  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Was emailed this link this morning. Thought I would pass it along.

DETROIT (AP) — Hyundai is recalling more than 26,000 Genesis luxury cars in the U.S. and Canada to fix a water leak that can cause the transmission gear shifter to malfunction.

The recall covers cars from the 2015 model year. Water can leak into the rear light assembly. In rare cases that can cause delays in gear shifting or display the wrong gear on the instrument panel. The gear selector is connected electrically to the rear lights.

Hyundai says in government documents that the incorrect gear can increase the risk of the cars moving unexpectedly and causing a crash. The company says it has no reports of any crashes or injuries from the problem.

Dealers will install pads to stop the water leak at no cost to the owners. Hyundai will notify owners starting in April.

It's amazing that amazon sells the pads if you want to do it yourself http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AY0K7YA/

I think you just put it on the rear. I would try it but im afraid i dont have enough experience. Help?

I'm a little surprised and a bit disappointed that Hyundai NA hasn't sent out a recall mailing to their customers that own 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedans.

My guess is that they are waiting to get the fixes into the dealers before sending them out.

I check the Recall link at My Hyundai and this is what pops up:

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
This is really not a big deal. Seems like they poorly engineered the breather holes in the tail light assembly and are now basically sticking a rubber pad on it to block off any rain water that may get in and cause mayhem in the electrical. I would not worry too much on not getting this done immediately.

I posted this on the 9th in the other recall thread:

I called the service department at the dealership. The service employee stated that they do not have the parts in to complete the recall work and have no idea when they will be in.

Next, I called Hyundai customer service and spoke with a representative. The representative advised there is no remedy currently for the recall.
I enlightened her by quoting directly from the NHTSA website:

REMEDY:
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will apply pads to prevent water intrusion into the combination lamp housing, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 128.

She replied "Oh. What I meant to say is that the fix should be available shortly."

I asked could she define the time frame for shortly and she stated, "Hopefully by the end of April."

I'm surprised since the recall was announced on February 19, 2015 and since the remedy has been announced, that these parts have not been shipped to the dealerships to date. Hyundai's definition of "shortly" is quite a bit longer duration than mine.
