If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

Dealership number two cancelled my appointment and wants to reschedule because they told me the wrong time. Talking to the service manager though I was told “chattering and noise in the sunroof are normal” and he basically told me they’re not going to fix anything.
Wow that is ridiculous. That is not how a customer who spent $45k+ on a car should be treated. Not to mention noise coming from a sunroof isn’t normal by any means. Does he think Hyundai engineered the sunroof to make annoying clunking sounds? (Rhetorical question)

These are the reasons why I’m leaning towards ditching this car and going to a manufacturer that actually cares about their customers. All of my dealership dealings have been horrendous like the ones you’ve been speaking of and it just makes me wanna get a BMW.

My friend has an 8 year old Lexus GS that is silent on the inside. I’m definitely checking them out or another brand because Hyundai/Kia/Genesis isn’t getting another dollar from me if this is his they are going to treat a car with a $53k sticker.

I own a 2019 3.3T G70 Sport Advanced. Bought it certified used. i have brought it in 3 times now for the headliner rattle. 1st time we couldnt replicate it even with me in the car. Then it got noticeably worse. The service advisor at my Genesis (Hyundai) dealer siad bring it in anytime its doing it and well listen and get it fixed. Brought it in for oil change and told them about it. they said there is a bulletin out and they will put in some foam to fix it. tech drove it said its "not making noise" I drove it......NO different still making noise. (next time I will drive it with the tech in the car and the advisor in the car with me )

On top of that the tech messed up the headliner with a couple cuts and left a plastic clip off my mirror, but I'm told by the service manager they will fix this. NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL.

Will update yall as we move on in this saga

Made appt last week to get brake recalled and mentioned the new sunroof warranty and told service person about my sunroof getting stuck and they said it should be covered under new revised warranty. I had feeling it was too good to be true. Sure enough, they called and said that it only covers the broken glass if sunroof explode, nit the mechanical freeze up stuff so I'm out $70 "diagnosis" fee. I did complain that the service person who made my appointment said it should be covered under warranty and even had it shown on my appointment paperwork. He said he'll see if they can wave it.

Man, I hope it isn't a common problem. Best of luck with it getting fixed properly. On a brand new car, they should make it right for you, even if it requires a new headliner. Unfortunately, these are the kinds of annoying little problems that can show up on a new model.
From three years ago, first page of this thread. Canadian customer started thread since they had cars before U. S.

hey, when they replaced my sunroof, they bent the headliner so that it created a 1/4 inch gap between the headliner B-pillar portion and the actual top of the B-pillar trim. I just don't want them pulling out my rear glass to replace this thing and screwing even more stuff up, so I haven't ever complained. They also got smudgy grease marks all over the headliner (I made them get a detail guy to fix all that/clean it) and clearly rested the headliner on my hood, because when they dragged the headliner off my hood to put it back in, they scratched the crap out of my hood. Like all over the driver side. Lol. So you can see why I don't want them pulling out the glass and replacing the bent headliner. Sunroof fix has been great, so just leaving well enough alone.

I am in the process of purchasing a G70 3.3 sport, anyone else having these issues or concerns with the headliner and not be able to get any help? I know it's been a while since someone has complained as last reply was in August. Just curious.
I would say its enough of an issue to consider another brand. I wanted this car so bad when it first came out and loved it the first 5k or so but after the sunroof/headliner issue (creaking) at low speeds over any kind of rough surface and even just coming to a stop I would not purchase again. I have the 3.3t Elite edition and have been to the dealer 3 times for repair and they still cannot get it right/fixed. For a 47k car to be a rattle box after that short of time is just sad. I have have driver a variety of brands BMW, Acura, Nissan, Hyundai, Volvo and nothing has ever been as bad as this noise. It will haunt you from the moment it starts and the dealers just cannot get a handle on the repair. Good luck with your car search and purchase.

Yeah, I know how that goes - I had the same steady erosion of joy from my GTI due to continuing issues, especially creaks and rattles, that led me to sell after 8 months or so. And my G70 is sort of doing the same thing, especially when I have to visit the GODDAMN dealer. That word needs to always be in caps when preceding or modifying the noun 'dealer.' Dealer is the biggest issue, car is the second biggest issue.

Genesis is killing it with design, etc., but failing SO HARD with dealers and servicing. They are going to get a lot of conquest buyers, and then they will lose at least half if not 70% because of horrible dealer service. Eg., decidedly non-luxury experience waiting in line behind 5 junker elantras, and nobody talking to you for 20 minutes.

Also, headliner needs to be replaced at that point. Real issues with the fastener design, and the design of the sunroof, and poor R&D on the adhesives used to affix the sunroof. Teething issues, I guess, but I hope it's not indicative of shite-hole executive interference with key engineering choices to save half a penny on each car, a la the Domestics' final products.

IMO, it seems like it has mostly been resolved for 21, 22 moving forward? I too have not hear much from the 21 folks on this topic.

I have a call with a case manager about my car tomorrow... I’m so done with all of this and I’m so done with Genesis as a brand. I should not have headliner squeaking, sunroof rattle, climate control rattle, and other various issues on a $53,000 car. Once I get this resolved or sell the car for a better brand, I will be done with the Korean brands for life. This is my third Kia/Hyundai/Genesis and I’m not buying any more. Already looking at a Volvo S60.

That's a shame about the rattles. I deal with the headliner noise too when temps are in the 80s here.
Beware, I sold my last (F30) BMW because of all the squeaks and creaks from all over the interior. Hated it.
The S60 is a nice car and was on my shortlist, but we have a local mechanic who specializes in Volvos and he's plenty busy, so....

Is the case manager from Genesis corporate?

I had mine in today for oil change and I have a slight noise from the sunroof, I mentioned the recent TSB and they said the tech followed the procedure in the TSB and with pressure above sun visors it didn't change, thus they just lubricated the sunroof again and didn't put the pads in. Ugh. Not sure how that means they followed the procedure in the TSB. I told the service advisor and she said she would note to have it done next time its in for an oil change - and the rate I'm driving it that will be this fall/winter!

Not a service advisor fault, just a typical tech not wanting to go above/beyond the simple stuff.

They did also note that the next step was to remove the headliner and inspect/replace.

Where you located. Want my dealer to hear this “next step”

I rented a "premium luxury car" when I went to California right before COVID with plans to drive down the PCH. I figured I would get a 3-series or a C-class, but instead I got a Volvo S60 T6. I was a little disappointed because I was hoping for something a little sportier, but I actually really liked that car. It was indeed not as sporty as some of the competition, but great styling inside and out, comfortable, and AMAZING seats. I would definitely look at an R-design if I was so inclined, or better yet, a WAGON!

Just curious, how did your last two Korean cars let you down?

The best, most comfortable, seats I've ever been in were in an S60. Wish I could put them in my G70.

I've heard they had some of the best seats. Out of all the cars I've had, the G70 seats are the most uncomfortable.

Agreed. For me, if it weren't for the seats, the car would be damn near perfect as an all around daily driver/sports sedan. The seats prevent us from taking it on any long (more than 2-3 hour) trips, which often means we have to take my wife's CX-5, which besides being an SUV, has the second least comfortable seats, haha.
Although they weren't as good as Volvo's, I miss my BMW seats.
