  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tonight, while driving on the freeway, I noticed that the blind spot warning system seemed not to be working. Odometer at 4,000 miles. Owned since October 2014.

Cars would be to the right and left of me, with all of us doing around 65 mph, and I noticed that the lights on the right and left side mirrors that indicate a vehicle is in the blind spot, were not illuminating as they usually do, when there are vehicles along side of you, in your blind spots.

I checked to see if the indicator light was on the button on the dash, and it was.

So, I decided to exit at the first available ramp, and pulled into a gas station, and stopped the car, turned it off, opened the door, and then, restarted the car.

I got back on the freeway, and the blind spot detectors started to work as usual.

I drove another 3 miles home uneventfully, however, when I turned off the ignition, the "window open" light came on, indicating one of the right side windows was open.

I looked and saw that neither one was open, then tried to roll them up from the driver's console on the arm rest, after restarting the car.

After pressing all of the window buttons "up", to make sure they were all up, and visually inspecting all of them to make doubly sure, I turned the ignition off again, and the "window open" light came on again.

I restarted the car once again, and tried to roll all the windows down, and then up again. The driver's side windows, both front and rear, operated normally, however, the passenger side windows, both front and rear, would not operate, either up or down, using either the driver's console buttons, or the buttons on each passenger side door.

I double and triple checked to make sure the window lock feature wasn't depressed, and still, could not activate either passenger side window.

I stopped the ignition, the window open chime and warning came on, once again, but this time, opened the driver side door, then, shut it and started the car, once again.

After doing this, everything operated normally, all of the windows operated from the console, and from the actual doors themselves, and after turning off the ignition, the "window open' light did not activate, and now everything seems to be working as designed.

I guess now I'm wondering if this is something as trivial as the car being metaphorically "rebooted", (stopping the ignition, opening the door, and re-staring,or, if there's a symbiotic relationship to the blind spot warnings not working along with the window open warning, and the failure of the passenger side windows to operate, thereafter.

I'm curious if any of you other owners, either V6 or V8, ultimate or signature, have experienced something similar?

I'm also curious what the diagnostics of something like this issue would be, whether or not there are codes generated by these kind of issues by the inboard computer, or if these issues have to be ferreted out by a mechanic actually having to duplicate the issue in order to fix it?

Going to the dealer tomorrow. They're a very good service department.

We'll see what they have to say.

That is what makes me very leery about that kind of technology. If you rely on it without looking at the traffic yourself, you could end up dead if it doesn't work right.

If you don't rely on it, and have to look at the traffic yourself to make sure, then what good is it?

It can save you a lot of checking when it is lit up.

I totally agree with Mark on that subject!

I will never relay on or trust electronic gizmos in any car, ever.

It is a supplement, not a replacement. Would you ride in an airplane without a stall warning? Or, would you rather backup a minivan close to a wall with or without a camera and distance sensors?

People got so lazy now a days and they rather see/use those thing as a replacement instead of use common sense.
I've been driving cars sine 1987 and never have had any of those sensors and I was perfectly fine. Now I "use" them, but believe me....I go out and see if I still have room if I'm backing up. Old habits never die, I guess ;)

What I'm saying is, they help but do not rely on them completely. An aircraft are a different story though, lol

Just guessing, could that be part of the recall that is coming out?? See if you can see water inside your taillights.

This kind of issue doesn't throw any codes from the inboard computer, so, I'll have to wait until the car does it again, and then drive it in to the dealer for diagnosis and repair.

By the way, I don't think anyone uses the blind spot warning detection system as their sole means of detecting other drivers, do they?

It's a convenient aid, like LKAS and TPMS and SCC and so on.

They're convenience features, not meant to eliminate due diligence on the driver's part.

In any event, thanks for the input.

I wasn't really looking to start a thread on the merits or pros and cons of these features, but rather, look to see if these issues I started the thread with had been experienced by other 2015 owners.

Thanks.

I have not experienced this, but my TPMS light is constantly coming on, every day, same spot during my morning commute. Shuts off at sometime during the day. Tire pressure is correct at 33 psi cold. As a matter of fact, the tire pressure does not display after driving a few minutes, so the TPMS system either needs to be reset or replaced. I am just waiting for my first service visit to get it checked. All this electronic stuff is maddening. As other members have stated, you cannot rely 100 % on this technology.

I could be mistaken, but that actually sounds like it might a RF interference problem.
