  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2017/2018 radio swap in 2016 ultimate?

saw this vid a few days ago might pull the plug and purchase alil pricey
If you do it, install tips & photos would be greatly appreciated... Some of his wiring explanation was a little spotty.

There are videos on YouTube on how to get the dash apart, doesn't look too difficult.

I will, wana lookin around first mayb some one has a better deal and just making sure it works officially, and im doing alil more research to see if i can install a andriod tv box to run movies videos or w.e while in motion, i mostly want it to run videos in motion if possible, dash looks pretty straight forward prob gonna mount it to some abs plastic in the glove box or behind it, isnt much room

This guy was putting in something like that - this one's just one box...

I kno i saw but im not sure if the box connects to the car4play unit

That car4play unit is pretty interesting. For what we're trying to accomplish, it looks like the cleanest aftermarket solution that I've ever seen. I'm not crazy about how a separate microphone is necessary, but since it's essentially over-riding the existing interface and overlaying video on top, I understand why. Does anyone know if we (being 15-16 genesis owners without AA, and WITH 9.2 screens) need the extension cable for the LVDS input from the head unit?

I.2nd the.mic not a fan im goin to purchase the extension just incase the only thin the shippin is some crazy amount

Shipping looks to be about $70. That does seem a little steep, but then again, I'm not usually shipping things to and from S. Korea, so who knows.

The way shipping has slowed these days, you'll be ready for a new ride before it gets here...

Yeah, that's why I kinda lost interest in this thread. I'm probably going to be in a G90 by the end of the year... lol

For sure.... It'll stay low mileage for a while. My 5.0 only gets about 50mi a week, at most. I'm not in it enough to miss CP/AA anymore. Wish I could bring my driver's seat into the house as an office chair - need the lumbar support & heat!

I would want to use this for Android Auto map display while using the stock radio for music. Would that work?

Can anyone get a wiring diagram for the ibox connector?

Can anyone get a wiring diagram for the ibox connector?
That's what I was afraid of - the website had almost no practical instructions for the normal em effer... Guess you'll have to watch that guy's video until you can figure it out. Kinda sucks, seems like that they have it figured out....

I think you're looking for pins 9 and 10 to hook the steering wheel CAN data. It's not multimedia CAN on 31 and 32.

On an unrelated note, seeing the cellular antenna called HSDPA worries me- that's going away with 3G service...

Figured it out thanks for the help guys tho thr can high low has to go to the ass'y ibox cant upload the vid, at wrk rn will get more posts later it works, that being said only when the car is in the on position, must be put into aux then long hold the call end button and it turns on before u do anything u must press anywhere on the screen for about 12 seconds then it goes to a calibration touch screen after setup its straight forward from there, andriod auto only works plugged in the only way to work it is through touching the screen dont use anything else because this is an overlay system so if u use the jog dial u coule be going through the oem system without seeing cause the screen is hijacked by the new car4play interface overall its an okay system want to root my phone so i can put youtube and Netflix on it to see if it works while driving, it should work

Hey guys, I was able to grab a 2018 head unit and i swapped it into my 2017 G80 5.0 Ultimate, recreating the same no sound issue that we know and love. My dad decided we should get an aftermarket amp with dsp and connect it to get audio, essentially bypassing the oem amp. So I took it to a shop and they installed the amp, but still no audio. My dad said it needs to be connected to the speaker level and not the remote (no clue what that means) and we told the guys, they didn’t seem to know what that is either. No audio came out but the beeping worked, and so did the parking sensors. Apple carplay worked flawlessly, even if I plug it in after turning the car on. They put the old head unit back in, and although i can hear the speakers on (they’re buzzing, making weird high pitched frequencies) no audio comes out of them. Only the middle speaker (on the dash) and the rear speakers (behind the rear seats) and the sub in the trunk. Also, blind spot sounds and parking sensor sounds aren’t working anymore. Any suggestions on anything else to do? We’re close but far. If all else fails, I’m requiring back to stock until we find another solution.

By the way the head unit was $225, a steal!

Have to use the original amp with original head unit. In order to use the aftermarket amp with the newer head unit, you'd have to have a MOST bus converter to take the optical audio signal and make it something an amp can use. There are currently no MOST DSPs made compatible with Genesis though.
