Any interest in DIY Transmission flush?

I am about ready to do mine, but I'm looking for that 'filler adapter tube thing'....any clue where to get one?

I'd rather spend just a little more for the ZF pan. The ones on Amazon look like they've got some quality issues. To each their own.

I'm not sure I know what you're talking about. Is it for filling the pan with fluid once you have it replaced? Since I don't have a lift yet I was just going to buy the supplies and pay my mechanic the $90 to do it for me.
 
If you look at the videos on YouTube as to how to do this, there's no conventional way to "fill" the tranny. It has to be done from underneath when it's up on the lift. This is for the Coupe but the procedure is the same. Pay close attention to the 'adapter filler tube' or "filler tube adapater"..

I don't think the pan for the coupe is the same as for the first gen V8. It looks like the fill hole is on the side. Either that or the guy in the video is filling through the drain tube. I found this as an option for filling the pan.

I just used a fluid lube pump and put it in the bottle of new trans fluid and pumped it into the fill hole on the side

Some other thoughts to keep in mind.

Suctioning (or draining) the old fluid out and measuring the quantity will give you a ''rough''idea of actual pan capacity.

However if you only change this, you are only diluting total fluid capacity. After all, you have another 40% of existing fluid in the torque converter itself, correct ?

(I had to deal with this years ago when I burned my fluid in an older 1st gen 4 cyl Toyota Camry which I had driven overloaded to Florida with a roof top carrier) I actually 1/2 drained burned black fluid five times but restored the fluid condition and saved the automatic. (It never failed) The ''trick'' is immediate fluid and possibly fluid filter change. American generally cars take paper filtration. Japanese cars take metal SCREENS. I also upgraded the older factory fluid to the the newer Mercon V synthetic (for that vehicle).

No harm will come to the transmission, but understand what is taking place. A COMPLETE change would have to include a flush or draining the torque converter either by drilling a 1/8'' hole in the outermost part and then after drain, cleaning the area thoroughly, then plugging the hole with a steel 1/8'' rivet with epoxy. (Yes I have done it and seen it done in automatic transmission shops) Far better is if the manufacturer has already tapped a male drain plug in the torque converter like US cars in the 60's.

Also, please tell me why any dozen of local auto transmission shops in any city cannot do this, either using the factory Hyundai fluid or the fluid that they would use which (trust me) is properly researched. I talked with a local Aamco shop owner. All these transmissions are essentially swapped out when they have more serious problems and go either to Hyundai or a Hyundai authorized/dedicated rebuilder. The Aamco shop owner was able to purchase the same rebuilt transmissions that the stealerships would access and sell it piecemeal or installed and ready to go for LESS than the dealership.
 
If you don't mind not using ZF fluid, you can get LiquiMoly from RockAuto.com for $5.84 a liter and PartsGeek.com has the filter from ZF for $67.58. You may still need to get a gasket, but that's the cheapest price I've found for the parts.

Should have mentioned I have the V6 and need the Aisin NWS-9538 fluid. Does anyone know of a non OEM replacement?

Did some research yesterday and by way of the Toyota Fluid equivalent (JWS3324) and found a great reference sheet for all manufacturers. Hyundai part number is 00232-19016 and costs around $8.00. The fourth PDF in this link "Automatic Transmission Fluid Type WS (ATF-WS) JWS-3324" confirms the cross reference. RockAuto has the AISIN ATF-0T4 for $5.74.

The filler adapter rod is made by Assenmacher Tools (AST). Couldn't find the exact one he used (11 ATF 105), closest they sell has markings (17 ATF 105) which is for Audi/VW and Minis with the Aisin transmission. M10x1.0 thread. Not sure what the first number means.

Watch when he pumps the fluid in, he doesn't thread it into the pan but just inserts it. So using the part number listed above may not be a problem. ATF105

I'd like to clarify that the Genesis Coupe trans pan and the Sedan pan don't have the same part number. Not sure if my statement above about the adapter fitting into the hole is accurate.
 
Alright guys thanks for the feedback. I will write it up since it sounds like at least 1 or two people will find some use for it. Give me a day or two so I can make sure I have as much details as possible. Thanks again for your feedback guys.
