If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2016 Genesis News?

This will be easy. Did it look like this?:

Hyundai-Azera-2012-800-13.jpg

It sure did, except that the big Hyundai in the center of the trunk lid was hidden under the license plate and there was a Genesis badge on the right side of the trunk lid as low as it would fit. Obviously a bit of owner redecorating had been going on. I didn't see a trace of the red bar with the Azera on it under the chrome strip. It had been removed or else covered up.

Because I had sent them an email asking about 2016 changes, and they responded.
They are very unlikely to tell you even if they knew. Any official announcement will be posted on the Hyundai website.

There are two main reasons for this:
  • Competitive concerns
  • They don't want people to wait on buying a Genesis, they want you to buy one now. They always have hard time getting rid of prior year inventory, and dealers will not order as many new ones until the old ones are sold.
Sometimes, word leaks out from Korea, but KDM versions don't always have the same options as USA versions. Sometimes you can get info from a major car show if Hyundai brings it before the release date, but the major shows in Detroit and NYC are early in the year.

Do you reckon we will see any changes for the 2016 model?

Not likely but perhaps a little something here and there. Maybe LED foglight availability across he board. That would be smart anyway...

so you expect there to be no changes? wouldn't that mean there wouldn't be a 2016 model, just hyundai continuing to make the 2015?

Car don't always have significant changes year to year. Usually there can be a mid-cycle refresh, but that would not be until year three or so. There very well could be no real changes and it still would be the next model year - maybe a color change and minor tweaks.

surely android auto will be included at least?
Even if it the 2016 is identical to the 2015, at some point they have to change the model year designation.

I think if you read this entire thread, there are some ideas of what "might" change.

See the comment below...

100%. Android Auto is probably a given but that's not technically a significant change. Significant changes would include updates to the interior or exterior design and/or drivetrain updates/upgrades. Most of the time automobiles don't have any changes for the second or third year of a new design. As mentioned - the mid-cycle updates are where this happens. You don't want to have your customers buy an expensive product like an automobile only to offer a better one the following year making them angry they just bought a car that's so quickly outdated.

This happens every year with smartphone devices but those don't cost fifty thousand dollars. :p

a color change and "minor" tweaks would not be "no changes"

I understand the way this works, and I don't expect a redesign or a mid-cycle refresh. I just am looking for a few specific things that have been mentioned on this forum as likely. Having Android Auto and actually being able to use Google Maps instead of the year-behind, 2005 style nav that is currently there is a big deal to me. Having fog lights and the whole DRL thing improved are not a huge deal, but are also important to me. Those two issues are enough of a reason for me to buy a 2016 instead of a 2015 even with a good discount. However, having literally no changes would mean I would have no incentive to buy a 2016. Hence why I'm curious and anxiously awaiting any word on this.

It is unusual to find out these things much in advance. In the auto business, they tend to go by the motto: "loose lips sink ships."

Making a configuration change is easier than an engineering change. For example, making fog lights available on a V6 Ultimate does not require an engineering change since it is already available on the V8 (and on the V6 in Canada). Whether or not HMA will make fog lights available on the V6 is still up to them (not up to Hyundai Korea).

I think we will find out when the 2016 Genesis information is posted on the Hyundai website.

There likely will be some minor changes - whether that be adding the fog lights or something else.

H/K are usually pretty good at making changes fairly quickly for the areas that have gotten the most complaints (and don't require a major overhaul).

Case in point - the outgoing Kia Optima which was criticized for its hard front seats.

Kia changed to a cushier seat design for the 2nd MY - so something like adding more padding to the center console would seem likely.

We all know the V8 in the Genesis is not long for this world. From what I have read, the TT V6 will not make an appearance until the '17 or '18 MY. But that is all just hearsay so the TT V6 could be coming as early as next year.

With that in mind, I can see the TT V6 supplanting the V8 in the generic Genesis, but a revised TAU V8, or perhaps an all new V8, making an appearance in an N-Performance version of the Genesis sedan.

Here are some articles for you all to peruse:

I think he was just saying that there "could" be NO changes from year to year. I think we all agree there will be a little something updated here or there...

Yes, Mercedes has done it with the E-Class. Lexus has done it with the GS. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hyundai do it with the Genesis Sedan - a twin turbo V6 in anything but the highest performance version of the model - "N". But I don't think we'll see the new engine until at earliest the mid-cycle refresh.

Well Hyundai spent a couple hundred million developing the Genesis V8. I think they will keep it around as an option, at least in the Equus/K900 for a little while longer, especially now that they've got Albert Biermann. I do believe there is an ultra-high performance forced induction V8 in the Genesis's future (targeting M5 performance).

I have no doubt that V8 will be available in the Equus for the foreseeable future. It just may find it's way out of the Genesis. I bet it will. However, I do feel it's get a couple of turbochargers for the N-Performance version.

Hey everyone,

Got a bit of information today from a dealership rep regarding the 2016 Genesis. He indicated that October would be when the 2016's would be available (at that particular dealership at least), and that the dealerships are aware of what minor changes would be made, but they cannot pass along those details yet unfortunately. I'll be sure to pass along any other information I find out!
