  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2010/11 4.6 as daily driver to go 200k mi?

Driver side keyless door handle was the first to go, the back up camera fails randomly, the parking assist beeps randomly, the day/night sensor for the auto dimmer and lights goes off randomly, the auto wipers go off randomly, the cruise control shuts off randomly, the stereo shuts off randomly and then comes back on at half volume until you turn the car off and back on, the navigation restarts randomly, the voice commands only work when they want to (usually fails when Im trying to show it off LOL)

Did you ever check all the ground points for good connections, especially in the trunk?

136K on my '09 3.8 and I bet the heck out of it. Transmission/Engine are superb (knock on wood) and a couple electronic NAVissues (restarts) and a front wheel bearking that is asking for replacement- rock solid.

Own a 2013 3.8 tech model. Been nothing but a beauty to drive and own! Probably the most underrated luxury vehicle that can actually compete with merc, bmw etc. I’ve had no issues with my car and it’s currently at 110k. All systems work great! And let’s not forget the power these cars have

genesis cap. I did sort of say what I was coming from. a ford and 2 lincolns that all made 200k+ miles. I realize that the car is only 5 yrs old, but I drive 100k in that time, which is not an unusual amount of miles.
I also realize that in forums there are often a lot of folks that complain about the car --as well as those that almost break their arms patting themselves on the back for their wise purchase.. The reader of the posts job is to sift through and figure out what the reality is --if possible.
I appreciate the positive responses, and probably will buy one. It seems like a lot of bang for the buck. I just hope that it stays that way and has reliability closer to Lexus than Audi .
My 2010 4.6 has 130k. Don't count on it being a Lexus or Audi. It is fine for the cost however. I have had some quality problems after 60k but nothing to stop me from keeping car. Wheel paint is coming off even though I don't use any chemical wheel cleaner. car has lived outside for the last 3 years, clear coat paint is starting to peal. was garage kept prior. Parking assist sensors randomly come on. 6 speed trans has downshift weirdness like the newer 8 speed I have been reading about. Still, for daily driver at the price, is a good car. OH, from the day I got it, the road noise in annoying. Many can not hear it, so you may not. it is a low steady rumble under the tire noise. tire noise in any car is ok but not that steady rumble. I like all the bells and whistles. When new they were $20k less than other comparable car. Time is telling. No engine problems so far.

Tire noise is tires. What rubber do you run? Tires do not normally "rumble" unless they're very stiff/hard low-profile run-flat types at very low speeds (<20mph) on smooth surfaces. That doesn't sound like what you describe w/ your factory wheels. If you're getting a low-frequency vibration (rumble as you call it) at normal driving speeds above 20mph, check the drive shaft & U-joints.

I have the factory 18" alloy wheels, (panted which is pealing). Car had new 2010 factory Dunlap when I purchased in 2012. Took it back to dealer and they put Factory 2012 michlan as they said they would be quieter. no help, I now have new 235/50/18 Michelin premier LTX. same problem. steady noise over 20 mph. On rough roads louder, very smooth road much quieter. It is tire related but only with this car. I have 5 cars, this is the only one with this problem. I believe it has to do with the wheels or bearings although both of my mechanics say the bearings are fine. Only one lead mechanic at one of the dealers admitted he also could hear it and had other customers with the same complaint. No solution. There is much discussion about this on the old forum.

I have some dealership installed generic tires on my 2011 4.6 and the roads I drive on are the lovely sealcoat instead of asphalt. The road noise is considerably lower than in my wife's 2017 Toyota Highlander and my previous 1996 Camry.

I agree the OEM dunlaps were horrible tires in nearly every category: noise, treadlife, grip, ride, etc. Tramlining was horrible with those monstrosities.

Why did you go with a SUV tire on a sedan? Lots of potholes where you are? I think that's your problem: big stiff thick tread to support a heavy SUV with off-roading capability will make a LOT more treadblock-slap road noise. Fine if you want the durability of a truck tire, but not the best answer if comfort/quiet is priority, IMO.

The Premier LTX is top rated at tire rack in it's class, so it's got that much going for it. But for $200/each there are plenty of other tires out there better suited for luxo-barge sedan use. If comfort/quiet is the priority: then something like the new Bridgestone Quiettrack (previously Turanza Serenity Plus?) may be worth a try.

I have pilot super sports (now aka pilot sport 4s) on my 4.6 and they're an excellent tire for what I want most: wet and dry grip performance. In rainy Florida as a daily driver, my windows are up with AC and radio on most of the time. I have another car when I want to have wind-in-the-hair fun... and tire noise is not a worry in that car.

I have an 09 Tech 4.6 with 194k miles. I have all their service records (my uncle owned the car since new) and it has had a couple minor leaks, replaced the alternator, steering column tilt control module, z01 brake like diode, all 4 struts, and all 4 upper front control arms and a couple of the lower front suspension bushings.

maintenance done included oil changes using 5/20 or 5/30 semi-synthetic oil from the dealer every 3k miles, a coolant flush around 100 and 180k miles, spark plugs at 110k miles, random air filters, brakes, tires etc etc. No transmission flushes. Brake fluid flushed under a recall in 2014 and flushed by myself around 190k miles.

Car runs like a top and everything but the drivers heated/cooled function properly. The HID lights are getting foggy but still light up the road better than most halogen lamps out there. The parking sensors sometimes go off randomly but I live with it.

Frankly, for the price of a used genesis it’s hard to beat.

That being said, one of the few luxury large cars I would consider over it would be the Lexus ls460 without the problematic air suspension.

To fix the plastic headlamp lens getting foggy get some Mother’s mag and aluminum polish and a variable speed buffer. There’s plenty of videos showing how to do it and it’s not hard. Unless they’re really bad I wouldn’t go the route of using sandpaper on them.

I’ll have to look that up and give it a try. I’ve done the sand paper and polish route on other cars and while they look great at first, they quickly become even more hazy than before.
Thanks!

They fog up because the UV protective coating on the headlights wears out over time and starts damaging the plastic. Sanding the lights gets rid of the oxidation but you need to put a protective coating of some sort to prevent the oxidation from returning, ideally a clear coat designed for plastic.

You can use other things which don't require as much skill or equipment as a clearcoat. Aerospace 303 is a really good UV protectant and I believe Lithium Trim Serum is as well. Plexus makes a cleaner and polish spray which I've heard good things about, but I haven't tried it yet. You should only do the sandpaper method if the oxidation is really bad.

You absolutely can use other products to protect them but clear coat doesn't wear off easily like those other products. Ideally you would clear them and use a UV protectant on top periodically.

Of course clear coat lasts longer, but it also turns yellow. Personally I don’t mind having to apply something every three months or so while avoiding the requirement of sanding to get rid of the yellowing. To each their own.
