From Carscoop this morning:

http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2012/08/2013-hyundai-genesis-sedan-drops-46l.html

It has been four years since Hyundai launched the Genesis luxury sedan onto the market and while it will take a little over a year for the Korean automaker to present the redesigned version at the end of 2013, the company has made some changes to the current model.
Most importantly, Hyundai has dropped the 385hp 4.6-liter V8 and the standard 5.0-liter V8 models from the U.S. range with the 2013 Genesis now being available exclusively with the base 333hp 3.8-liter V6 and the sported-up R-Spec model powered by a 5.0-liter V8 rated at 429hp.

Both engines are linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels with the R-Spec gaining a sportier setup.

For 2013, the Korean carmaker has added a new eight-inch Driver Information System (DIS) display with navigation and an enhanced multi-media controller to the options list for both the Genesis 3.8 technology package and 5.0 R-Spec models.

According to Hyundai, the new display integrates the same rotating dial with joystick-type function but features "a more intuitive user interface", enhanced voice-recognition commands and improved navigation screen layouts. The system utilizes a 64GB solid-state drive allowing users to store music, images and videos.

In addition, Hyundai now offers its latest Blue Link telematics system in three packages named "Assurance", "Essentials" and "Guidance".

Hyundai has not yet announced pricing for the 2013 Genesis sedan that is expected to go on sale this fall.

Oh sure, right after I purchased.... ;) Guess that is what guaranteed trade in value is for! :p

I sat on SEVERAL online chats with HMA executives and the question was asked about BlueLink - all those individuals confirmed that it would NOT be available until the refresh -- the same applied to all models, including Genesis.

Not only are the 13's getting a new screen, new nav features, better integration AND BlueLink... but they're also getting bluetooth compatibility.

Basically, that's everything folks have been complaining about on the current Nav system.

I guess the only "good" I get from this announcement is the fact that I wouldn't have bought a 2013 model ANYWAY, since the redesign is right around the corner...

I'm going to assume that those executives didn't know AT THE TIME that they would be making these changes. They probably decided at some point to heed the feedback they got on the current system's shortcomings. If that is not the case, SHAME ON YOU, HYUNDAI.

Official Announcement: http://hyundainews.com/us/en-us/Media/PressRelease.aspx?mediaid=37022&title=2013-hyundai-genesis-offers-new-ultimate-navigation-system-with-eight-inch-screen-and-64gb-drive

Key Take-Aways:

2013 Genesis Highlights

New optional eight-inch touchscreen display with navigation and an enhanced multi-media controller and Driver Information System (DIS) Hyundai Blue Link® telematics available with Ultimate Navigation package
  • A simple pop-up message now appears to help pair a phone and the voice-recognition software understands street addresses and cities, all in one sequential sentence. The route screen displays speed limits, details the next three navigation maneuvers, shows real highway signage and has junction views with lane guidance. Lane guidance outlines the lanes the driver needs to stay in when a highway splits. Junction view uses street and actual road signs images to match what the driver will see when arriving at the next maneuver. Integrated into the point of interest tool are Zagat® restaurant ratings, which help drivers to easily locate great places to eat. SiriusXM data services have also been enhanced, with Sports, Stocks and Weather information.
Genesis R-Spec is only offered in four sport-oriented exterior colors: Black Noir, Titanium Gray, Platinum Metallic, and, new for 2013, White Satin Pearl, each with Black leather interior and an all-black leather steering wheel to further differentiate the 5.0 R-Spec from the 3.8 model.

I think the success of the K9 in Korea had forced Hyundai to make changes earlier than they had wanted to the temelatics system.

A bit surprised that they decided to drop the 5.0, but I guess that means the vast majority of people purchasing the Tau 5.0 were opting for the R-Spec.

You're probably right... if you have the tech available, and you can integrate it with your current design, why NOT make it available to customers? The timing just seems odd, considering the redesign - unless of course... the redesign is a delayed? Who knows.

Tell you what... I would've gladly paid for a software update on the nav. But because they integrated BlueLink, I'm sure a lot of the hardware changed as well. Let's see what the redesign brings!

Thanks for the heads up OP...so correct me if I'm wrong, but that makes the 5.0 non R-spec a one yr model offering?

Definitely some stuff to consider when I go to purchase at the end of next year-- even more anxious to see what the '14 redesign (hopefully shown at a show in Q1 of '13) will yield. Yes, I am assuming the '14 and not '15 will be the model redesign.. However,if it isn't, I know I love the current model and it's definitely matured but not become dated, it's quite an elegant design.. thus why I'm here, lol.

WSP R-Spec would be a beautiful beast!

W/ the redesign of the Genesis sedan due next year, I'll bet Hyundai thought they could make due w/o any significant changes, but they were pretty shocked by the drop in Genesis and Equus sales in Korea due to the K9.

Since the new Equus is another year out than the new Genesis, the Equus should see a similar upgrade (if not a more comprehensive upgrade adding more of the tech items that's available on the K9 such as the blind spot warning system).

But I agree - they should have made the changes anyway since having an up-to-date telematics systems is more and more impt. to buyers (which a competitor, the new GS has).

Frankly, I would have liked to have seen this added for the Genesis' refresh, as well as a redone dash design (but the latter, esp., wasn't going to happen due to cost).

^ That is correct. Probably a very rare car now

Wow, this is great timing. I am ready to purchase now & actually requested quotes from multiple dealerships in my area this morning on a 2012 3.8 w/ Tech and Black exterior w/ Saddle interior.

From the responses I have received this configuration isnt available anywhere in the Dallas area.

With these new features, sounds like I would be better off waiting for a 2013 in order to get exactly what I want even if it's a little more expensive.

I wonder how long until the 2013 is available...

while my current car is graphite grey (dark metallic grey). doesnt show dirt... and lol doesnt even show when waxed :(

My Genesis will be the white satin peal color

thanks for the info OP

based on prior HMA Model Year spec announcements to dealer lot time frames, I'd say Sept-Oct. -- but, I'm no expert.

I'm also pretty much all in for the White Satin Pearl. I've been in a polished metal metallic car for the past 5 years now...I'm a Autogeek/Autopia/DD freak and would like to show the efforts of my Flex/PC and wide assortment of detailing products off a bit more.

In Hyundai does not include more color options, then this will be my last Genesis. We have the Sterling Blue, love the color and they dropped it.

We'll get a look at the 2G Genesis well before that - Hyundai supposed to reveal the 2G concept Genesis later this summer or in the fall.

The original timetable was a Korean launch during the latter half of 2013, but that may have been moved up (figure a US launch 5-6 months after the Korean launch).

And yeah, it's silly for Hyundai to not offer a deep blue paint job on the R-Spec.

I wanted that color and they didn't have it when i went to get my genesis in 09 and now it's discontinued. They need to bring it back

Thanks for the welcome news! I know you can't completely go off a concept, but it will certainly dictate the direction they are headed in with it.

Same...I really like my Genny in the Sterling Blue and get lots of compliments on the car and it's color. While I understand getting rid of the 4.6L offering the removal of the 5.0 is a questionable move...now your basically telling the customer either buy a V6 or you have to choose the R-SPEC with a stiffer suspension/ride and a very limited color choice if you want an 8Cyl....that IMO is not smart business.

If I were in the market for a '13, I'd be unhappy about the lack of color choices. Still, this is mostly good news. With all the navi updates for 2013, the redesigned Genny is really going to have to up the ante with features like heads-up display, surround camera views, collision detection, and so on. It'd also be good if they fix the driver's side visor mirror, which won't open fully on my car. (JK: I know about the TSB.)
