  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So the other day I went to pass another car (very safely) and when the car got to around 4500 rpm's it lost all power almost as if I hit the brakes. I fell back in behind the car I was going to pass as I was not able to make the pass. I have replicated this several more times and the car is now at dealer. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Car looses all power at 4500 rpm. It will happen when it is floored and when you roll into it and rpm's reach 4500.

I haven't yet but this is a but disconcerting. keep us updated.

I will . I know you have done quite a few mods to your car. Next time you get a chance abuse your car a little and let me know how it responds. I need a sign that there is hope that I can pass a few cars!!!!!

I do get her up to speed frequently, no issues yet. hopefully its an easy to diagnose issue.

I have used high excelleration with my 5.0 Ultimate on almost a daily basis getting on the highway as we have a very short lead in lane. No issues here.

Try high acceleration and see if you have the problem :D

Did the check-engine light illuminate?

No. No lights, alarms, whistles nothing but shut off. Seems like the rev limiter but why at 4500 I dont know. Hopefully something easy.

I had something that I want to say is similar. The car was just glacial on acceleration. I had accidentally enabled "snow mode." I don't remember trying to go above 4500 RPM however, so I can't speak to that part of it.

Snow Mode ? Does US version of 5.0 Ultimate have Snow mode?

Yup, all Genesis models do. Hold down the driving mode selector button for I think about 4 seconds and it activates snow mode.

Ok i buy that. I dont have the car it is at the dealer since this am. But i would assume snow mode is no different than any other drive mode and reverts back to normal after car is shut off for a while. Is this correct??

Honestly the one time I engaged it was accidental, and after about 5 minutes I realized what was going on, then manually changed it.

BUT.. I think your assumption is correct, and that it resets on restart. It sounds like yours isn't doing that, which would seem to suggest it's something other than accidental snow mode engagement that you experienced.

It almost sounds like an ECU enforced limp mode, but it's kinda hard to imagine how that would happen without at least triggering a check-engine light.

Correct.

That is disconcerting. To me it seems there is some sort of governor mode enabled either via a setting or via a sensor. Did this just start happening out of the blue? What changed since it worked normally? Do you always use Premium fuel (I think the V8 requires it, right?)?

Yes it does. Hold the mode button down for 2 seconds.

Wasn't there somebody on here that had a problem with a crimped gas line, that reared it's head only during high-demand situations?

Any chance you had the cruise on and the distance keeping was set to max and started to trigger while you were leaving the lane that you were following the other car in? I've noticed it practically kill the engine until it registers for a couple of seconds in your "new" lane before it resumes throttle operation.

No this can be repeated every time. Floor it or roll into it and at approx 4500 rpm's SEE YA.
I did put K&N air filters in hen I purchased car and I run regular gas because it says you can. Does not seem like a fuel quality issue as much as a sensor for one of the many gadgets on the car reacting to a false issue. The car is at the dealer and I will post as soon as I hear from them. Hoping its something simple!!
