  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2009 Genesis Steering Wheel Tilt Has Failed

Mark_888 - I'm astounded at your grasp of Math! I see no reason for You to either comment or complain about any or the amount of Postings by Vermillion3 or anybody else for that matter.. Don't like the Book! Don't read it"""
You are NOT our Daddy!
A ? -> Do you or have you trained ever trained Service Writers? -> You sure have the right attitude..
As usual you are confused. He was complaining about the number of my posts. I never complained about the number of his.

Put it down to:- a mixture of Vikadin & Aggro with my G"..
I'm off to the little padded rest room...

My 2009 Genesis has 98,000 miles and unfortunately, the tilt function has stopped working on my steering wheel (the telescoping does still work).

Does anyone have any experience with this failure or have any information about the possibility/difficulty of repairing this myself?

2009 steering wheel and seats were plagued by early failures of the limit switches in the actuators. When the "down" limit switch fails, the wheel gets stuck "up" etc.

I had a similar problem at <40k miles, so it was covered by the 5/60 bumper-bumper warranty. Dealer techs can replace them in an hour or so. I have no idea if the replacement can be done at home (i.e. without computer calibration, etc.), but you can ask the tech or the parts counter clerk at your local dealer.

On my way to the dealer for the fourth time tomorrow for the tilt issue. :(

Haven't decided if I want to pursue the lemon law in this case since my lease is up in August.

Hey any update to this? I have the same exact problem. tilted up, won't go down, feels like i'm driving a bus

Any zombie updates after 3+ years? Sure: Nothing has changed. The 2009's and 2010's had chronic limit switch failures in the tilt-steering and driver's seat. Had them replaced twice in my '09, both times under warranty 3 years ago.

If you own a 2009 tech and they haven't failed, they will. If you have a 2009 tech and they have failed, then have your dealer make sure they don't have the 8 year old replacement parts still on their shelf, and that HMA doesn't send them 8 year old parts. Get parts at least made in 2010 or 2011...

Good luck.

Yet another reason to buy a good, reasonably priced, extended warranty.

Look at at TSB 13-BE-002. NEW PART DOES AWAY WITH THE LIMIT SWITCHES AND YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF AT HOME.

Can anyone confirm if these were able to do this at home? The process seems reasonably easy, but still requires some skills, and has a risk. More importantly, if anyone has had this repair done...whether by yourself, or at a service center...has it held?

I have a similar issue with a 2009, and could use the help

Thanks

OK. Update on how the 2009 Steering Tilt/Telescoping issue was resolved.

Based on the advice from this forum (thank you!), I took a risk and bought this module on EBay (it was 15% off sale at the time; so got it for less than $60 buck.
OEM 08-14 Hyundai Genesis 954503M151 Tilt and Telescoping Module Assembly for sale online | eBay

Found a local mechanic shop in San Jose, CA, who has done Genesis repairs before; and he charged me $235 to install it using the TSB writeup (I know, it is steep in hindsight; he charged me 1.5 Hrs of labor at $149/hr, plus tax). That fixed the problem, and the steering wheel works just as well as it does on my 2015. When i had called the dealer service center, they wanted $200 for labor, but would install only the part that they get from their parts dept for $245 or so.

If anyone else has this issue, hope this helps. Thanks

I can confirm that the 9450-3m150 control unit works as well when you follow the TSB. I bought mine on Ebay for $56

Although the reset procedure in the TSB didn't work with this module so I used the same sequence holding 20+ seconds in each direction and that worked.

The steering module itself is easy to reach but one of the retaining bolts is difficult to get to. You may have to unbolt another module and shift it out of the way. Easy access to the limiting switches as well.

Pretty easy DIY job if you're mechanically inclined.
