  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

RE: TESLA .........NEW STUDY on EV's starting to reveal the truth. After this was revealed...... a bunch of sites were claiming it was B.S.. hmmmmm..

According to the study directed by Christoph Buchal of the University of Cologne, published by the Ifo-Institute in Munich last week, electric vehicles have "significantly higher CO2 emissions than diesel cars." That is due to the significant amount of energy used in the mining and processing of lithium, cobalt, and manganese, which are critical raw materials for the production of electric car batteries.

Funny because I've been touting that information for a while because of Eco-Douche Prius drivers. So not exactly a new study per-se, but I thought it would be better known by now

Yeah I mean.. should'nt this stuff be out all over the place in peoples faces?? There should be studies constantly updated so we can get to the truth... Right now we are full steam ahead that EV's are going to save everything... and ...so be it.... but the data has to back it up.

Probably because for every study, you could find another one saying that they were wrong. Example:
New study claiming electric cars are dirtier than diesel debunked - Electrek

Now I’m not supporting or disproving either theory, just stating that it’s not easy to find the absolute truth when there’s so much info out there. Like a restaurant with too many menu items, it can be overwhelming

Right..... but again. the FIRST thing I do when I see some "site" with a hard-on to jump on a study...... is I check who the guy is.. so here we have. Good ol' "Fred Lambert"...... who is an EV - SJW with an EV tattoo on his forehead...... and that is fine but I bet the German Scientist would possibly silence him if they were in the same room and the data was shown to everybody's faces.. and the CORRECT points were referenced. The EV-SJW guy goes on and on about the batteries being recycled... but as far as I can tell... that study was NOT focused on anything to do with that.... but STRICTLY the CO2 and other pollution which enters the atmosphere during the mining operations for battery production.

It's just like my friends who always RUN to "Google" and "Snopes" and "Factcheck" etc.... they use those as their bible.. and I quickly point out these "individuals" doing the "fact checking"..and I show them their twitter accounts.. and 100% of the time. it's an SJW that has like.. zero cred, which should INCLUDE non-partisan..... It's just a "contributor" who has an opinion and it's a one way opinion so I could never trust them. LOL

This got way off track, especially with you throwing SJW out there like 5 times. Regardless we should all support innovation and competition because that breeds better cars for everyone. Without Prius drivers, we might not have Tesla’s and without Tesla’s who knows what’s coming down the line next we would miss out on.

Yeah of course..... . but you have to know all this evaluation is fair. And it did'nt get anywhere near "off track".. You have to check where this evaluation is coming from and if there is any heavy bias. The guy lives and breathes EV's.. which I AM TOTALLY FOR THAT.. IF.. it is the right way.. and I still don't know and cannot trust him to lead me in the right direction.

As mentioned, the above study was touted back in the Prius days.
Here's the deal, doesn't matter what the manufacturer had to do to manufacture the car, once you own it, you're contributing ZERO emissions which is what is important in the long run. You could drive a million miles and not contribute any CO2 which is the point of EV.
I want a Plug-In Hybrid as my next vehicle. I like the engine and exhaust sound too much to go EV cold turkey!

I want an EV because I want endless low end torque haha. But something has to be done about the sound experience for pure EVs, that’s holding me back and will continue to. A hybrid does sound tempting but now everything I own in the future has to be better than the G70, which is a high bar

Oh my the new vette looks dead sexy. 500 hp/tq, mid-engine, rwd, dct, light weight, 0-60 sub 3 seconds for under $60k.

Chevy / Corvette team just dropped the mic on the entire auto industry.

Remember, Tesla model 3 starts at $35k...but they really cost about $20k more. Good luck ever seeing a C8 starting with a "6".

I'm with ya. The new Corvette is actually looking pretty dang good. I think they finally got rid of the old pushrod engine too? I haven't looked up much info on it..

I was actually thinking more highlighter yellow or green so it pops. Just dont want it to look too much like a clown car. Ill probably end up blacking it all out in the end.

I think you should go with black, and a tiny bit of yellow. Black, gray, and yellow work really well together IMO. Just don't overdo it. I'd only put some yellow around the sideskirts and front and rear bumpers, but only one small line across it all. The rest i'd put black accents. Just my opinion. Either way, the S4 is a good looking car.

The Corvette will definitely be expensive with options. It's great you can get the performance of a V8 mid engine car at base for about $60k, but if you want some comfort or tech features it'll easily balloon in price. I see people comparing it to the Supra's price of $50-54k, but the Supra has a ton of options standard or not much more expensive at $54k fully loaded. Whereas decently optioned I can see the C8 hitting $70k easy.

One thing driving me away from the C8 would be the reliability. A new mid engined platform with a new transmission, revised engine, new infotainment, and new tech features all made by Chevy is begging for problems for the first year lol. Plus there were those fires that happened earlier in the year with test cars.

Well, I was wrong about the engine in my previous post (ie no longer being a pushrod v8). Looks like it's the essentially the same as the previous LT1 (like you implied). A nicer intake manifold and exhaust manifold, plus a slightly more aggressive camshaft seems to make the increase in power. They also have a dry sump multi oil pump as standard.

I don't know about you, but I think the new DCT they're using will make the purists super pissed; but maybe when they see and feel how much faster it is they'll quit whining.

Either way, definitely not a luxury sport coupe; rather a beast of a track monster. Hopefully when I'm done with my upgrades (incl bigger turbos) I can beat a stock C8 in the 1/4 mile. Maybe. Haha. Less than 3 second 0-60 ain't no slouch! I bet that thing is light.

Is that a GM product or some other??

I haven't been this impressed with a car reveal since the G70. Holy smokes! I'm rethinking my idea of getting a ND2 for my weekend car now. The front lift feature is amazing and something that will keep me sane driving a low car. This is the performance bargain of the century and just laughs at the cayman/supra/M2 that are fighting for a place in the 50-70k sports car segment.

I'm going to monitor and see how they fare until it is into its second year of production for quality issues, but since the base trim doesn't have a gimped engine/tranny I don't see why I would need to option it out much for a weekend car. The front lift feature, HUD, and heated/cooled seats are all I ask.

Yep I have an 2010 Maxima that I was going to replace with a G70. But now I'm considering keeping the Maxi as it's fully paid for and invest in a Vette or an ND2 as my daily commuter and weekend canyon carver.

.

I am sure this Corvette will drive incredibly well..... probably more like a 911 than a Vette. However the looks are just strange IMO. I know they had to make alterations due to engineering, but It does'nt look like it has classic Vette lines. The front looks like a hybrid of an NSX and a Pontiac Fiero.. and the rear just looks like a modified Camaro.

The C7 was just a masterpiece IMO , with regards to design. It's all hunched back with the long front end.. , short front overhang and short rear end. The long long front end and hood are trademark classic Vette. I know that jives with the front engine.. but It has always given a hint of "hot rod" that set's it apart from the world and makes it American. Even the interior is much nicer in the C7.

Definitely a much different looking beast. But then, it kind of has to for that mid engine. Even so, I agree with what you're saying.

I for one am glad they FINALLY got away from using leaf springs. Even though the most recent transverse composite leaf spring was able to do plenty of awesome things, it's still not as capable as a coil spring. I'm interested to see how it stacks up against the competition in real world tests.
