  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis Sedan Test Drive

What dealership in Houston are you buying from? I test drove the 5.0 at Ron Carter Hyundai yesterday. I FELL IN LOVE with the car. However, the price gouging tactics are pissing me off. (MSRP $58,700) They want to FORCE you to buy the pinstriping, tint, nitrogen, etc package. What the heck?? I don't want any FRICKEN pinstriping! This was going to be my first Hyundai....but maybe NOT.

I took pics of the car, but don't want to get flamed for not sizing them correctly. ;-) Any helpers out there?
You are just going to have to wait until supply increases and prices come back down. Regarding the pinstriping, I would just go to a different dealer next time since some dealers want to pinstripe everything on their lot.

Mark: Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about waiting. Then I remembered USAA, PenFed & Navy credit unions all have car buying services. Let me try that route. ;-)

Wow, you've been all over. ;-) I'm going to check Sterling McCall also. I don't want any extra fluff. So we'll see.

Yeah who wants crap like pinstripes, gold emblems and the like anymore? Removed the pin striping from my 2012 and I love the small razor blade marks the dealer left on my paint when installing them... Not

Definitely call around. There are many dealers that are not marking up the price. 3 of the 7 dealers I've called or visited are not marking things up.

I went to a dealer today that had 4 cars in stock after selling 2 this past week. They were sold at MSRP.

Keep in mind...

Although there's a ton of buzz in this forum and very good early press coverage for the car, the reality is, the market is not stampeding dealers for the privilege of buying a $40K to $56K Hyundai. I'm not knocking Hyundai...it's just the reality of the brand's image (it's light years ahead of where it was before, but it's still far from where it can be).

I've dealt with a 4 month waiting list before on a previous car. Relatively speaking, the hype on this car is nothing. As an example, people have been on the Porsche Macan waiting list since January).

There's a shortage of supply and options (colors, etc.) for the '15 Genesis right now for sure, but I think that'll last weeks not months.

Maybe some people can't wait, but in a couple of months I think invoice or below should be the average selling price.

There are so many factors in getting a " good deal" for example , day of the month , day time or night time , rain or no rain, Internet department or walk in etc etc

Luckily I plan on buying something in August so by then I expect the Genny prices to have stabilized. Drove a 3.8 today and was very impressed with the interior and features. Engine was turbine-smooth and pulled a bit harder than my 2009. Not totally sold on the exterior tbh. Parked it right next to my 09 and kind of preferred mine...

One thing I always liked about the Gen 1 is although many reviewers called the styling bland or nothing special or does not stand out, it does have the classic looks of luxury sedan a la Mercedes S500. ;) Personally I find the Gen 1 quite refined and unique on it's own in a good way.

Auto reviewers are jaded, and I would never trust their idea of whether a design is good-looking or not. Not only are they jaded, but they make very little or zero money for doing the reviews and almost always have real jobs doing something else. Even in top magazines, the reviewers are often freelancers who get paid a paltry amount for each article published. Basically, these reviews are only good for any objective information they provide, and any personal opinions they offer are not worth much. There is no reason for them to even mention styling IMO, since any potential customer can decide that for themselves.

The Gen 1 never came across as stunning or different by any previous review I ever saw. The best of the reviews had it as a good attempt to enter the luxo market but it was labelled by all as bland. All the new gen reviews basically say it is a great looking car and overall a big improvement throughout vs the previous model. These reviews are consistent for both generations, how can they all be wrong?

  1. Because they are generally written by people who are 26 years old, and not 56 years old.
  2. But I admit that the G1 was not "stunning" since it basically copied MB (front) and BMW 5 (rear). But those were pretty classic designs. I am not sure I want stunning, since that is highly subjective, and one man's stunning is going to be another man's grotesque.
  3. IMO, there is nothing more bland than the side view or rear view of the 2015 Genesis.

Actually the gen 1 rear looks very much like a Honda Accord. Every time I come up on one I think it's a Genesis. Slant the H and there you go. ;)

Yeah those accords catch my eye a lot on the road..but there are 5 people in the IT department alone at my job that have one. Only one 1G genesis. 450 people in the department. I love driving a car that isn't flooded in the market. Kind of like that equus commercial..."what is that?" Especially once you debadge the back and add the wings in place of the flying H

This model of the Accord came out well after the Genesis BH if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if you were implying that the Genesis copied the Accord, but I actually think it could've been the other way around. This, or the Accord was borrowing the same BMW rear cues that Mark mentions.

I agree though. Every time I see the Accord from behind I initially always think Genesis.

Not implying anything really and yes the Genesis was initially styled to look like a 5 series BMW from the rear. The Accord did come out after the Genesis however they also probably wanted the BMW look as I doubt the design studio said lets go for the Genesis look

The new gen front grill really has me thinking Aston Martin and the stock wings really help. I have seen several comments saying they are just asking to be sued by Aston.

I agree with the comments about the Accord. That will actually be by next car. They hold their value. Can't say the same for Hyundai and I have been a Hyundai owner going back to 1989. Nothing has changed regarding their value retention in 25 years.

That is what is appealing to me. A car that someone has to ask you "What is that"...
