If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

AC seat finally fixed! With pictures!

Rey -- Did you ever find out how to take the seat back plastic cover off your seat? I have been trying to get the same information, but have not found out from anyone how it comes off. Thanks if you know. Regards, Dan

If you know how to get the seat back plastic cover off, please advise me/us how you do that. I am trying to get plastic seat back cover off my seat, and do not want to damage it. Regards, Dan

Ditto could not figure out how to remove the cover myself and don't want to break any tabs or anything. Any updates on this I am having the same issue?

I have a 2011 3.8. Do all of us have this feature or is it just with cars with the tech package? I bought mine with 34k miles on it and I don't remember my seats being cool. It was also winter time when I got it and I was always using the seat heaters.

I went in to see the service tech and mentioned that the seats do not get very cold. He told me that the seats only pump in the cabins ambient temperature and do not "actively cool".

Kinda disappointed in his response. He basically said there is nothing he can do.

That is partially accurate. They do actively blow air through the seats but it is the air that is blowing out of the vents at the time. It picks up the air from the foot well vent under the seat and blows it through you.

cabin ambient temp != vent air temp

The seats are actively cooled using air from the ventilation system. If you have the AC on and the temp set low, the cooling feature will blow cold air into the seat even if the ambient cabin temp is 90+. The service tech was wrong.

I will have to disagree with you on this; the seat is not cooled with A/C but uses a Peltier cooler setup. The air intake is under the seat and has a white filter on it. (And does not look to be serviceable.) It blows thru the Peltier and into the seat venting. The Peltier is not a high amperage setup and is why there is a small delay before you start to feel the cool. I know this because I had the drivers lower seat cover replaced on my car a few months back. I watched the tech do the whole thing. I also took pictures of the cooling because I thought it was cool that Hyundai went with this type of setup. This picture I linked to shows the top of the cooler, where the air comes out and into the seat.

Interesting. Seems overly complex. I wonder why the seats do not cool when the A/C is not on.

There are many times where I want the windows/sunroof open, yet want the seat cooled from sitting in the sun. The seats won't cool without the A/C on.

They DO cool when the AC is not on. It's a completely independent system.

I've done the windows open with seat cooler on many times.

Hmm. Either mine is broken, or 10 minutes isn't long enough for them to cool. Though I do feel the cooling effect within a minute when the AC is on.

I'll have to try it again.

Anyone find an easy way of removing the back cover off the seat? I have tried and tried but it won't give and do not want to take a chance of breaking anything.

Any update on the back of the seat removal or other fixes?

Never pulled the back off of my seat, but I fixed mine by changing the filter in the bottom of the seat.

At 65k it was completely plugged and letting very little air through:

Simply move the seat forward, get in the backseat, reach under the seat until you feel it, twist and remove. Replacements are about $45 at the dealer.

Here is an interesting tidbit, there is no mention of this filter in the owner's manual, factory service manual or service interval card. It is also not in Hyundai's GDS, which means your average technician is also unaware of it's existence. In fact the only place it can be found is in the exploded diagrams the parts department has.

5 minute fix, my A/C seat works better than even when I picked up the car at 35k.

That is awesome! When I was watching my repair that did not look to be a serviceable item. Do you have the part number for that filter?
