  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Good! Hopefully their next step will be to turn the R-Spec into a model worthy of the label "R-Spec". Don't get me wrong, the '12 R-Spec is a great car and by far the nicest car I've owned. I love it and I knew what it was before purchasing it.

The current R-Spec is basically a $2K option to get an awesome engine and handsome (IMO) wheels. But after upgrading the standard V8, the current R-Spec would basically be a $2K wheel package. To maintain product differentiation they should bump up the price of the R-Spec by $5K or so and use that to pay for shift paddles, a fatter steering wheel, sport exhaust, driver-selectable ride settings, and a more aggressively bolstered driver seat. I.e. make it a true sport sedan.

+1 hear hear!!

Don't get me wrong - I am OVERJOYED with my car. However, with the options that Acoga lists I feel that it could be an M5 competitor (OK - so perhaps another 5K for a turbo/supercharger to get similar horsepower). In particular, I think that the driver-selectable settings to adjust ride and shift points would be spectacular. I understand that the transmission computer learns your driving style. But the problem in my mind is that I change my style all the time and the computer is not smart enough to know that. It takes my spirited driving and averages it with my freeway cruising as well as my wife's driving style and just ends up with a mediocre middle program. With a driver selectable switch I could simply say to the Gene - "Lets getty up and go girl" and we would both be happy!

Cheers,
Newman

In Canada the 5.0 litre is now the only V8 available for the Genesis and my dealer told me it was being installed in the Equus for the 2012 model year. I agree the R-Spec needs to be more Sport Sedan oriented than the current model.

You guys are forgetting the most important aspect of owning an R-Spec that truly commands the $2k upgrade . . . the R-Spec floor mats.

Pretty well know that the 4.6L engine is going to be discontinued in future versions.

From what I understand from the article is that they are 'asumming' that Hyundai will make non R-spec 5.0 v8. There is no actual source from Hyundai that they will do it.
Canada currently has R-spec as sole v8 and the rest being v6. Also there is no reason for Hyundai to make non R-spec v8 that may conflict 5.0 Equus coming this year. I think it is safe to say they might want to distinguish between Genesis and Equus a little bit(sporty sedan vs ultra luxury sedan?). From this we can better make an assumption, based on the fact that HMA follows canada lineup, that R-spec may be the sole v8 line up in Genesis trim and maybe they will increase the production (instead of this 1200 limited prod BS this year)

My 5.0 R-Spec arrived at the dealer on saturday. Unfortunately it has all the shipping crap still attached to it but I was able to see those beautiful rims. I was able to order the Twilight Blue interior (I'm from the Toronto area). It was supposed to come with the black interior but I lucked out when I saw the cashmere interior ! It definitely goes better with the blue. An interesting tidbit related to this post is that it had "Genesis 5.0" on the back without the "R-Spec" logo. Will ask about this on tuesday when I take delivery of it.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
R Specs only come in three colors. Black, silver and titanium. If your car comes in blue without the R Spec badge then you did not get an R Spec. Not sure what Canada is getting.

In Canada, the GENESIS 5.0 R-Spec comes in 5 exterior colors (or colours in Canada):

  • Titanium Grey Metallic
  • Twilight Blue Pearl
  • Phantom Black
  • White Satin Pearl
  • Platinum Metallic

These decisions are made by the distributor/importer (Hyundai Auto Canada, Hyundai Motor America [US], etc) in conjunction with the manufacturer Hyundai Motors Company (Korea).

Let us know about the missing R spec badge. This is kind of off topic but this might mean something.

Yea, I wonder if Hyundai Canada decided at the last minute to keep the 5.0 GDI but pass on the R-Spec suspension.

I picked up my 5.0 "R-Spec" last night. The badge was affixed to the car by the dealer. I will be posting a comparative '12 5.0 R-Spec vs. my '09 4.6 after I get a chance to test them side by side (of course after the engine has a few km's on it first). The 5.0 is a fantastic car. More details to come...
