  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2017 G90 5.0L Reliability?

Saw in the Consumer Reports magazine that came Saturday that the G90 had dropped from a score in the high 80s, I think 88, to 69, primarily from reliability issues it seemed from the table. Lexus LS 500 still is < 50. New S-Class Mercedes is too new to give a score, but they indicated new price was $140,000-180,000. BMS 7 series had a score in the 80s still.

Cosumer Reports said the 3.3L twin turbo was "the better choice" for the G90. The magazine just has a short paragraph on each model, and the paragraph is unchanged from last year.

Genesis as a brand also dropped 13 positions, from either #1 or #2 last year, to somewhere in the middle of the pack. That also appeared to be from reliability issues. They may have had a leg up on pre-existing brands for a while as a new brand. Then as the 2012 and 2013 Genesis models started having more problems, that brought their scores down.

Thirty years a Lexus owner here. Traded in my beloved 2010 LS 460 for the 2018 G90. Drove the LS 500 and LS 500h first. They did not have that drive or ride, and my wife's boney butt didn't get along with the new Lexus seats. If only Genesis had the service of Lexus they would hurt them seriously.
My take on this controversy.

A gal at my office had a Lexus LS 460, traded it for a new Lexus LS 500
kept the LS 500 for about four months, next thing I notice she is in a Caddi suv. I asked her what happened to her Lexus, she said she hated
it, she said she liked the color and styling of the Caddi.

Go figure, she still has the Caddi.

I am curious, as we compare car reviews from different sources, and as we have seen with the biased press of late, if anyone has a take on car reviews being subsidized by manufacturers???

I do feel like consumer reports is less likely to be influenced by manufacturers since it is funded entirely by consumers.

I do wonder how much of what we read of car reviews is really unbiased information?

Sure stats are stats and 0-60 times are hard to fudge on, but we base so much of our car buying decisions on the subjective opinions of what we read. How much of that subjectivity is influenced by . . .

Got to throw some shade on all the great comments. I purchased a new G90 Ultimate 5.0 AWD new on September 28, 2020. I returned it to the dealership for noise and vibration issues on October 2, 2020. They had it for 31 "workdays days" (meaning the days the service was opened). They replaced the front AWD transmission, the left rear tire, the left front wheel bearing and battery. I took it home and drove it for about 1800 miles.
On December 25, 2020, after hard acceleration, the engine went into a "limp" mode. No RPM over 2,000, max speed 50 MPH and looses power ging uphill, now power steering. I gently drove it to the dealership where it has remained since Dec. 26. Initially, the Service Manager was calling every other day with updates and that ended last week with no calls. They have been working with Genesis Technical since its return to the dealership with zero success at identifying the problem.
The car has been in the shop for 62 days and I've had the "opportunity to drive it for about 57 days since I've owned it.
To me, this is completely unacceptable. This is an $80,000 car with a myriad of problems and the Dealership nor Genesis Technical Engineers don't have any clue how to fix it. Fortunately, in NC where I live, there are very strong Lemon Laws that address situations like mine. I have filed a Lemon Law complaint thru a local attorney to Genesis Corporate requesting all of my money back. I'll try to keep you guys updated.

Anything yet?
