My phone, when paired with her car, also has the echo. Adjusting the volume on the car and on the phone does not take care of the problem.

We took it into the dealership, where they were able to confirm the echo. They ordered in a new radio unit and replaced it. After testing that, nothing was improved. They were able to test a Droid phone on Verizon that they said did not show the echo at all. Because of this, they are saying it is our phone/carrier.

The Hyundai website has a compatibility check that shows no issues with the Genesis and iPhone 4/AT&T. My wife basically works out of her car, so this is a huge problem for us. Has anyone else been seeing this? Any other ideas to get this fixed?

Thanks for the input!

I hear your pain brother.

I have had the same problem. One dealer, Cerritos, flatly ignores the problem even though they can bill money from Hyundai for repairing the bluetooth, since it is covered by warranty.

Garden grove Hyundai has tried to fix it and replaced the mic and the head unit. So far, this just means I have to scream in order for the other people to hear me.

I am going to try to get it fixed again. If Hyundai USA and their dealers continue to refuse to fix it, I'm going to keep requesting warranty repairs. Hopefully, they realize it would be easier just to fix the problem than incur a lot of warranty costs and potential lemo law problems.

Same problem in both my 2009 and 2010Genesis. We have VERIZON Phones not AT&T. ANYONE FOUND A SOLUTION YET?

i have the same issue with my old iphone 4 and iphone 5. Dunno about you guys, but for me whenever i initiate or answer a phone call with my iphone out i get echo probably 50% of the time. I always had a habit of taking my phone out and leaving it in the cup holder. However if i leave my phone in my pant pocket, never get the echo 100% of the time. Give it a try, leave your phone in your pocket and give it a try and see if you get echo still.

2012 RSpec and IPhone 4S, after adjusting phone and car volumes...no problems.

My phone is a EVO 4G LTE, rooted with MeanBean 0.5 custom ROM, no echo issues. Most of the time people can't even tell I am on BT in the car.

One of the biggest factors I have found that detract from, or enhance BT sound quality, as others have said, are volume adjustments.

Most newer phones will reduce volume to 75% when paired to BT. This is detrimental to BT sound quality. If anyone here is into audio reproduction, you know you want to run your input signal as "hot" as possible. Same applies to the in-car BT scenario.

My phone is at 100% BT volume, and the car system is set at 25 to 28 for calls.

My dealer says he is not heard the problem before and asked to bring cars. We will try and reduce volume on cell phones and report back.

Tried lowering volume but problem still there even with BT TO BT communication. It's gotten worse over the last year. Will bring to dealer now

Sounds like a bunch of folks in this thread have iPhones. I had a 4 and now a 5 and haven't had any problems. My wife's 4S is also paired to the car, no issue with hers either. Ours are AT&T. I use the bluetooth usually once a day to call my wife on my way home.

We recently purchased a pre owned 2012 Genesis one year ago. It's my wife's car and there was never a problem with echo when she was using her old flip phone through Verizon. The echo problem appeared when we recently switched carriers to T-Mobile and upgraded to a new Samsung Galaxy 4S. I don't know if it is the phone the carrier or the car, but the echo is terrible. I can't even carry a conversation. She has turned down the volume on both the phone and in the car and wrapped the phone in her coat and the echo remains. It seems turning down the phones volume helps slightly but does not eliminate the echo. Not sure what to do and it sounds like the dealers don't either.

Sorry you guys are having these issues. I used my Samsung Galaxy S4 with my 2012 premium/tech and now my new 2015 Ultimate. No echo issue on either of those cars. My carrier is ATT. I have a hunch the carrier makes a difference. I would suggest sharing the name of your phone company in this thread for comparison purposes.
Don't forget that things can change after an update, too.

Good luck. I hope a solution is found.

I have a Nexus 5 on T-Mobile on a 2012 3.8 Tech, and no problems with echo.

Have you tried fully uninstalling the phone(s) and then reinstalling? A full uninstallation, in other words starting totally from scratch, has fixed a number of issues with Bluetooth for me over the past couple of years. Of course, YMMV. Good luck. :)

Plug your phone up to the auxiliary cord and the echo goes away

Hook your phone directly to the auxiliary cord to eliminates the echo
