  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Aftermarket Subs in Genesis?

Has anyone tested to see if removing the factory sub makes a difference in how the aftermarket sub sounds?

Im gonna be adding a sub soon and want to know if it makes a diff.

Thanks

UPDATE:

It does.

This morning I removed the rear seat and package tray trim. I removed the subwoofer and reinstalled everything.

Please note that the most difficult part was getting the package tray to interlock back with the rear quarter trim. (C-pillar)

After installation I tested it with the pass-thru closed and open. It is noticeably louder. Sound comes off the rear glass and spreads through the cabin, as it was intended. There was a bit of rattle due to pressure waves, so I removed everything again and added a couple 2"x2"x5" blocks of CCF (closed cell foam) Reinstalled and everything sounded nice and tight.

Total time for R&I x2 was 2 hours. Worth it? Maybe. Ill have to see how I like it over time. Louder, YES.

Sweet!! I kinda figured it would help. Gonna pull that factory sub and sound deaden the rear deck. :)

Thanks for the update.

I started my install last night. Im gonna be running a JBL MS-A5001 mono block amp (fits perfectly in the ski pass through) and a Image Dynamics IDQ 12V3 D4. I removed the rear seats, wired up and mounted the amp and removed the factory sub last night. Wasnt as hard as i thought it would be. :)

QUESTION: The connector that went to the factory sub has 4 wires (black, yellow, brown and tan) did anyone tap these for their input signal? If not, what did y'all use for signal input?

Thanks,

I tied into the sub signal at the amplifier as opposed to at the sub.

Thats a nice sub, when I upgrade my Type-Rs I will be going back to ID.

This is the least power hungry sub i have right now. My IDMAX and Morel Ultimo require around 1000W to get going good. I was determined to minimize this install with a 1 cuft sealed box and a small 500W amp. I hope to be finished real soon. Cant wait to hear this lexicon system with some real low end bump. :)

Well, I officially had enough of the factory sub woofer in my car. So, I got 2 JL Audio 10W0v3 subs while they were on sale buy one get one half off. I also bought a JL Audio XD600/1 to drive them. I wasn't looking for a large amount of bass. However, the factory sub just isn't getting it done for me.

I looked for awhile at the JL Audio PowerWedge with the 10s but I didn't like the fit in the trunk. I specifically wanted something that was fitted for the space just behind the rear seat and not be so large as to cover the spare tire access hatch. So, I decided instead to custom build my box to fit in the trunk but allow the spare tire to be accessed without taking the sub box out.

I finished building the speaker box for the 10s right before I had to leave out of town. I will be installing the speakers and amplifier as soon as I get back home from Canada! And probably posting pictures. I like pictures! :D

@scottdk

Can you post some pics? I'm not seeing this on your YouTube channel either.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff - I'm not sure which post of mine you are referring to. I went back 7 pages, but didn't see anything I wrote that you might be responding to. What pics are you referring to?
