4 V8's at Dealer now

I've been utterly disappointed at the poor quality of the 3 Hyundai dealers with whom I've worked here in the western 'burbs of Philly. Made me think of a bad movie.

The one I thought would be bad wasn't horrible - Piazza's place in Pottstown (yes, it's Mike's father's, who's ultra-rich with a ton of dealers out here). They offered me $2K off sticker for a V6/Tech at their month-end. I would've done it except for the color - that Champaigne gold - ughh! :)

I miss Philly cheesesteaks! Your Pottstown reference makes me homesick, though in a month or two, when the temperature here in AZ is still 75 versus 35 in PA, I'll get over it!

FYI, our local dealers (I suspect better service) are still only offering $2k off.

I would suggest to everyone.... wait about 6 or 7 months and there will be huge incentives on the V8 genesis. All Hyundais are sold like that. I bought my 06 Sonata brand new and got about a $5K plus discount about three years ago. V6's Genesis are being discounted here in Fort Worth Texas about 4K with 0.9% APR for 48 months and 1.9% for 60 months. I getting mine sometime next year around year end. Then they will be giving them away. Please chill out and wait.... you will be glad you did.

My wife and i wanted to buy a Hyundai Entourage last summer.

I had a neutral experience with Conicelli Hyundai.

Colonial Hyundai in Downingtown was terrible:
1. The salesman lied about the specifications of the vehicle.
2. They refused to discuss prices, trade in values, or loan interest rates over the phone.
3. The salesman lied about competing products.
4. The minivan had a $7,000 markup on sticker price so they could pretend to offer a great deal with their 30% discount (in fact, the discount plus trade brought the sales price down to $2,000 above listed invoice, which had been my planned bargaining point anyway).
5. They asked to take my keys so they could evaluate my car as a trade, and then fabricated ridiculous delays giving them back so they could continue the aggressive sales pitch.
6. Their finance offers did not have percentage rates listed anywhere, but I had a financial calculator handy so I knew their first offer was at a 13% rate.

My wife and I were so enraged by the sales pitch that we left as soon as possible - which took a while because they kept trying to delay returning my car keys. While we were driving over to the Honda dealership to get the Odyssey, the Colonial Hyundai salesman called one last time with a very competitive offer. But by that point, we were too angry to contemplate buying the Entourage from any dealership. I've cooled off over the intervening year, and would consider buying Hyundai products from some dealership other than Colonial.

I've sold cars before. After seeing how the dealership(s) I worked for were managed, nothing should really surprise me. These people would gouge their grandmothers (again) if they thought they could. I even asked my manager if I could be allowed to sell them "my way", being ethical and offering fair prices. Sure, it'd make me less commission per vehicle but I bet after a couple of months I'd be the top volume seller. To the crooked managers I worked for, it's always been done the "huckster" way and that's the only way it'll ever work.

There, I fixed it for you. We're not all crooked. :)

That said, I am SO excited to hear that there are V8's on the ground!!!!!

Sorry I missed your reply before.

Actually I don't have anything bad to say about your dealership. Two of the Azeras in my signature were purchased there with minimal hassle. Of course, both times the test drives & pricing were done here in Milledgeville but both times the buyer didn't like the colors available here so they bought from your lot. There are advantages to a big inventory! I haven't sold cars in almost 15 years (I own a computer shop now) but I have a good relationship with the Hyundai dealership here.

I've noticed far less of the "carnival" type atmosphere among the Atlanta-area dealerships, most likely because because of sales volume. When 30 cars a month is a big month, they resort to more desperate actions. I'm still good at recognizing "the sell" and take care of it appropriately.

During college twenty years ago, I spent a summer selling Chevrolets for a dealer with the lowest CSI in the region. They earned it. The son of the owner, who managed the place on a day-to-day basis, in the training session for new salesman had this to say: "If you can't f--- your friends and family, then who can you f---?"

The sales manager after he appraised a trade would routinely "misplace" keys so customers couldn't leave.

Most dealers have come a long way since then.

As far as the markups go, I hate them myself, but the MSRP is after all a suggested price. If people think the car is worth more than MSRP, then they'll pay the extra. If they don't, the price will settle to MSRP, and maybe well under MSRP.

In the end, it's all about what the car is worth to people.

Has anyone physically seen any of the V-8's yet?

I spoke with the Fleet Manager at LAX Hyundai and he said the H logo is on the car not the Wing Genesis logo.

I had him walk to the car and verify while I was on the phone with him. He said only thing on the rear is the H logo and Genesis 4.6

I drove one last Friday (9/12) at Garden Grove Hyundai after Jerrad (I believe) posted Thursday night that they had some, sorry for the delay in this post.

