Hopefully the same for Android auto. I'm not willing to switch to iPhone simply for that feature. I wonder what other apps will be available in the bluelink app store and will they require a subscription to download?A salesman told me carplay could be downloaded from the bluelink App Store in the future. I would take it with a grain of salt though.

If it does end up officially on a '15 MY genesis and they don't retrofit then that is a terrible move on Hyundai's part. They would be punishing their early adopters and would have several upset owners on here I'm sure. I'm still going to hold out hope that carplay and android auto end up being apps that become available for download in the car later this year. #wishfulthinkingIt appears from most reports, current 2015 and prior vehicles will not be able to use CarPlay. It is unclear if an upgrade is available once it ships on later year 2015 models.

I understand that's how a lot of companies do business but that doesn't make it a good move in my opinion. If you still want the pioneer sales then say what you are working on that will appear in later in the same model year. Anything slated for the next model year is obviously out of the question. And make a promise to your loyal customers to make the upgrades. It seems that these two features simply weren't ready for prime time prior to launch so their availability got delayed. Why should the consumer pay for their failed project management?I hate to tell you this, but early adopters are pioneers. Pioneers are the one with arrows in them. The upside is you get to be the first one on the block with a brand new model. The downside is you find the things the engineers may have missed or could not get done in time and hopefully others benefit over the following years.
As far as CarPlay, it is unfortunately not just the availability of an app - it is apparently hardware or firmware that would need to be retrofitted in early 2015 models of both the Sonata and Genesis. The "app" will simply communicate with a CarPlay or Android enabled headset, which these cars shipping now evidently do not have.
This is nothing new, it happens all the time, especially with tech stuff. BMW did this with the 2011 models when they offered "BMW Apps" which allowed enabled iPhone apps to use the cars unit. It did not ship until later in the MY2011 cars and if you missed it, you missed it. I believe there was a for fee retrofit later and some third party hacks, but unless you knew it was coming, you did not get it. Same thing with Mercedes E class color displays - it happened late in the 2011 run.

Once again I get that there are several examples of companies that would not do that but just as they announced there would be downloadable apps, they could announce late arriving products that they absolutely intend on bringing to the car that model year. At least I can decide wait or buy now if you have that flexibility in your buying timeline. I, for instance, did not as I had a lease to turn in by 6/28 so I had to buy something before then. look through the genesis app features on Google play and notice how many are listed as "late arrival" and then tell me again how car companies dont do that...No company is going to announce a car shipping and then lay out their product development plan. Look up Osborne Computers. When you buy a car model you buy that car and the features it has listed. There is no guarantee of upgradability for new features and the only way to stay ahead is to research as much as you can. CarPlay was announced as coming later in the model year before this car shipped, so if it was a priority, one could have waited. Some things cannot easily be upgraded and the cost to do so can also add to the price.

Which one is the ultimates running?Don't know about Sonata, but I wouldn't hold my breath for getting Genesis updated w/CarPlay or Android Auto. I'm more interested w/the latter and the fact that non-Ultimate/Ultimate gennies are running even different OSes (Android and Meego) makes it pretty clear that Hyundai will have hard time updating both.

My dealer (Oxnard, Ca) said that they had information that in about 3 months Hyundai would do a firmware update to add Apple Car Play to the infotainment unit. I'm a little skeptical, but the dealer/owner felt it will come around the time when the next iPhone is released. We'll see!
New video showing CarPlay in new 2015 Sonata (skip to 3:50). As a side note, the Sonata sure looks like a Genesis inside except it has heated rear seats...
