If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was wondering if this issue could be cleared up. I have read a lot of contradictory information about this subject online. Does anybody have any credible information as to the likelihood that Hyundai will provide a upgrade for all 2015 Genesis and Sonata models once Apple officially releases Carplay?

It does appear that the upgrade will require the optional 8 inch navigation screen.

For many buyers this will be a make or break issue including myself. So any insight will be greatly appreciated.

I was in my local dealership on Saturday talking to the sales manager and Apple Car Play was brought up. He did say that it was coming and would be retrofitted (assuming if vehicle is equipped properly). I wasn't all that interested so didn't ask any questions. I did get the impression though that the Android version was either already available or coming sooner than Apple Play.

Thanks for sharing your experience at the dealer...

Not as much activity on this topic as I would have thought. Its a big deal to me though. I have heard more about the 2015 Sonata upgrade then the Genesis Upgrade. I may just wait until i know for sure before I buy.

I spoke with dealers and did research online. Car Play is definitely an update for Sonata and 2016 Tucson. Would like to know if my 2015 Genesis can be updated with Car Play. Definitely a bonus if it is.

It wasn't make or break for me. The 2015 Genesis is a great car and the technology is amazing. The system already has SIRI, so you can, for example, say "Play Fleetwood Mac" and the albums from your iPhone or Apple Music will play on the system. They sound wonderful. So, what would be added with Apple Carplay is even more functionality such as app icons on the Nav System in the car. Definitely a positive. Still do not know if and when an upgrade to Carplay will be available for the Genesis.

Sounds good. Looks like Hyundai is at the forefront on Apple's Carplay. Here's the copied post from the link: [and my watch is ready!]

I started my car with my watch this morning!!

response from email I sent to hyundai

Thank you for contacting the Genesis Customer Care Center. We appreciate your inquirty about Apple applications and services for your 2015 Genesis. We are looking forward to offering the full functionality of the Apple Car Play and the Bluelink for the Apple Watch.

At present time Apple is still working on the Apple Car Play functionality. We do know there is ongoing testing at present time and we may roll that application out to a lower trim line in order to ensure full functionality of the application first. Hyundai wants to be certain that our Premium customers do not needlessly experience a loss of time or needless frustration before offering for the Premium line of Hyundai Genesis and Hyundai Equus. We are hopeful the application is rolled out shortly but we do not have a definite timeline.

When the Apple Car Play does go live expect to find the application available in your 2015 Genesis entertainment center under downloads or applications available for download.

The Bluelink for the Apple Watch is available. You should be able to locate it in the Apple Store. The Apple Watch is a potentially great back up for the Iphone enthusiast.

Below is the response I received from Hyundai Canada when I asked if they will be adding Apple Carplay to the 2015 Genesis:

"Thank you for your email inquiry. The CarPlay program is currently under investigation and we should be releasing some of our 2016 models with this option. However, at this time, we cannot confirm if the program will become available for 2015 vehicles."

I'm not very optimistic on this one....

I received the following today:

Thank you for contacting the Genesis Customer Care Center. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you with your inquiry on Apple CarPlay and the 2015/2016 Genesis.

At this time, Apple CarPlay has not been released for any of the Hyundai model lines. Currently, the only plans for Apple CarPlay release is for the 2015 Sonata. This will be released for the 2015 model year Sonata vehicles with Navigation systems.

As Apple CarPlay is currently only being planned for the 2015 Sonata, we do not have any information on plans for other models or model years. We do not know if the 2015 nor the 2016 Genesis will be compatible with Apple CarPlay. We apologize for any dissatisfaction this may cause.

As of this moment, we currently are not aware of a release date for the 2016 Genesis. We receive release information at the same time it is released to the general public. There are two sites that you can monitor for up to date release information. Hyundainews.com and hyundaiproductinformation.com are two wonderful resources to view the various Hyundai model lines and any updated information on design specs, release dates and pricing. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We have documented your comments and created case number xxxxxxx.. If you have any additional questions that we can assist with, please reach out to us again at any time and reference your case number above. We can be reached by calling our toll-free customer service number (877) 378-8727.

I have recently contacted Dave Zuchowski at HMA who had the following to say about Apply Car Play for our 2015 Genesis.

My response from Dave:

"Jeff - Thanks for the note and we really appreciate your interest and loyalty.

Ricky - I know this has been a moving target but can you please provide Jeff with our latest assessment? Thanks!

