  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2020 Genesis G90 5.0 V8 Review - Sounds great! Loud, Bold & Luxury Sedan from Genesis.

^ That really is an odd exclusion (can understand omitting the rear screens as people just use their tablets or phablets these days.

Hopefully, the US-spec will get the full digital cluster.

With all respect to Canada, I think it's safe to say this car will need substantial US sales if it is to survive. That's why I don't understand the release schedule.

True that the Canadian market is a minnow next to the US market, but there is still enough similarities btwn the 2 markets where what happens in the Canadian (definitely more so than the Korean) market can be used as a gauge of what may happen for the US market.

As stated before, the reason why the Canadian market gets the F/L G90 earlier is b/c they got the 2019MY earlier due to the delay in launch here arising from the dealership licensing fiasco.

There really weren't sufficent nos. of Genesis dealerships selling the 2019 G90 til March/April - so that's only 4-5 months of sales.

That doesn't exist, strangely enough.

Strange indeed. Why offer it in the K900 and not the flagship of your luxury brand? Pretty much every car I've looked at in this class and price range has this now.

The other item that I fail to understand why Genesis is not even considering or offering is massaging seats. This is available as an option on other brand cars in this class segment.

As you may have noticed on the G90 Genesis does not do options. There is no mix and match. Either it’s included in the trim level or it’s not. Problem is massaging seats would jack up the Ultimate price considerably. Personally I like their method of pricing. No nickel and dimeing like Lexus, etc.

Not sure why that would be the case regarding the massaging seats but I [like you] do appreciate the overall Genesis approach to pricing and options. As I see it, the problem is this. Advanced features [massaging seats, digital instrument cluster, etc] are all but mandatory once you aspire to the high end luxury class. Personally I could do without the seats.

The prevailing fact is most of the potential buyers for the 2020 G90 could probably swing an S 560 if need be. If the Genesis presents an overall better value vs feature package [in our subjective personal views] then we'll buy it. In my case, I remain unconvinced at this point.

Mcc. Your point is taken, sort of. I'm in NJ if that is really relevant. the questions stands, is it a new interior color? One could have simply answered either yes, no, or yes in USA or not. It's not really that difficult a question to answer is it?
The 2020 g90 adds a third color interior which looks like a medium brown. I was hoping the new g90 would be released by now because I really like that new interior color. Unfortunately my 2016 Hyundai Genesis lease ran out and I needed a new car. Moved up to a 2019 G90, blue with beige inside. Blue was hard to find. Still learning all the new toys. Great car so far.

I know its bad form to quote oneself but, in this case, I need to.

Since writing the above I've test driven both a 2017 Mercedes Benz S550 and it's 2018 replacement, the slightly more powerful S560. They are essentially identical aesthetically with the notable differences being the headlights on the 2018. The S Class is a strange animal. While it does sport top notch materials and technology, the overall styling seemed terribly dated. I felt more like I was driving a car built 10 years ago and somehow retrofitted with amazing tech features as opposed to an actual 2018 original design. I realize this is all subjective but I was simply not impressed with the interior of the S Class.

Also, while driving the S560 I couldn't help but notice the instrument cluster periodically displaying a message warning to "reduce engine oil" and wondering what that might ultimately mean. I've heard a few horror stories regarding maintenance of these cars and also noticed many of the ones offered for sale were dealer buybacks from very frustrated customers.

I was also disappointed with the options installed on the cars I drove. Priced at 62K for the 2017 and 72K for the 2018 [each with about 20K miles] neither of these cars had a Heads Up Display or surround view cameras. I laughed inside as the dealer explained features like Lane Keep Assist and Autonomous Emergency Braking to me as if they were exclusive to the S Class, knowing full well that my 2015 Genesis already included every one of these features except the surround cameras. These are available as options but that jacks up the cost even more, assuming you can even find cars in the used segment with them. I also found the control options for the infotainment systems to be less than intuitive.

I felt without a doubt that if I bought either of these cars I would be spending thousands in maintenance within a year or so after the remaining manufacturers warranty expired. As I drove home I felt better than ever about owning my paid for Genesis. I needed this experience to remind me of the facts. Hyundai and Genesis are certainly not perfect but I've had no major problems with my car to date, only a few bad dealership experiences.

I'm happily eating my words and will be taking a closer look at a new 2019 G90, or maybe the 2020 should it ever arrive stateside.

There are a lot of negative comments about the wheels on the 2020 but I like them. They look regal and yet sporty at the same time. I love the new front end. Very cool headlights. I do think I prefer the rear of the previous model though. I love the taillights of the ‘17-‘19.

