If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I dont remember seeing the option for the shiny wood trim. Is that the only wood you can get on the V6?

no if i remember correctly it mostly goes by the color of the leather and interior.
when you go to the website, it gives you the different options when you design your own genesis.

there only certain trims with certain interior colors so you cant really design your own.

That shiny wood on front of dash is not real wood, but wood grain plastic (what they call Glossy wood hydrographic) on the Base Trim model shown in the pick above. Same sort of stuff that has been on all Base Trim Genesis models since 2009. The V6 Ultimate Package and all V8's get real wood with matte finish. Not sure about V6 Signature and Tech Packages, but it looks like they get the same plastic wood as Base Trim in 2015.

Unfortunately it seems you need to get the ultimate package (fully loaded) or else they give you plasti-wood. :(

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Yes, it was a very bad move for Hyundai to actually increase the number of cars sold with the shiny, glaring, plastic wood dashes. Many current owners love the posh leather dash material. What was Hyundai thinking?! A simple poll of leather dash owners should have told Hyundai that this was a very important feature to preserve for the '15s.

Not a huge fan of the plasti-wood dash on my 12 premium. I would have preferred the leather.

Unlike Canada, the plasti-wood was only on the Base Trim level in USA for 2009-2014, and USA Premium Package (and Tech Package) had the leather insert. There were actually some Canadian members of this forum that had the leather on their Tech Package and wanted to know how to swap it out with the plasti-wood (this was several years ago).

I have the leather in my 2010' and it is a base model in USA.

We are talking about the front of the dash, not the seats.

Thanks for posting Ron.

The wing-badge on the key fob is KICKASS!

:D

Yes it is. Which they were the same as the old smart key so I can get a case

Ive seen the shiny wood dash. Its not as shiny previous MY. Its actually not really that bad looking.

I agree. It was a distinctive, classy touch. The matte wood I saw at the car show was disappointing. Maybe it's cost or they did do surveys and found the wood to be preferred. It was a major interior design decision that sure is surprising.

A possibility (slim) may be that the new dash is very much like the new one in the 2014 Equus which uses wood and they tried to replicate that look but at lower cost with plastic wood.

I drove a Ultimate AWD today. It is simply magnificent. It solves all of the annoying little niggles of my 2012. Plus, it is a massive leap forward. This competes on even ground with any European car out there. The Head-up display is the best I have seen on any car. Period. The A/V tech is easy to use and does tons. The ride is excellent. The seats are way upgraded.

Grand Slam.

There were surveys on Hyundai Think Tank about high gloss wood vs matte wood. I recommended matte (real) wood, because some glossy wood looks too much like plastic and is too reflective IMO.

But looking at the pics of the Ultimate they may have overdone the matte look. But I am personally unlikely to get an Ultimate, so not a major concern to me. I like a the look of low-gloss polyurethane, which is a protective layer over wood, but not too shiny.

Don't know if you have had the chance to see one yet but that plastiwood is very glossy IMO.

It's definitely a big leap forward for the Genesis and I agree that the AWD is fun and didn't seem to lack any get up and go. I also think the technology is user friendly and the space inside is pretty well thought out.

There are a few things I can see them changing within a year or two as customers complain/make comments. The charging jacks and audio ports being where the ashtray use to be is ok but they didn't leave a way for the cords to get out when that door is closed nor did they give you a big enough space for the size of today's smartphones. I liked the two tier armrest from the previous model and was hoping they would do something similar inside of this one plus add another jack so you can have a tablet etc. in there charging. The buttons for your trunk and gas cap really need to be moved back to the door somewhere, them being right next to the LKA and other safety features in your car isn't a good idea.

I am also guessing that it scratches very easily, like the 2009-2014 plasti-wood.
