  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

In the LCD settings pages you can set Ambient Light to off, on and Auto.

I set to on, and the 'U' shaped bar illuminates. Set to off, and it switches off. When I set to Auto, it stays off. What happens if I set to Auto?

The book of words states,

• Auto : The ambient light of interior will turn automatically on or off.

But when?

when you thinking about it

it will turn on

and when you not thinking about it

it will stay off

We don't have the overhead "U" light in NA, but I suspect that the auto setting makes it turn on when you unlock or open the door - but I never checked this setting out.

In auto, my footwell lights turn on when the car is in park, and turn off when I shift it out of park.

1st post here, but I've been reading for awhile now. We are looking at 2016 Genesis 5.0 for my wife, and I'm curious as to what ambient lights the car does have here in the US. Can anyone shed some light (pun intended) on how the interior looks at night while driving? Any LED lighting strips in the dash/doors? Door handles? Footwells? Map pockets? etc?

Thank you!

Welcome aboard ScottMZ3...

All the door handles on the inside of the car are lit. As noted above when you place the car in park the footwells are lit. There is a light inside the center console that stays on the whole time your lights are on. You have two single beam lights above your head in the center and each vanity mirror in the visors when you open them has lights as well. There are also two lights in the rear seat, one above each door. The 5.0 Ultimate also has the Genesis name plate light up in the area between the door and the two front seats. You also have the puddle lamps on the mirrors.

Thank you!! What is this "U" shaped bar that was mentioned on non US cars? Any pics? Can it be retrofitted?

It's a subtle low-glow (not bright) strip, about 1 cm wide that is 'U' shaped and wraps around the upper switch cluster in the roof. It gives a low bluish glow around the front part of the cabin. I have it set to 'on', so it is on all the time. I do like the effect. It's no where near bright enough to be distracting.

I have no idea if it can be retrofitted.

I think I found a photo of the U shape piece available outside the US:

And in this photo you can kinda see how the white strip is missing from around the US version:

I bet it could be swapped out!

And it shows the nice velour headliner and 3D Nav maps (perspective view vs our top down view) they get too!

We have a nicer rear view mirror (Google voice search if Bluelink subscription is activated, programmable buttons for garage door, outside lights, gate, etc.), so not a total loss!

True - but they also get the 19 inch wheels, soft close doors, reclining rear seats and rear seat DIS controls too. But no V8, if you were so inclined...

Soft close doors would be real nice to have. I haven't seen the European pricing, but would have to imagine it's more.

I love the soft door closing. Sorry, just teasing you now. :)

I use it all the time, even though the doors shut very easily anyway.

You do get an extra button on the smart key. We have 3 buttons. You get a Panic button. Why do you need this?

We don't. I've never used it or heard of anyone having the need to. It's common amongst basically all new cars in the US though.

I think the reasoning behind having it is if you are walking to your car at night and mugger comes up to you, you can sound the alarm manually.

It can also help find your car if you forget exactly where you parked. :-)

The reviewer on youtube said like 63k+ euros so I'll keep my doors non soft closing lol

BTW - I checked mine and there is no Ambient Light setting in the LCD settings pages in the instrument cluster.

If the car is in the garage or driveway and you have a breakin, you can also use the horn as a deterrent.
