  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

What’s that adhesive for you think??

The only thing it looks to be doing is holding on the visor mount. As to the rest of it I have no idea.

Here's a picture I took previously of the epicenter of the sound in my car. The hole you see if the forward grab handle mount. The other one is out of the picture. I'm trying to match this up to the picture and there's definitely a glob of adhesive in that ridge, both visible in the picture and that I managed to scrape out after removing the weatherstripping.

The more I see, the more convinced I am that it's the adhesive cracking in the heat.

I'm still throwing my money on adhesive, especially how its laid out in those pictures. The only reason I mention the grab handle is because (in my car anyway), the sound seems to be localized right on the little ridge in the headliner right in front of the grab handle.

so I was informed today that there is a known issue with the G80s and that bead of silicone causing a popping/clicking sound, seems the design transferred to the G70 as well.

appears to have been around since 2015, so one would think it would have been addressed by now. There is even a service TSB on it for the G80 according to my SA.

Thanks for the interior pictures. A lot going on around the sunroof. Seems Genesis would have figured out the problem and have a fix by now. I’d be scared shixless to have a dealer disassemble all that for fear after reassembly the issue would be worse. If the headliner cannot be removed without removing glass then being able to drive the car with the headline out probably is not practical. I’ve owned multiple cars with sunroofs and none of them have made any noises around the headliner. Odd Genesis doesn’t know a fix.

It took all damn day and about 10 phone calls before someone actually answered and stopped forwarding to a voicemail, but I was told that they were waiting for the grab handle assembly to arrive and that's why I haven't had my car for almost 2 weeks now. This is after calling for numerous days and being promised someone will call me back when they never do.

In reality, this is probably a complete waste of time, because after looking at those pictures posted, I'm more convinced than ever that this noise is due to the adhesive. What noise would the grab handle assembly be making when it gets hot out? It makes no sense.

I'm getting very fed up with the dealer and this whole situation. I love my car, but despite the branding, you never forget that you really just bought a Hyundai. If they want to compete with Mercedes and BMW, they need to do a whole lot better than this.

Agreed. They don't seem quite ready for prime time, as they say. I've been waiting since February for my "free" bottle of touchup paint. Every time I check with the parts guy, he says it's not available yet. I don't know if this is because it's the Black Forest green or what, but that seems kinda crazy.

I mean, the paint has to exist. I can't imagine why it would take SIX months to get some paint...

Perhaps ask @GarnetTy1473 or @Draco-REX and see if they can get ahold of it more effectively than your local dealer?

It looks like the paint code is E5E. If that's the case, it isn't available yet. Yes, the paint does exist, but it exists in Korea. HMA/GMA has to contract with a paint company in the US to make the paint pens. Whether it's GMA or the paint pen company that's dragging their feet, I can't say, but other colors are available.

Thanks so much. At least that agrees with what my parts guy told me. I guess that's the downside to having a "limited production" color. I don't need it yet, but hopefully the pen will become available before too long.

Nope. Not available yet. They have pricing set up, so it looks like it should be available soon.

Wow, what a freaking mess! An entire interior gutted to "try" to fix a rattle. I'm going to show my Hyundai dealer this thread when I go in for a brake rotor issue. Yep, 1,800 miles on the car and the the vibration through the brakes at speeds higher than 50 is over the top. Really bad! It is most definitely one or more warped rotors, but not likely done at the factory. More likely (as I've learned in another G80 thread), apparently if wheel locks are installed at port of entry and over-torqued, the rotors can warp. Are you kidding me? The car is only 4 months old with only 1,800 miles on it and I have not one, but TWO issues. Headliner rattle and brake vibration. This vibration started in the second month of ownership with maybe 600 miles on the car. If I knew that I would ha e these issues I would have never bought this car.

Not throwing a wrench in this thread, but what started as a headliner sunroof rattle issue has morphed into a paint bottle issue and warped brake rotors now. I’ve been on forums where moderators jump in when topics get too far into left field from the intent. I love reading all post, respect all opinions and appreciate all posts for it makes me smarter when my purchase times comes. Just making a statement, and yes it’s off topic...sort of.

I get your point. I mentioned the inability to get touch up paint only as another example of Genesis/Hyundai, and their service departments, seeming to not be quite ready for the various things that come up once you release a new vehicle to production.

I have been following this thread for a few months now to see if anyone was actually able to find the solution to this issue. Based on what I'm reading, we are dealing with multiple noise issues (e.g. popping, rattles) coming from different areas. Furthermore, some people are having this noise issue during hot days or cold days. For me, I was having this popping noise coming from my sun visor area during a hot day. Whenever I drive over uneven road, I would hear this "popping noise" coming from both the passenger and driver side of the vehicle. I would also be able to recreate this noise by pushing up my sun visor area. But once the car is in the shade or it cools down, I wouldn't hear this noise anymore.

I brought in my vehicle for service last week to get this looked at while getting my second scheduled maintenance. I didn't have much hope on dealership to fix this issue because it's hard to reproduce unless the weather is hot or it's a sunny day. When I got my car back, the dealership told me they were able to look after this matter because they were aware of this issue. Here are some details I got from my service report:

Cause - Insufficient clearance between sheet metal and headliner
Correction - Removed head lining and insulated the area believed to be causing the creak.

Now, I have yet to hear this noise after getting it serviced. However, the weather here hasn't been that hot lately which might also be the reason why I haven't heard any noise. I will try to stay hopeful and think the issue has been resolved for now...

I know many of you are having similar if not same issue as me. Since everyone has been contributing to this thread, I thought I should do the same. Good luck to all of you and I'll try to give everyone an update if I hear the noise again!

Now, on to getting my steering wheel noise fixed. Yay?
