  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Are your front sensors working

A month or so ago I posted a thread about my front sensors not working. The advice was to take it to the dealer as no one else seemed to have my issue. To recap, my front parking sensors will not work unless I stop, put the car into reverse and then back into drive. The sensors will then work perfectly. I sent the car to the dealer and they found no fault. To thicken the plot, they tested 3 new G70's on the lot and discovered that they behaved the same as mine. In their wisdom, they decided this must be normal.
It is far from normal if someone has to shift a car into reverse to get the front parking sensors working. BTW, this problem only developed when the car was 4 months old as for the first 4 months they worked as they should. The reason for this new thread is to solicit some response from the community. Who out there has the same problem and who of you have front parking sensors that work the way they should? Thank you

Just so we are on the same page, how are you defining “as they should”?

Stinger owners also feel your pain, just an FYI there is a long thread on that forum with the same issue you describe

What does you manual say? This is from the G80 but I doubt yours is different
Operating condition
- When the Engine Start/Stop button
is in the ON position
- When the shift lever is in D or R
position
- When the vehicle speed is not over
6 mph (10 km/h)

Me thinks your dealer is full of crap and should read the manual

That's BS what the dealer is saying. My front sensors work all the time when the P button is pressed (ON) and when I put the shift lever to Drive (w/o having to put R before) or when I put the shift lever to Reverse.
The rear sensors only work when the car is in Reverse.

This is what the G70 Manual says about the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse/Forward) System

Operating condition
• This system will activate when the Parking Distance Warning system button is pressed with the engine running.
• Sensing distance when backing up is approximately 47 in (120 cm) when you are driving less than 6 mph (10 km/h). • Sensing distance when moving forward is approximately 39 in (100 cm) when you are driving less than 6 mph (10 km/h).
• When more than two objects are sensed at the same time, the closest one will be recognized first.
• If you move the shift lever to the R (Reverse) position with the engine running and the Parking Distance Warning system off, the system will operate automatically. But it will turn off automatically, when the vehicle speed exceeds 12 mph (20 km/h).The system will not automatically operate again even if vehicle speed returns to 6 mph (10 km/h).

I appreciate the responses. Here's a clearer explanation. I arrive in a parking lot and approach the curb. The front sensors do not work. I put the car into reverse and then back into D and the front sensors activate showing my proximity to the curb.

I had the same issue for a week or so after bringing the car home from a dealer service appointment. I eventually found that the parking sensor button in the center console area was turned off by the dealer. I pressed the button to re-enable the sensors and then it started working properly again. Perhaps in your case it's worth toggling the sensor button off and back on a few times to see if this might remedy the issue.

I'm almost sure this is the reason. If you look at the manual,
"• If you move the shift lever to the R (Reverse) position with the engine running and the Parking Distance Warning system off, the system will operate automatically. But it will turn off automatically, when the vehicle speed exceeds 12 mph (20 km/h).The system will not automatically operate again even if vehicle speed returns to 6 mph (10 km/h)."
That would explain why the sensors work when the OP put R on the shift lever.

Maxsilver you are absolutely right. That button was off and all is good. Clearly my mistake but wouldn't you think my initial call to Genesis and a visit to the dealer would have found that issue right away. They even checked cars on their lot and couldn't figure out the problem. I even spoke at length to the service manager.
Car is great, service not so much, at least so far.

I've had similar frustrations with my service visits so far, they really don't seem to be very knowledgeable in how to repair issues with the technology in this car. If there isn't an error code that they can pull, they are completely unable to diagnose any issues the car is having. Hopefully that improves over time.

So, just to clarify what I read above, the G70 parking sensors (F & R) are "on" when I press the button and the lamp in the button is lit & the rears also operate automatically when the trans is in "R"; correct?
Enjoy,

I've been playing with this.

I think there is a delay for the front sensors to kick on. As posted above you must below a specific speed BUT, here's the important part, you have to have been below that speed for a bit.

Meaning, if you slowly creep into a spot, over a few seconds seconds, then the front will beep as you approach a curb. If you come in hot then NOPE. Works for me.

Also, I have noticed that if you flip on the front camera they'll beep sooner.

Front sensors worked automatically on 2017 G90. Not so on my 2020 G90. On the 2017 G90 parking sensor button remained on until you turned it off. On the 2020 it turns off when ignition is turned off. Had a 2021 as a loaner and it behaved the same way the 2017 model did. Also not an issue with my 2021 GV80. Asked service manager last time car was in for service. Clueless!!

I am having the IDENTICAL problem. They worked fine up until 2 months ago (worked for 20 months). I have taken it to the dealer twice and was given the response as you received- it must be normal.

There's an option in the setup > vehicle > parking section which allows you to keep the sensors on or off, which means you have to hit the button manually everytime. This is the case for my 2022 G70.

I’m having the same issue with my 2022 G80. I have to put my car in reverse and back into drive for front sensor to work.

I have a 2015 Genesis 3.5 and the front sensors had stopped working when I was parking (driving into a spot). I tried shifting to reverse then to drive and magically they worked. Checking a bit further I found that the "Parking Sensor" button on the console had been turned OFF ..... duh moment.