No wing badges, still the flying H. They had 4 V-8's, all were Titanium Gray with black interior. 2 had tech packages. They said they were number 1 in V-6 sales in the area which is why they received the first V-8's and that they got ALL the Titanium gray on black because it is the most popular color. The one I drove still had the interior wrapped in plastic, and the styrofoam wrapping still on the wood portion of the steering wheel (so unfortunately didn't get a good feel or look at it.

One thing I was hoping for, based on pictures in the "V-8" brochure (as well as the commercial where they are touting the quiet interior with all the clocks outside the car) was to see a black leather dash in the black interior, but the dash was saddle color just like all the black V6 interiors I have seen.

The leather is definitely smoother and softer, particularly noticeable on the non-perforated portion of the seats. By itself probably not enough difference for me to choose the V8 over the V6. I mean if you are comparing them side by side you can tell, but I don't think there would be any buyers remorse sitting in the V6 interior wishing for the slightly better leather IMO.

On the titanium gray, the chrome side moldings didn't pop for me and were barely noticeable, although I imagine if the car had been showroom ready and not right off the truck, it would have been much better. I'm guessing the dark colors (black and blue) as well as white (if that one ever shows up - more on that later) will have more impact.

The engine is sweet. The uncontrollable grin that showed up on my face when pulling away from the BMW-5 series at a stop light has yet to go away.

As for the white, the dealer guy said the factory has had trouble matching the bumper to the rest of the car and they are trying to work out the kinks. He said they were told that they aren't expecting any until then end of the year or early 2009. I guess time will tell whether or not this is real info, or just another story from another salesman.

As for price, he said when the V-6's first came in they were charging 5K over MSRP (and getting it on some deals), but those markups are gone. He said they are charging 2K "market adjustment" for the V-8's, and to "wait a month" if I wasn't willing to pay that right now.

After seeing the V-8 I am still undecided, trying to weigh the pros and cons of slightly better gas mileage (and along with a slightly "greener" choice) of the V6 along with its 2,000 lesser price (tech package is a must for me) vs. Tau V8, and better leather and knowing I got the top of the line. Could care less about the illuminated step plate, and could give or take the wood trim steering wheel. I can put on my own chrome trim for a couple hundred bucks.

Sounds good! The only reason I was asking if anyone has actually seen the V-8 Genesis is because many dealers inventories now shows up but they don't actually have them after calling many dealers and asking if they actually had them on the lot

What really made me mad was I called 3 different dealers that told me they did in deed have a V-8 Genesis in stock. When I asked about the color they would only say that they weren't sure? I asked well can't you find out? All of them said what is the color your looking for? When I told them everyone said I think that is what we have can you stop by? All were out of state for me and I had no intention of dealing with them anyway. But even the first time this happened I started to smell a mouse. After he said that he had exactly the color and options I wanted I played with him and said great I'll be right there and will be buying tonight. Told them I had no trade and money was no object (big lie.......boy is money a big object for me lol) told them ro clean it up and get ready for a sale. All I got was silence...........and then......well sir I have found out I guess we don't actually have the car. He said come on in though and pre-buy one.

The other two dealers were pretty much the same. I called so many I don't remember which that they were and didn't really care like I said but I wasn't thinking because I could have alerted everyone to this stupid trick!

I think one of the dealers was in Pittsburgh and another all I remember was Ohio and the last one I don't have a clue. Sorry I didn't get all the info but about all I wanted to do was tell them what I thought, hang up, and try another one.

It's almost like they all go to the same class that must be called "how to mis-lead and screw the customer". What a bunch of crap!!!

Well I got the dealing done on my V-8 Genesis w/tech pkg. I chose sterling blue with the cashmere interior. Now the waiting seems even worse now lol!

Went to have my cupholder replaced on my Sonata today...and they have 5 V8's in stock! Drove a Titainium/black w/tech and let me just say....WOW! Definitely a very noticeable difference in power over the V6. Incredibly smooth and strong. Much nicer leather than the V6. For me, not sure if the tech is worth the extra 4K...I'm leaning towards V8 premium+, black or titainium, wings. But as I was leaving, the service guy tells me I should wait for the Coupe. Says he drove a pre-production model and that it was "the bomb". This coming from a guy who just bought a 'Vette ZR1. My confusion continues...

I probably should've just said V8 without tech (duh). By the way, they all seemed to be priced at MSRP...no mark ups that I noticed.

Damn that is not nice for the service guy to say...

Even though it brings back thoughts of waiting for a Genesis Coupe...

I really do not need the four doors...

Again damn that service guy had to say that...

Glad he did

I bought 2 of my current Hyundai's at a store in Carson, CA from their internet manager - fantastic experience!

Bought my Genesis from a Santa Ana dealer and it was not a good experience plus I felt I cheated on my guy in Carson but he didn't have the car I wanted and emotion took over.
He'll sell you anything at fleet price with zero pressure - even a Genesis.
