  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2019 G70 Infotainment Screen Delamination

Is the laminate just an anti-glare protector and/or scratch protector? If so, I imagine peeling the entire thing off is OK and being able to replace it with a custom-sized one (just like the ones they make for cell phones and other handheld devices).
No it’s not a protector and cannot be peeled off. Entire unit needs to be replaced.

No. It's an internal layer of the display.

Delamination on Genesis displays from 2017-19 seems to a common issue with the entire line... my G90 has a similar issue.

Is there still people how as the issue and were not under warranty? Is there a recall yet?

Last week I went out and took my 2019 G70 Design Edition out on a few errands after having been sidelined for a couple of weeks by Covid and I noticed a small triangular discoloration in the upper right-hand corner of my infotainment screen. It has been in the upper 90s here in Michigan recently, but it's not the first time the car has seen those temperatures and with less that 9000 miles I don't expect that sort of problem to occur. I have an appointment with the nearest Genesis service department for next Thursday and I hope that Genesis will replace the screen under the warranty. Has anyone else experienced this sort of problem on a G70? I tried to attach a couple of iPhone pictures of the screen delamination which has begun to spread towards the bottom of the screen since last week, but the files are too large to post...

Enjoy,

If your dealership gives you any pushback, go to the Genesis corporate site, and open a “case”, referencing back to your dealership experience. They will give you a case number, which I have found very useful when arguing with the dealership.

I had a 2018 G90, and started the repair process 5+ years after purchase, so clearly out of warranty. After I raised a ruckus, the dealership and Genesis agreed to provide a free replacement screen (usually over $4k) if I would cover the labor costs ($800).

My 2019 is having the same issue. I just called the local dealer to set up an appointment to try and get it repaired/replaced. The car is still under warranty for about 6 months; I have 21,000 on it.

I will report back to the forum what happens. I live in the Orlando, FL area.Screen.webp

I was near the dealer today so I went in to speak to the Service Department. The lady at the desk said that I need to speak to a Genesis Concierge and unfortunately they aren't in on the weekend. She said that one will call me on Mon or Tue to discuss next steps.

I'll keep you guys posted...

I just heard back from the dealership and have an appointment set for August 28th. I'll let everyone know what they say/do. Hopefully they still have these "old" screens in stock somewhere...

Good luck. For the two issues I've had (so far) with my 2019 G70 (brake vibration and exploding sunroof), Genesis was great at assigning a case number for each issue. That and a couple of bucks will get you a cup of coffee. They proved to be absolutely useless. Case numbers are free, actually fixing a problem costs money.
Now I'm hoping that a delaminating screen won't be issue #3.

Can count me as another. Noticed one spot last year I think but then this year the right side really started bubbling. Was told to bring it in for a quick look. They confirmed it and have the replacement ordered under warranty.

Edit: I did not use concierge, just the normal dealer route.

That's good. With just 27k miles, mine seems like a new car still, but it's three and a half years old, so out of warranty for non-drivetrain issues ☹️

I would double check, pretty sure the screen is covered under the 5 yr warranty.

Update: I was scheduled to go in for an appointment with the screen on August 28th but they called and said that a Genesis tech would not be there on that day and rescheduled me for September 11.

The plot thickens...

What could go wrong...?

Because of the advice of another G70 owner on Reddit I tried calling a different dealership (Central Florida Genesis) that has a 4.7/5.0 on Google ratings but is about 35 miles from me.

Long story short, they asked me to bring it in today. I drove there, pulled into the covered parking area for service and they came out and looked at it. They said "Yep, that's covered." and then immediately ordered the screen and told me that it would be free. What a difference from these Clowns that I've been dealing with at the dealership that is closer to me. They did say that the screens were on back order and that it would probably take about a month to come in. I'm fine with that since it will be covered.

And, I believe they are the first dealership in Central Florida that are actually building a dedicated Genesis building/dealership/service center. The framing is already up and they are supposed to open before Christmas.

If any of you guys/girls live in Central Florida I highly recommend them. It was super clean and the staff was friendly. What a concept.

FWIW, Kia Stingers are seeing the same problem. The difference is, Kia is trying to weasel out by claiming this defect falls under their 3yr/36k warranty for audio and entertainment system. They even go so far as to put up an explicit note on the replacement parts catalog saying it is only covered for the original owner for 3/36 (see below). That said, according to a Kia tech who posted on Stinger FB group, Kia corporate have approved many replacements for these delaminated screen as exceptions for "customer good will".

This argument is a crock of bovine excrement... and Kia knows it, which is why they are replacing them if the customer complain hard enough. The touchscreen is more than just for audio and entertainment. There are HVAC displays and a myriad of vehicular functions & settings that are accessible ONLY through the touchscreen. An incapacitated touchscreen takes out far more than just audio and entertainment. No way on earth would Kia's stance on this hold up to even the slightest scrutiny, much less in a court of law.

Genesis OTOH explicitly covers audio/entertainment system for 5yr/60k, so there is no way dealer service can weasel out of it. If they do, don't let them bamboozle you into believing it's not covered. Thankfully, neither of our G70 or Stinger has this yet, but if it ever happens and the dealership/corporate gives me any lip, somebody is going to have a really really bad day at work.

IMO, this one is destined for a recall. I had the exact same defect - on the same corner - on a '19 Mazda CX-9. Probably the same OEM supplier, with the same QA/QC issue. Mazda covered it under warranty, no questions asked.

Lastly, some owners are saying this defect might be related to heat and high temp, so do what you can to shield the dash from direct sun exposure. All our cars have reflective sun shades, and we religiously put them up every time we park.

Update: Well, I am glad to report that I just got back from Genesis of Central Florida near Clermont and the screen was replaced with a brand new one free of charge under warranty. It took about an hour and a half to complete the job (and three weeks for the parts to come in).

For those of you still under warranty, get this done while you can if your screen is having the same issues.

I'm pretty happy and surprised that things turned out so well (after hearing so many negative stories here). :)
