Miles driven? Build date?
The Kia and G70 forums have soooo many possible sources suggested and no one seems to have established the, or a, cause. Or even if the numerous reports are the same origin. Different locations, it seems. And if there is a dealer fix that has been durable I have not seen it.
Much like the G70 owners, there have been a few
Stingers with theories here and there. I would hope that a resolution would be a "one size fits most" but I know there will be some cases that are resolved differently. One
Stinger owner found reprieve by backing out the screws in one of the grab handles. Another owner, like a G70 owner here, found resolution by having the entire sunroof assembly replaced and still says it is good to this day, about 8 months later. I don't think the solution for all is a sunroof replacement.
One slight glimmer at least on the Kia front is an owner from Texas stated his dealer said they heard a resolution is in the works for the
Stinger with a TSB to follow, but no ETA given. Without knowing anything further, I would not doubt the possibility that the initial TSB would involve a partial headliner drop and retorque of the frame bolts as I have seen being the case in numerous other cars with this issue. There was some form of TSB in Australia to add silicone to mounting points that were lacking a sealant there, so to say the least, Kia (and therefore Hyundai/Genesis) has acknowledged that the noises are not acceptable and should be fixed through the issuance of that TSB. I should note that anyone who commented about having this silicone fix done found zero resolution with the noises.
I'm not sure about you guys, but one thing that happens with the
Stinger is during engine startup, you can hear a click/pop when the engine vibrates when starting which sounds to be the same/similar noise that we get when driving. I recently found if I press up on the headliner just to the right of the sunroof on the passenger side where the frame is located, I get a clicking noise. I found if I press up there with reasonable force during the engine start, I don't get that noise. I think my noises come from that area which is not too far from where some of you have found when pressing the headliner.
See video here for noises when pressing the headliner:
