I agree with your assumptions. Not only the price difference but also I think the fact that Alex considers the C43 a performance spec causes him not to compare it to the G70. Even if the 3.3T has similar engine specs, it's still all a G70 meant for the same usage as other G70s. In comparison, the C43 has a different intent than the C300 since the tuning is much more aggressive with a C+ in ride quality vs the G70's A-. It also has the body kit and stuff he mentions.AoA C43 review.
He clocked it at 4.0 seconds. I thought it was a good review. The G70 and C43 are at the bottom of the list for rear leg and head room in this segment. The G70 wasn't listed as a direct competitor at the end comparison due to price point I'm guessing. I'm assuming it's a fair amount more in the US like in Canada. Probably similar to the m340i which I priced out the other day trying to match options as close as possible, and it was significantly higher.
AoA C43 review.

I seriously considered a slightly used c43 but they are hard to find with the glorious AMG Performance exhaust and the cooled seats. It's a shame he did not show how good the exhaust sounds. He's a bit to factual, at some point I thought he was demonstrating a kitchen appliance...AoA C43 review.

Yeah, a good review turned bad due to the sound quality. I've yet to see the G70 lose in any comparison test when going head to head. This is awesome!
G70 vs M340i - Good review with terrible sound.
Will it be FWD based like the TLX?Not sure if it's covered in this forum already, but Acura finally pulled its thumb out of its ass and is planning a legit C43/G70 competitor with this Type-S:
Like The Type S Concept? Acura Has Good News
Still only a concept but looks much better than the current TLX.

The Acura TLX should get a full redesign reveal this year. Rumors say it'll have a twin turbo V6 with maybe ~400 HP for a Type S spec, and a more rear-biased AWD system. The TLX is a mid-sized sedan (191" long, which is the same as the Stinger) with a traverse oriented engine and a 60/40 weight distribution, so dynamically it's not a similar competitor to the G70. However, Acura's SH-AWD system is probably on the same level as Audi's Quattro system, with it being able to send almost if not fully 100% power to different side wheels in corners. So it's like another Audi choice in the price range.
Some screenshots below. The redesign seems to look a ton like the ILX:
Next-Gen Acura MDX, TLX Leaked by RDX’s Infotainment System - MotorTrend
I mentioned the new TLX a few pages earlier.
I think what will be strong with the TLX will be 1) AWD, 2) space due to its bigger dimensions, and 3) value. For value, the RDX in comparison is really solid among compact crossovers. I don't even mean in the "cheaper than the Germans" sort of value but more like Genesis' "just as good for a lower price" value. It's solid in performance and luxury. The interior even has matte wood, and you'd be surprised at how much the competitors cheap out in the compact crossover segment.
A sorta X factor is that the TLX Type S could also have good performance out of its engine. We know it's a twin turbo V6, but there's a lot of variance among TTV6 engines that I don't fully understand. We have a solid engine like the G70's that has 365 HP (rated at that, at least), and then there are other TTV6's like the Audi RS5's with 444 HP and then the Quadrifoglio's Ferrari-based engine with 505 HP.
