I wanted to get some night time shots of the lights for you but the dealership closed earlier then expected this evening, maybe I can get more here in a day or two. Here are a few pics as the sun was going down, I stood about 30' away from the car. This is the V6 AWD with Tech which is the same lighting as the Ultimate. The further away you move the brighter those eyelashes become.....enjoy


I think the lights on this look ok and the tail lights are a love/hate relationship at best, I do like the rear turn signals.....there are definitely nicer offerings from competitors and honestly I prefer how they look on the previous generation 2012+. Now if Hyundai would have kept them like we seen in pre-production models those would have been nice. I don't like how the blinkers are on the front of the car.....just my 2 cents on the subject !

Thanks for the pics! I actually tried all the settings today, but the lights were so much less bright than what these photos show. It was to the point where both the sales guy and I were asking each other whether they were on or not. I posted about this issue in another thread.

Based on these photos (where they look nice and bright), I guess it must have been one of these possible issues when I tested them out:
a) It was 10 am and partly sunny out. Maybe my sight angle wasn't good?
b) The car we tested has an issue or some setting wasn't right.
c) They need time to warm up? We only looked for about 10 seconds before switching the settings.

I believe the differences we are seeing are because of the available DRL cancelling feature offered on the US model. I am curious to see what the Canadian model will offer as it will definitely be different from the US. I noticed the on/off DRL switch on the US model and being we have mandatory DRL this switch will not be on the CDN model. Maybe we get the led DRL like in the test/review vehicles as this system is obviously functional and available.

If your off to the sides they diminish in brightness a lot and the closer I stood the less bright they appeared also, I'm guessing it's because the LED's are very directional in their light output and as your angle changes they look dimmer. They could have put each one in it's own reflective housing like Audi and they would have been much brighter from all directions. In the pre-production models they were using a much more powerful LED system which also acted as the blinker. Someone had posted that on the base model the eyelashes are also the blinkers, and that the high and low beams are separate from each other and not in one housing like the HID's are. I haven't seen a base model to be able to compare the two setups.

We had the V6 AWD up on the rack when it first came in, the tech and I looked around near the light housing and couldn't see anything that would allow for them to be added.....doesn't mean it's not there just not readily noticable.

They are there, but not visible from above. If you remove the under body panel as you would to change the oil, you can see the connectors on both sides near the horn assemblies. There are gray plugs in the two passenger side connectors and there is an orange plug in the driver side connector.

I have a USDM 5.0 Ultimate and when I put mine on the parking lights setting only the white LED surround "eyelash" remains on. I don't get any amber lights on.

DANGIT! Just bought a '14 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T AWD with Nav package for my wife. It doesn't have ANY DRLs whatsoever!!! Hyundai needs to hire a lighting expert pronto. Their design policies are haphazard.

What online forums do you other Santa Fe owners here frequent?

To be brutally honest, I continue to be amazed that people seem to be so bothered by the DRL's that they can't even see? I think the amber lights look fine and they do the job they are supposed to do quite well without following what everyone else is doing. To me, the LED strips/band DRL's are getting old/too trendy already. But that's just me

I don't care - just an observation as I can see them on other cars.... And so many cars I see these days seem to be copying the audi-led brow look so it has become a fad and (to me) a little old already. I love the looks/design (interior and exterior) of the car and enjoy the ride, performance, handling and features - not how cool my lights might look (or not look) to those I'm driving past.

I also think the tail is fine as it is - understated, yet classy but with a sporty feel - again, without the chrome strip between the tail lights that it seems like most cars have used over the last few years!

But as I said, to each his own!

Yes - I do this a lot during the day when it is cloudy/rainy. I like having the LEDs upfront and in the rear (taillights) versus just the DRL, which are quite bright. That said, although they do turn off, you need to remember they're not on Auto when you get in the car in the dark. With street lights, bright gauges, etc..., it is easy to drive off thinking you're headlights are on when in fact all you have are the parking lights on.

The contol stalk has 4 discrete settings and you have to pick one:

- Headlights On (obviously includes tail lights too)
- Parking Lights On - LED Brow and taillights only, amber DRL's are off
- Auto (will turn DRL's on in daylight and headlights/taillights on at night or once it measures a set low light threshold)
- DRL Off (for use in daylight to prevent amber DRL's from automatically turning on, if desired)

For all of these the lights will all automatically shut down when you turn the car off.

I know some here are not happy with the fact that Hyundai decided to use Amber bulbs for the DRLs/Turn Signals, but I'm fine with the USA setup. The thing that is most important to me is getting the best light output I can get at night, and I love the Bi-Xenon HID headlamps in my 2015 V6 Ultimate. The Deer population where I live makes driving at night a dangerous proposition, and the HID projectors on the 2015 Genesis put out plenty of light and have a wide beam that helps me see the Deer on the roadside as well as freezing them from running out in front of my car. I have seen the LED headlight setups offered by Acura, and the light output is not as bright and even across the front of the vehicle as the light output from the Bi-Xenon projectors on my car. I'm not that interested in headlamp "bling", I want headlamp performance!

When i was looking at the pictures of the '15 Genesis i discovered that there is a different light where our signals are. does anyone know what these lights are? There are pictures of the different lights attached. Perhaps it's for the high-beams instead of having a bi-xenon setup but i am not sure

That's the Korean (KDM) Genesis - the additional projector inboard is the high beam. The outer is the low beam. The turn signal is in the LED brow (I believe it's called a switchback - normally the brow is white for DRL or parking light, but a portion of it turns Amber when turn signals are activated.

Having a 2012 model, I couldn't figure out what the hell he was talking about, since that's the way mine are.
