  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2013 Genesis R-Spec...CarPlay add-on

definitely not out of the box, I know the OE hardware is different on those

I'm pretty sure on the newer systems you can just purchase the OE software update which includes CarPlay/AA.. correct me if I'm wrong
Thank you for the quick response. Ultimate models differ from Signature models. The software updates do not enable AA/CarPlay.

This is the price Ultimate trim owners pay. Oh well, thought I’d ask!

Do you have AV input? If so, we could make this work. Again just need to sit and poke at the right vehicle for a little while.

My biggest challenge in this line of work is getting cars in our hands for testing and tweaking. Esp 'older' vehicles like these.

@Silver5.0 will this work on an Equus Ultimate? Generic interior shot below for reference:

Lol, after digging a little on a 2016 Equus, it actually looks like the same hardware! screen and radio connector pin-outs appear to be the same. Which may explain why its not being used as a touchscreen in the BH Genesis, but is in the Equus models (you have touchscreen, correct?).

So it will plug right in, but there will probably be a few small tweaks to be done, after that it will be another compatible model.

I’m not sure whether or not my car has a touchscreen or not, but it looks to be the same screen as yours.

Please message me if/when you get this worked out for the Equus. I’m interested. If you need a test car, I can provide mine to you here in SoCal!

Whenever you get this product finished please let me know. This is one of the major drawbacks of older texh that doesn't have a massive market share... now if it was a Honda product there would be 100 different solutions for this issue. So this will fit my 2013 R-Spec with Nav correct?

Yes that's the test car the OP is using.

Honestly love this car, got it in Jan before the gaspocolypse. I'd love Android auto in this car, would make it just perfect. I chilling with the 2012 5.0 r-spec so it should be the same

Nice. I'm waiting for the disc set to arrive to update the GPS in my 2011 4.6l. This is a superior solution. Keep us posted.
May I ask where you got the update set and how much it was? Just purchased my 2011 4.6.

Ordered from the dealer, just over $100 Canadian. Unfortunately, update requires a dealer authorization code that I've been unable to obtain.

Hey @Silver5.0, any progress you can share? Interested for my 2014 with the knob controller.

No updates to report, but hopefully in a month or so I will have something

Following; I would definitely be interested in something like this. It's the single biggest drawback of these cars for me personally. Looking forward to hearing more info.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I was also wondering about the projected timeline on this. I have been looking at other options and they are not good.

Also is there an easy way to just enable the touchscreen option for us non-engineers?

@Silver5.0
Any updates on the module?
Unfortunately, no movement. We’re very close to releasing our toyota carplay which i know isnt relevant to you guys but there’s way more of those on the road so thats been the focus

The bigger problem though is that i havent driven my Genesis in a few months, the ECU burnt out all of a sudden while driving and the part is on global back order according to Hyundai. Im super bummed the car is collecting dust at my buddy’s shop right now

Ill def update you all when i have something to report.

Ah man that sucks about your Genesis.
Hopefully you'll be back on the road soon.
Thanks for the update.

Not a chance… we had to code a custom touch matrix via CAN IDs to make it work on custom hardware. It’d be even more work to make it do anything to control factory functions. It isnt that simple

Car's back on the road! On a side note, I have the ability to offer virginized ECU's (as in, ready to be programmed for VIN) for 12-14 R-Spec if anyone needs one for a price less than half the dealer cost.. Contact me for more information.

The Genesis unit is in our sights now (albeit along with other projects) for sure now that Toyota CarPlay is about ready