And too bad the video screens in the back became an option on the Ultimate.

From my experience, the more high end and more tech featured the German cars are, the less reliable they get. A base model compact sedan is the most reliable vehicle the Germans make and then it gets worse with the electronics.

Let's just say the out of warranty repair horror stories are true. My roommate's cousin bought one used and he spent as much on repairs as the cost of the vehicle

Even the new G80 has the surround cameras.

The two of us both own the 2015 DH Genesis, but the new ones have improved the driver assist (the adaptive cruise control is said to be more smooth on the G80). They did a few other small tweaks (the audio system is better on the new G80s for example and they added a door to make the oil changes easier) as well.

Yep - it is risking buying German. I'd say the Germans are lease only machines right now.

There are a few G80 and Genesis issues. The AWD case might be one (I have a post on this). The sunroofs are known to vibrate on these cars. I would recommend everyone change their transmission fluid. The DI engine might have some issues with carbon buildup. However those are present (or worse) on German cars. Apart from the AWD case being a possible future point, we haven't seen many major part failures. No major electrical issues, a historic German weak point.

The 2020s are here in Canada. Not sure about the US though.

I'd wait until they refresh the G80 - it might have later tech.

The wheels are a deal breaker.
That's what I thought at first, but then...they've sorta grown on me. I actually like them now, though I would not like to have to keep them clean. I would definitely seek out low dust brake pads if the car doesn't come with them. The style reminds me of something Mercedes did back in the 70's or early 80's.
I can just see the posts: Will trade my older model wheels for your 2020 wheels and throw in a little cash to sweeten the deal. I don't think there will be any takers.

I have the rear screens and thought I had to have them. I've used them once on a trip to Canada to show a 40's Bogey/Bacall movie to my rear seat passengers. Everyone has a big screen cellphone or a tablet now. Rear seat screens are going the way of CD players and dodo's. Why then charge people for something they might not want?

That's what's frustrating me to no end. Genesis seems to be in no hurry to bring the 2020 G90 to the US market. While I love my current vehicle, I really wanted the Equus at the time. I settled on the G80 because it was a redesign while the Equus was a carryover model. I would classify the G80 as a "sport luxury" car and I ultimately prefer all out luxury over performance oriented vehicles.

Yep. The "super sport cars" from my experience are frustrating to drive because of modern speed limits. So you can't truly enjoy it, except maybe for a couple of seconds every now and then with the high acceleration.

The spyshots of the next generation G80 keep emerging.

The only question is when we will get it - we are looking at 2021, possibly MY2022.

This month at the LA auto show, rumors have it that we will see the production version of the first Genesis CUV, the GV80 announced.

Edit:
Another poster shared this in the GV80 section:

We know as well they managed to get the weight down. The Genesis sedan (what became the G80) was well received except for the fuel economy, which was a function of the weight and the V8 (sadly they seem to be going for a 3.5TT engine over developing a new generation Tau).

It's the way of the world. Eights have become 6's and 6's have become 4's. Throw a turbo or two on a smaller (lighter!) engine and torque and horsepower go up with virtually no loss of mpg.
IMHO naturally aspirated V8 engines have reached their performance limits if they only have DI, VVT. Of course you could put a turbo on a V8 and see a big bump in performance, but then the drivetrain would require a concurrent strength increase and all that adds additional weight. Weight is anathema to modern automotive engineers.

Well folks, I bought a 2018 Mercedes-Benz S450 today. "I know..." but the deal [once negotiated] was simply too good to pass up. Also, this one looked immaculate as compared to the S560 I spent time with over the weekend. I found it at a Jeep dealership of all places. I did my research. The MB dealership right across the street would have wanted 10K more for this car.

I still wish I could have sat in and experienced a 2020 G90 before making my decision but Hyundai doesn't seem to care about that.

There are turbo V8s coming out that have an aggressive attempt at saving weight. A recent example might be the Cadillac CT6-V. The Omega platform which it is based on made some very aggressive efforts at using aluminum with steel to save weight.

It features a 4.2L Twin Turbo V8 engine that delivers 550 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. It is possible, but it would require that Genesis make a performance oriented vehicle.

Will do, positive or negative. I really wanted to see the 2020 G90 up close before making a decision, but ...

On the Cadillac topic... CT6-V as far as i remember is north of 6 digits, so a no-starter. Is CT6 a competitor to G80/G90 at all?
