  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just noticed (just started this) that if I floor it when going about 35mph, it accelerates fine until it hits about 5,500rpms, then it jerks hard as if the rev limiter cuts engine off? The jerk in the car is abrupt, not subtle at all. My wife thought I was hitting the brake real quick and letting off. This is not right.

If you can reproduce, video record it and show to your dealer. Doesn't sound right at all.

+1 If it does it all the time, take your service writer for a little drive.

Will do that --- thxs, regards.

are you manually operating the trans and holding a gear while doing this? not sure but maybe the genesis doesn't automatically upshift in manual mode to reduce rpms, but instead kicks in the rev limiter.

This happens in normal, econ, or sports mode. just started doing this few days ago. Does it without using the manual shifter.

I had the exact same issue. See my post below. The only conclusion my dealer could come up with is that it must of had something to do with he tail light recall. Have you had this recall done?

I have not had the tail light recall taken care of yet. But it doesnt make sense that the tail light would cause a shift issue? OK, thanks for the info, and let me read your post. Thanks for your post. Dan

The leaky taillight, where water gets in, also somehow can cause a soft or hard short that affects the cars digital data bus. There is some kind of connection by the tailight to the data bus. Reported here can cause transmission problems/failures, and the car can shut down while moving. That is why it is a recall. The other commenter has a good point. There are other posts on the twilight leak issue.

All I know is that I had the exact same issue as you and after the recall was complete, zero issues. Water gets into the taillight assembly and comes in contact with wiring that is in turn, somehow connected to the Transmission logic.

Here are the (3) symptoms that show up on the TSB. The last one is the one my dealer has suspected caused my issues. I doubted him but like I noted above, since the recall was completed, I have had no issues.
 The incorrect gear is displayed in the instrument panel
 Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination
 A delay in the engagement of the selected gear

OK, will take the car in next Thursday (only time they can take it), get a loaner and have them do the tail light recall, and check the tranny. Will tell you how it works out when I find out. Thanks for all the input from the forum. Regards.

PS - They told me that they would do the tire recall thing sometime down the road -- that sounded good to me. I have 9,500 miles on the 5.0 2015 ultimate. LOVE that orth seat it has in it.

So how has your back been drpearso since you purchased the new Genesis compared to the previous version? I remember reading on here how bad the GEN1 was for you. I drove a Honda Civic SI (shoebox) for 12 years before picking up my new Genesis 5.0 last fall. All I have to say is, these seats are amazing and the best investment for my back ever, for sure...

Alwaysforward -- Sorry just checked the forum and saw your note regarding spine/back. This is the best and most expensive orthopedic device I've bought ever, except for operations that just made things worse, or the same. Yes, for sure Hyundai got the seat issue resolved in a great way. These seats with the bolsters as tight as they can get is how I drive the Gen2. Its really a world class seat for me. I've been in $100k Audi seats etc and the Gen2 is the deal, period. I love the seats, period. OK, let me get this tranny deal taken care of Thursday. Regards, Dan

Thanks for the follow up. I too keep my Bolsters as tight as they go. Good luck today with your tranny woes Dan. Keep us posted.

RE transmission woes. These darn electrical connectors can really mess up the transmission signals and everything can go haywire. Kinda like pouring water on your keyboard and expecting the commands to get to the computer if you know what I mean.

In 2002 I bought a brand new Acura TL Type S. Nice car but less than 2 years after ownership I had gone through 3 transmissions. I got so fed up I traded it in for another brand. I came by the fellow who took care of me in another dealership and asked him what ever happened to my transmission issues. He told me the transmission electrical plug was not sealing well and had corrosion on the terminals so it acted just like a faulty transmission, yes it was all the time just a poor connection, never a bad transmission so to say. I have to assume this is what could and has happened to the Genesis and therefor the recall to rectify.

Agreed Midnightsun, Since I had the taillight recall done, I have had zero tranny issues. Knock on dash :D

Update on shifting issue on 5.0 2015. Dealer said they got my car to repeat exactly what I told them it was doing. They do not know what the problem is. So putting me in a Genesis instead of the Nice loaner Sonata Sport I'm in now.

Maybe I need to see how forum member 'Alwaysforward' same problem was resolved? Got to love how Hyundai Dealer her takes care of their customers. They always do here at Parkway Hyundai.

Are they going to do the recall and then test it again? I was very skeptical that it was the root cause but like I said, no issues since. What I am wondering is if the water builds up and creates an electrical short. The TCB does not have them doing anything except install rubber/foam pieces to keep the water from coming into contact with the wiring. Keep us posted. Glad to hear your dealer is like mine. They put me into a 2015 Genesis V6 model. Impressed with how they treat us Genesis owners at Wallace Hyundai in Stuart.

Last Friday after the dealer put me in a new 800 mile Genesis 5.0, they said the problem is the low amount of fuel getting to the engine at higher rpms. So they are ordering the part. Have not heard from them since Friday, but Since I'm in the nice White 5.0, I'm happy. Its not the Ultimate, but I still like it. For some reason the white feels more nimble, and smaller. I can tell that the ride is different due to no magnetic shocks etc, but it doesnt bother me .... i like the white color. Will wait and hear from dealer .... Regards.
