  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 Genesis Sedan R Spec engine problems

I have an R Spec that has just started giving me a very similar-sounding problem as OP. I haven't yet taken it into the dealer, so no diagnosis yet. Under moderate load at around 2000 RPM it's a sound that is most like knocking but it's definitely more mechanical -- it's not the preignition that is normally referred to as knock.

I have a 2011 3.8 w/40k miles. It is currently in the dealer to replace the short block under warranty (reconditioned heads). I never had any problems w/engine beyond the check engine light constantly coming on then off, etc over the last 18 mos. Dealer has been great, always got a loaner, etc. However I'm wondering if I should trade the car now? My thought is that it won't be the same-kinda like when your car gets hit-it's never exactly the same when you get it back from the body shop. Appreciate everyone's thoughts. thanks

Assuming the shop can install the new short block correctly you should not have any reason to sell the car. The short block is essentially a new engine. Unless you have had problems with the accessories on the engine you should be good to go for a lot more miles.

I would ask though, what is the reason for the short block replacement? Sometimes a catastrophic engine failure can affect other sub-systems and if they are not replaced or repaired trouble can repeat.