Dave Zuchowski
President/CEO
Hyundai Motor America

Ricky Lao responded with:

"Hello Jeff,

Hope you are doing well. Thank you for the note and for being a loyal Hyundai & Genesis owner. I share your frustration regarding the lack of news or updates on the Car Play and Android Auto compatibility question. Our electronics and cross carline teams here in the US have been working diligently across all vehicle lines to address this issue.

I don't have an ETA on when the official announcement will be made on this topic but I assure you that we are well aware of the owner frustration regarding this issue and hope to address it properly soon.

Best Regards,
Ricky

Ricky Lao
Sr. Manager, Product Planning"

My response back to Ricky & Dave:

"Good morning,

Thank You both for your quick responses. Will Apple Car Play be coming for sure and you just don't know when yet or is possible that we will not be getting it?

Sincerely,
Jeff Jones"

Ricky's response:

"Hi Jeff,

All options are in play. Which engine and trim of the 2015 Genesis you currently own?

Best Regards,
Ricky"

I responded with my car information just now and am pending a response. Bottom line is they all know we are questioning when we will be getting Apple Car Play and they are in fact working on making that happen. If I get any future updates I will post them here.

Great inquiry. That's the most substantive response I've seen yet. Sounds like there very well could be different time lines or even availability for ultimate and non-ultimate Genesis'.

Here is the response I received from Ricky Lao on 1/19 after I inquired about ACP and AA:

Thank you for the email. I so badly wish that I had an official answer to your very legitimate question. I know that I will sound like a broken tape player when I say that I unfortunately still do not have any updates on the status or availability of either Car Play or Android Auto for the Genesis sedan. I apologize for my late response and inability to address your question properly at this time.

Best Regards,

Ricky

Since he said "all options" are in play and asked you what trim you had in response to your question on whether it was delay or if we just might not ever get it... it could also mean that, based on trim, all might NOT ever get it.

Will be interesting to hear his next response as you shared what system you have...

They are clearly aware of the owner frustration, and they should be aware that frustration (whether it is ACP/AA, sunroof rattle, seal or any other issue) doesnt help develop brand loyalty as they rebrand to Genesis Motors. I would very much like to have AA, especially that Sonata and Elantra will or already do have it. It would also leave a bad taste in my mouth if it becomes available on non-ultimates but never for the ultimate. How that would affect my future purchasing decisions? Hard to say, but I would give it some thought along with any other issues that develop.

I have moved on from "needing" this capability and will not let it ruin what has been an otherwise excellent experience with this car.

The fact that I can't access Apple Maps on the nav screen does not phase me and if I have to plug the phone in each time, it would likely not be used much. On my previous BMW, I stalled my build to ensure I would get "BMW Apps", which was being added to allow phone access with apps. When I got the car, I really only used it or twice and regretted waiting for an option which I never really used. The fact that other lesser cars have the option now only proves that tech is an ever evolving phenomenon and the next big thing is just around the corner and likely not compatible with what you have.

Great post/point. Everyone wants the newest tech and the latest and greatest bells and whistles but how many of them are needs? I would certainly take the upgrade but it won't affect how much I enjoy the car.

I'm truly enjoying the car every time I sit inside. Android Auto would be nice because the navigation in the car is lacking and the voice command is nearly worthless. Hyundai said Genesis would have these features and that's where my issue lies if in fact it's never rolled out. It's not my expectation that some new app/tech that is developed in 2018 becomes available on a 2015/16 model year car.

I get it. Everyone has things they like more or less than the next owner. I don't find any problems with the nav but I also do not use it religiously. I drive to work and back and only really need it when I am heading to a golf course I am not familiar with in the summer. I could see someone who drives for a living needing a more expansive navigation, or just someone who uses it a lot.

MoabGen, while I know it's similar in respects to CarPlay, Android Auto is a totally different beast and updates on CarPlay should be considered orthogonal to Android Auto. I do understand your frustration though; I in fact was going to wait until AA was available before buying my Genesis but decided not to.

The thing I'm most looking forward to in AA (with full recognition that this might be something I have to get in my next car) is the ability to listen to and respond to text messages in a hands-free manner.

Plus - Apple Maps sucks! We actually already have Siri Eyes Free with no wire, so texting and e-mailing is already possible - I'm not overly concerned about Carplay. I would like to see Android Auto as Google Maps is nice (and I could ditch the iPhone).
