  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 turn signal burnout problem

So true. Especially with the 1999-2003 Mercedes models. My old 2002 E55 had brake-switch issues, ac blower issues, instrument cluster issues, etc. It was my first car that I had to repair electrical parts on.

Before that car my only automotive electrical work was installing aftermarket radios and amps.

The Genesis is fairly easy to work on compared to some other cars I owned over the years. Hell, my old 2006 VW GLI DSG needed a slew of specialty tools and special software to do any real repair work.

Just be glad you never bought a VW V10 Toureg with the transverse shaft driven AC compressor and AWD. That SUV was designed by a Porsche engineer with a vendetta against technicians. 32 hours to R/R the long block, excluding any actual block work.

The older VW Toureg was a piece of crap. The sunroof drain hoses leaked on the floor-pan in those models which also could short out a module or wiring harness on the floor, so the car had all kinds of electrical issues that required a new module if water corroded it; which is expensive as hell on a VW.

So yes, the electrical problems in the 2015 Genesis is very minor compared to some other used cars on the market.

The 2015 Genesis turn signal bulbs burnout issue can be fixed by swapping to 2357NALL bulbs and/or splice in a new 1157 light socket if the old socket is damaged.

I've been buying first year models for years both new and used. A proven glutton for punishment.

Hell, I bought a 2015 Genesis which I knew was a first year model which went against my better judgment. Still no regrets.:)

However, my 2015 does have its first year model issues.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Mine's 02/14 on the production sticker. Hows that for early production?

Damn. Hyundai should not even label your car a 2015 model.:)
My dealer told me this car was in the first 20 to be shipped to the US. Not sure how, the VIN is 015678.

I believe that the 2nd generation Genesis was sold in Korea starting in 2014; so it seems that about 15658 models was sold in Korea before making it to American shores as 2015 models.

At that rate, you might as well disassemble the whole vehicle.

Totally true. I think they sold 15650 in Korea. An extra 8 were sent to the USA for testing and then I believe they were destroyed. They tracked the day lights out of them to get the right suspension tuning for North America bound vehicles. Hyundai didn't achieve Lexus quality, but they came close with the budget they had. And for a 6 model year old car, it STILL looks good.

VW has been notorious for drains getting clogged. Remember having to keep pipe cleaners in our '80 Dasher Diesel. I wasn't even 5 when I learned how to clean out the overflow valve in the passenger wheel well. Had 5" of water to bail out with McDonald's wax coated cups.
As for the bulbs, you can always pay a bit more and get some quality led bulbs. No resistor needed.

Cheaper 1157/2357 LED bulb circuits can also fail due to excessive heat (even without needing external resistors) when used as DRL in a few months or maybe a couple years; so I will just buy a new set of $8 Phillips brand 2357NALL bulbs since my current set has been working for 3 years without issue.

I will not spend $80-$100+ on top end amber LED DRL light bulb sets for my ride when a set of $8 amber 2357NALL bulbs will last just long; if not longer.

The troublesome part here is, why wouldn't Hyundai release a TSB to address this problem? Seems very shortsighted to not do so, might require a difficult or expensive fix to address the root cause.

The issue is probably addressed with an updated supply of bulbs(2357NALL or similar type) when customers bring the car in for a bulb change.

There is a TSB for the bulb socket repair.

well, that is good news then! have not followed this one two closely as I got lucky and original bulbs were fine for 5 years until one gave up the ghost. Also 2014 production.

also fwiw was intending to reply to this fellow.

I just had the dealer replace the wiring harness after yet another bulb burnout. This has been an issue since the car was 6 months old and has continued. The dealer was unaware of the issue (?) and I suggested they look at this forum. Their reply was that they didn't have the time to bother reading about the issue.

The dealer assured me that Hyundai had approved the fix under warranty, but I would need to pay for it and be reimbursed. Hyundai agreed they had approved the warranty claim but since I paid the dealer they wouldn't cover it.

This is my second Genesis and I will never again buy any Hyundai product. I'm telling everyone I know they are incompetent and liars. A friend was about to buy a new G90 and she's now buying a BMW.

Decided to have the dealer replace the left and right front light sockets. They want $529 to do the work.

The job is too simple for that amount of money; cut two wires, splice in new sockets with metal butt connectors, and cover connections with waterproof shrink wrap . Simple electrical work.

The hardest part of the job is just removing the parts in the way under the hood to access the bulbs. I would just take the car to a electrical shop or better yet do the job yourself if possible.

$529 is way too expensive for replacing the two drl sockets and bulbs. Parts are less than $30 and labor under 2 hours.

I hate to say it, but that will probably be a complete waste of money. The issue isn't with the housing, sockets, or anything like that. The problem is with the bulbs. You can change the sockets out to your hearts content (and spend the money to do it) but it won't change the fact that the OEM incandescent bulbs were never designed to be used as DRLs. It's a design flaw that was fixed in later models.
