  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

With smart key in pocket, I approach car and press black button on door handle and voila, all the doors open. Anyone know if the car can be programmed to only open driver's door on first click and then all doors on quick second click? In dark or secluded places, I'd feel more comfortable if only my door opened.

Which door button? Passenger or driver?
I believe by default, at least on the U.S. models (not sure about Canadian), the proximity unlock button only opens the driver's door on the first push, the rest on the second. I think pushing the one on the passenger's side will open all locks.

In the U.S. manual, it explains that a Hyundai dealer can change the behavior of the driver's button from unlock just driver's door on first push to unlock all on first push. In fact, when I had my dealer do that, the service manager tried to talk me out of it for the same reason you're expressing.

I would assume that if your car is set to the "unlock all on first push" and you're talking about the driver's door button, you can get your dealer to set it to the way you want it to.

EDIT: The default behavior might have changed on the 2010 model?

As always, my thanks, and I'll give my dealer a call tomorrow and will ask him about changing.

I hope they are able to program it to open all doors on all buttons. I previously had a Veracruz Limited and this was a pet peeve of mine. Never asked the dealer if they could reprogram it though. Thanks for the tip, hopefully my dealer can fix mine. Canadian default is the same as the US FYI.

I have a 2010. The default behavior is one push on the driver side, unlock the driver's door only. The second push will unlock all doors.

I asked my dealer to change it so that one push open all the doors. No chagre of course.

On our Canadian 2009 Genesis sedan, the button on the driver's door unlocks only the driver's door. If you want to unlock the other doors, you have to push the button a second time. On the passenger's side though, the button unlocks all doors the first time.

Yup. My '09 is set this way as well.
I wish they could've just implemented the function where the user can set their own preference rather than having to go to a dealer to set it up.

Early on in the ownership of my 2009 I asked my dealer to re-program the system so I could un-lock all doors from the drivers side with one press on the drivers door handle button. At that time he said they couldn't find a way to do that, even though he agreed the manual said they should be able to. I haven't asked lately if this is now possible, but I will at my next service.

I had my 2010 in yesterday for service, and had it changed. The first mechanic played with the scanner/programmer for 15 minutes and declared it cannot be changed. Another mechanic stopped me on my way out and reprogrammed the door locks in less than 1 minute.

My dealer is just plain dumb I guess as he said it cannot be done since the single push is a safety feature. Yeah right!! Can someone here confirm that after programing the button on the drivers door, it will unlock all doors with a single push after being reprogramed by their dealer. I need to go in there and show them this post to prove that it can easily be done but they just don't know how to do it.

2010 Canadian car

1 press on drivers button unlocks just the driver's door. 2 quick presses on driver's button unlocks all the doors.

1 press on passenger door unlocks all the doors.
(I believe this is programmable)

look at my post above yours, its just a matter of getting the right tech.

Same thing at my dealer. They staunchly claimed it was impossible to reprogram anything to do with the key fob or door handle buttons on any Hyundais. That was until being informed of the exact page number in the manual that states that it is quite possible. After confirming that the manual does indeed say that, they talked to their tech who eventually agreed that it could be done (probably had to phone a higher-up for some directions). So, after some considerable back-and-forth on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the service guy comes back and says they'll do it today --- for $90. Needless to say, it didn't happen. My next closest dealer will be paid a visit here fairly soon.

Summary:
- Your dealer probably won't have heard your request before.
- Your dealer might think the reprogramming is impossible.
- Since you know it is possible, come prepared. Flip to page 4|7 (for '09 and '10 sedans) of your owner's manual and show them the paragraph on the top-right corner:
✽ NOTICE
An authorized HYUNDAI dealer can
change the system to unlock all doors by
one pushing the button in the driver’s
outside door handle. If you want this
feature, consult an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
- If they want to charge you for it, tell them it is a quick fix and is a service that should be free of charge on a luxury vehicle like the Genesis.
- If they try to call your bluff, there's always another dealer, right?

I hate dealers like that. Seriously.... If they knew what the hell they were doing the procedure is probably less than 30 seconds.... I would follow through and write a letter to the manager.

The strangest part is they said they could program the key fob door lock to function on 1 hit for all doors but not the door itself. Now being they previously said it cannot be done because of a safety feature, what would make it safer if I did it with my key fob. Sometimes you have to wonder. I did tell them it says so in the manual!! They say it is a typo.

We all know it can be done. My local dealer said the same thing until I persisted and got it done. If you have tried more than once with this dealer, go to another dealer who knows what the hell they are doing!

Thanks everyone, will go in there today with both guns drawn and see what happens. If this does not work, I guess I'll have to shoot them and go to another dealer.:D

Turns out there was mass confusion and they had no less than 3 guys working on my car for at least an hour the day before. Even though I specifically told them I wanted the door button to open all doors, they tried doing the key fob with no success. We went out with the computer in hand and he said have you tried it to see if we programmed it. I said, why should I as I was told, sorry but we could not do this. Bottom line, they did reprogram the door handle yesterday as I had asked. Talk about miscommunication.

So here is another confirmation that it can be done. No charge by the way. ;)

Thanks for the follow-up. Glad to hear it finally happened for you.

Part of me feels fulfilled after these situations. I mean, our dealers honestly don't know any better a lot of the time... they're still not used to dealing with Genesis owners' concerns. If I can help enlighten my dealer - and in so doing improve a future Genesis owner's experience there somewhere down the road - so be it.

At the same time, I also think many of them could/should work harder to improve their service in certain areas; hopefully that will come in time. I don't have many complaints in general - they're a pretty standard dealership - but $90 to reprogram the behavior of an electronic lock seems cheesy.

I'll let you know when/how my lock reprogram situation is resolved.
