  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2022 Genesis G70 3.3T takes on Audi S4 and makes it interesting. Drag and Roll

The new G70 is a fast car for sure. The car will be beast with a tuner. However, I was not surprised by how the S4 dusted it in sport+ mode. The S4 is beast in stock mode before tuning it.

The S4 is in a different league that competes with AMG and M series cars. Yet, the G70 is great that is still sorta keeps up with the heavy hitters like the S4 while costing much less.

Absolutely agreed! You hit the points. For the money the G70 is a steal of a deal

The S4 does not compete with M and AMG. That would be the RS5. The S4 and G70 are in the same class. However, you are correct that the S4 costs a fair bit more and the G70 is much different with an ECU tune.

The new S4 is a 4.4 second car. The G70 is 4.5 seconds.

I have gotten 4.4 seconds on my stock G70 with 93 fuel...and mastering LC.

So...something is wrong here. Driver? Elevation? Outside temp? etc, etc.

Well, in that video the S4 smoked the hell out of the G70 in race+ mode with launch control. Like the driver in the video mentioned; all wheel drive and a 3500K rpm launch gave the S4 an clear advantage off the line.

Motortrend got a 4.2 second 0-60 time with an 2018 Audi S4(same engine i believe as the 2021). Those cars are fast as hell; nearly a 3 second range 0-60 car.

I was comparing the S4 to the C-class AMG and M3 cars; not the real beast-like 3 second 0-60 cars in the stables like the M5 and AMG E-class cars the RS5 compete against.

Yep, LC in the G70 is almost no different than just hitting the gas... Though with my ECU tune, my 0-60 is 3.5 - take that S4!!

Hence my statement about the tune giving the G70 a major boost in performance, however APR can tune the crap out of an S4 to put it in the low 3 second range as well.:)

I got a G70 3.3T loaner when my G80 was in the shop.

Still recovering from whiplash.

Just kidding, but I certainly was impressed with the acceleration, handling and overall smooth ride. Usually smaller cars don't have the ride quality of cars with larger wheel-bases. (I was on the fence between the 3.8 and 3.3T versions of the G80, and the dollar differential wasn't a big deal.) I settled with the non-turbo and am pleased with it, and will occasionally put it in sport mode if I go out to the mountains where there's some nice winding roads.

The C63 AMG and M3 are both still a class above the S4; their direct competitor is the RS5 since Audi no longer brings the RS4 stateside. The S4 competes with the M340i and C43 AMG, as does the G70 3.3T. That said, though, I've seen times for the M340 hitting around 3.9s, which is nuts.

Car & Driver has actually clocked the M5 at 2.8s to 60 and the E63S at 3.0; crazy numbers for such large and heavy sedans!

I do think it's legitimate criticism that Genesis is behind the Germans in AWD launch and 1st gear power performances. The G70 doesn't get much 0-60 boost from AWD, yet all German cars get some crazy number improvements from their AWD versions. And the difference between 1st gear power and other gears (at least specifically during launches) is pretty apparent. Honestly, I'd prefer transmission longevity over a stronger 1st gear since I don't go crazy off the line, but it's a legitimate con vs the competition.

I think there is some driver error for sure here. On paper these cars should be neck and neck.
I will say this about the 2022s. There seems to be a larger delay on launch than in my 2020. Tbh. I am really not liking sport+. Normal sport seems more responsive from a standing acceleration. And sport+ doesn’t seem to downshift aggressively on hard rolling acceleration. It is always in a lower gear and try’s to ride it out. Where a quick agressive downshift would be faster imo. Now I only have 350 miles on it so….

Damn, production cars are very very fast now. I remember when I as happy to just have a stock car break into the 5 second 0-60 range. Soon minivans will doing 5 second flat 0-60 times.:)

Yeah, so true.. pretty much every electric car will be under 5 seconds..

I agree with everything you said and will add this message to Genesis (who I have evidence does monitor this forum): "Genesis? Stop goofing around and beefen up the transmission- those 'ease into things' launches are hurting you. And while you're at it, please stop tuning the cars to run so rich so maybe we can start approaching the competition in MPG."

Their test against an M340i.

Again; no surprise that the M340i won. The G70 will lose to a BMW M340i "underrated" engine in stock form every time.

I know the G70 is suppose to "compete" with the M340i on paper, but in the real world not so much in stock form. The G70 is a very nice car, but again not really going to beat a late model M, S, or AMG off the line in stock form.
