  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2013 Oil Change

Ah, I didn't know I was asleep and having this fantasy. Can I change the chanel?

I do my own work as well. I have access to a full lift and facilities with a tire balancing machine. ;)

Next time you pull the drain plug, clean it off and take a close look at it. you just might find the small magnet inbeded in the plug. ;)

Thats the same pan as on my 2013 r-spec. My 2012 4.6 did not have this... interesting, thought they may have added something.

Have you considered cutting an access opening in the plastic splash pan to let you at the filter? It already has an opening to get at the drain plug. Not a big deal but I don't need the aggravation of re&re the plastic shield. I can see me leaving it right off one day ... <G>

Secondly, I can't tell by the picture, does your hoist have arms or is it drive on? If it has arms, do you put them under the suggested jacking flanges? Do you use hockey pucks to lift on? Pucks work well on my C5 Vette, might work well here too.

Thanks ..... RonJ

I have the plug out of my 2010 4.6 right now and there is no magnet.
Old wives tale. It may have been true for some cars a long time ago, but probably not anymore. As mentioned, that is what oil filters are for.

Since the filter housing is plastic, Hyundai engineers are probably concerned that some road debris could hit it and that all the oil would drain out of the crankcase.

2013 5.0 R-Spec, yup same under car pan you have to remove to access the filter and drain plug, I do oil & filter changes, rotate tires, and brake pads, plus cabin and engine air filters. Everything I can do in the maintenance schedule section to save a buck and know it was done right. Been a hands on car guy since I was 16.

Me too. Making sure it's done right is my priority.

Many cars still have magnetized drain plugs. My chevy LS crate motor from my last vehicle had a magnetized plug

What model year is that? I know that was common on US made cars at one time, but have never noticed it on Asian cars. I guess my main point is that not all cars have magnetized plugs, even if they all did years ago (although not sure if they all did).
