If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 spotted on the lots!

What is a better way to go, 2012 3.8 with tech/premium package or 2011 4.6? I am ready to buy and am thinking of waiting until the 12's show up in Dallas.

I think 3.8 is a better deal since you save $$$, better fuel economy, and still enough power to blow things away.

Redjet20 wait and test drive the '12s. It may be that you are perfectly OK with the previous suspension and if so you could save a bundle on the cost of a new car. Try the 2011 and the 2012. When you test drive make sure to go over the rough stuff! Drive over man hole covers, speed bumps, lane change warnings and just anything that requires the suspension to absord a change. I'm an owner of the 2010 version and I can tell you that the suspension in my car is a deal breaker. I love most everything but the suspension. I think that my experience is so common and the owners so dissatisfied that Hyundai changed the suspension for the 2012. Take a look at the suspension threads on this forum to get an idea of what I'm talking about and if that isn't enough take a look at the customer reviews at Conusmer Reports' website.

IMHO the 2012 3.8 tech/premium is what I'd go for, unless you have reservations about the new 8 speed transmission.
Apart from that, the 3.8 has all the power you'd need for all normal driving situations and better gas milage.
If you live near an 'autobahn' then perhaps the V8 would be a better choice. :)
Of course V8 owners may say otherwise and I don't blame them. That's why there's more models than ever, each has it's own niche.

I like that the 12's have touch screen nav and folding side mirrors as well. The new 8 transmission and the increased horsepower on the 3.8 is pretty compelling. I am leaning toward the 2012 3.8 and plan to drive one this week to compare to the 2011 4.6

Just bought the '12 3.8 w premium.
My service writer at the dealer(best I have ever had anywhere) said he drove the '12 Genesis 3.8 when they arrived and that it feels a lot like the 2011 4.6, gearing being changed and horsepower up by over 40. Eitehr way you can get the best deal, you won't be disappointed!

Sounds encouraging. If you don't mind saying, what was the drive out price you got on the 2012 3.8?

saw tons of 2012 today on the lot. Hmm. but they still won't discount the 2011(not even 2010!) wtf ?

Discounting??? As I stated earlier I purchase a 2012 Genesis 3.8 base model at $29,875.00 plus tax and title. In addition I got .9 percent financing for 48 months and free oil changes for the life of the vehicle.

That said others dealerships in the area were stuck on selling at MSRP and one was $1,000 over invoice. the leftover 2011's could be had for $28,700. Give them a few weeks and when their inventory builds up they will lower their price. Keep in mind that over the next few months other manufacturers will be bringing out their 2012's which will lower the 2011's they have in stock and put pressure on Hyundai dealerships to compete.

My dealer just received three 2012 V6. Two appear to be the base model and one looks like it may have the premium package, I may go for a test drive today.

RedJet, the msrp on my 2012 was like 39850, plus dealer did his (tint/nitrogen/vin etching/badges/paint sealant) pack which bumped the starting point by $1700. We first argued about the merits of the pack, and got it down to $500 that I would go for. Then started at invoice, which was from zag.com/TruCar, like $37k and change. Add the $500, then deduct the $1500 owner rebate and my trade.
We went with a lease, and the money factor was 4%.

I took a few times and strategy to get them off msrp. It was no-way that they would start at invoice, so I said I would just do the Amex process (that they are a participating dealer in, and they have to honor the prices shown on the website. It also would have gotten my info to 2 other dealers, so they would have to compete.) I also said I would wait a few months until they had 7-8 units on the lot, maybe they would be more "flexible" then. Ultimately got what I thought was a good deal, since mine was only the 2nd 2012 Genesis they delivered.

Spent some time behind the wheel this weekend, it sure is nice. Only complaint is the tire noise, but hey crank up the tunes!

Comparing Circle pricing for the 2011 3.8 with Tech/Prem with the 2012 3.8 with Tech/Prem, it will cost you an extra $1,800 to get a 2012! So much for those that worried you'd be paying 4-5K more for a 2012!

comparing apples to oranges. wait until the 4.6's get to the lots and let's see what members are getting them for. for an '11 4.6, you can get bank of america for $38,612. that;s $5,300 off msrp, no haggling, in and out. they are advertising '12 4.6 at $42,707 do the math.

You were one of the ones I was referencing! (you were citing this along with anything else you could find to disparage). In Circle pricing for 2011 and 2012 is apples to apples. The 2012 4.6's will be around $1500 more than the 2012 3.8's. For the first 3-4 weeks it will likely be hard to get a 2012 4.6 for less than 40K (probably will be around 41K). After that, the price will drop just like it did with the 2011s. There will be a difference, but only because the 2011s will drop to less than 37K. It will be worth it perhaps to get a car without all of the suspension problems.

this makes me laugh. how about owning one before you have the right to jump on the "imaginary" suspension woes bandwagon. if hyundai thought the suspension was soooooooo bad they would be making such a big deal over the '12's upgrades. they're not. it's a subtle campaign to calm the people down that are convinced before ever owning one (see above post) about HOW BAD the suspension is in this car. more internet nonsense. the ride isn't going to suit everyone but it suits me and many others very well.

I have to weigh in here, finally. I almost can't believe all the noise over the suspension, at least post-2009. It's a firm ride, certainly not that of a land cruiser, but if that's what we wanted, most of us wouldn't have chosen this type of car in the first place.

That's rich. Imagine the marketing campaign "2012 - Finally a suspension that works, call your dealer for a test drive today!" That fact that they continue to modify the suspension speaks volumes. And, of course, they aren't going to highlight this fact. I haven't driven a 2012 yet, but I may be willing to pay a slight premium over a 2011 if the ride is better. The 8-speed transmission and the refresh of the body are just bonuses.

Hyundai has issued press releases stating the 2012 suspension has a more comfortable ride than 2011, but still handles well like before. This information has been supplied to the automotive press. There are a couple of reasons why they don't make a bigger deal about it to the public:

1) If someone doesn't know about past issues, why mention it?

2) Dealers still have a lot of 2011 inventory and don't want it mentioned. We went through this when 2010 suspension changes were announced on the Hyundai website, and then withdrawn a few days later after dealer uproar.

I personally upgraded my early 2009 suspension to 2010 specs and have no plans to upgrade again to 2012 even if mine is not perfect. But obviously, with some owners and with dealers, this is a highly emotional issue.

Why is it so hard for some people to acknowledge that some people have issues with the suspension on thier cars? No not all people will be satisfied with all aspects of a car, but dont flame some one for thinking there is a problem with the earlier suspensions. HMA has already figured that out and they are upgrading it thru out the model years.

I dont get it :(

One possibility is that not everyone on this forum who is connected to Hyundai or a dealerhsip identifies themselves as such. Lot's of 2011 inventory to move out.

Others are probably just afraid of messing with the resale value of their Genesis.

this is going to sound silly...but people who bought their cars in 2009 liked what they saw, including the suspension. Why is the problem re-surfacing now? If you don't like a car the way it is, don't buy it.

If you already bought it...who are you trying to blame?

silly arguments...obviously cars get improved as they age.
