  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone, I am just about to purchase my first Genesis, a 2015 AWD 3.8 v6. Unfortunately there is no 5.0 AWD yet... Lets hope soon.

My question is: Are there any performance upgrades like air induction or computer programmers to help improve the performance of this car.

Please help.
Mark

If performance is your main criteria then I suggest you don't settle for the 3.8 and wait till a 5.0 is available. You'll never get the performance of the 5.0 with any easy/quick updates. If you're spending so much money on a car you should get exactly what you want.

Figure out how to import a 5.0 AWD from Canada? There has to way for the determined. How do people who move here do that? Buy up there with local added provided by a comrade Genny owner.. Then make the paperwork applications. Lots of time and paper.., maybe low cash to get it done. They have same pollution and safety standards. I have no idea if this is possible.

Since the car's a bit of a pig, you can shed a few hundred lbs. Here's a few weight saving ideas:
  • Remove spare tire
  • Never drive with friends
  • Never fill more than 1/4 tank of gas
  • fill tires with helium
  • remove interior carpets
  • remove back seats
  • remove trunk carpets
  • remove power window hardware x 4
  • remove all plastic trim from engine compartment
  • remove all plastic trim from passenger compartment
  • remove front passenger seat
  • remove all plastic trim from beneath the car
  • remove all speakers but one
  • remove all speakers and the head unit
  • remove the dashboard, door cards, and remaining seat

When you're done it'll look pretty much like this. But it'll be SOOO much faster!!!

Now that the V8 guys have gotten in their shots....

- Exhaust:
RSA made cat-deletes for the 2011-2014 V6. Check with them to see if they are making some for the 15 (msastore.com).

Magnaflow now makes a V6 cat-back. I had to use the V8 version on my 2012 so that's good news for you guys.

- Pulleys:
The Genesis Coupe aftermarket water-pump, alternator, and crank shaft pulleys all fit our Sedan. I have been running them for a while with no issues. Your engine is the same as mine so I see no reason why they wouldn't fit the 2015.

- Rims:
Not specific to the Genesis, but Hyundai OEM wheels are notoriously heavy. Switch them out with a set from TireRack that are in the 20-23lbs each and you'll save a good bit on unsprung weight.

- Carbon fiber hood??? Don't know about this one for the 2015, but they are available for the 12-14.

- Intake: You're going to have to go the customized route. I recommend buying 3.5" modular parts from Spectre racing or equivalent and building one yourself.

- Sprint Booster: Not much of a performance enhancer, per se, but it improves throttle response and therefore the "fun-to-drive" aspect. Allegedly the throttle is a bit more responsive on the 2015 compared to my 2012, but I can't confirm.

There are no chips for the Sedan. The ECU uses proprietary encryption and no one has bothered to decode for the Sedan. The coupe has aftermarket tunes available but I was told they aren't compatible with the sedan.

Hope this helps. My car is quite a bit quicker than when I got it. I've time about a 3-4 tenths of a second quicker 0-60, which is good for a few bolt ons.

Stripping down the car is boring :D

This is more fun ;)

Two turbos would require wider tyres....much wider! :p

Thank you for all your input. I reached out to Hyundai in Canada and even USA. I can buy in Canada but all warranties will be void since I am living in USA. Warranties are not transferable unless you have an issue like moving.

I just wish there was a simple turbo and air induction system to get a few more ponies out of the V6 until the Hyundai USA gets their heads out of their ass and put the 5.0 in the AWD. Living in Chicago I need the AWD.

Thank you again,
Mark

You'll regret not getting the V8.
AWD is going to be slower than just the rwd too because you'll be lugging around an extra 800+ lbs of awd gear.

Being from Milwaukee, I too wasnt sure about RWD with the snow and poor snow removal in the city, but its really turned out to be a non-issue, especially with snow tires.
I do quite a bit of traveling on top of it and I have yet to be stuck or stranded.

Don't let all the industry marketing jargon fool you, you'll be just fine with this RWD car in the snow.

Due to the poor gas mileage of the 5.0 AWD, it is unlikely we will see one any time soon, or maybe never. There will probably eventually be V6 3.3 Twin Turbo, but not sure when (maybe 2017 model). The TT is available on the 2017 G900 (new Equus) that was just released in Korea.

The V8 is clearly faster, but - 800 lb of AWD gear? It's only 157 lb: the V6 AWD weighs 4,295 lb vs. 4,138 lb for the V6 RWD.

And, yes - you don't need AWD to drive in snow, but it's benefits go beyond just snowy roads:
