If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Auto Hold Problem

Driving two days without Auto Hold. I need this fixed soon.

Two days ago, I turn the Auto Hold on (I do this everytime I start the car). The first time I come to a full stop the Parking Brake sign comes on. Normally the Auto Hold sign changes color when the car comes to a full stop. And changes back color when I step on the accelerator. The car would go because of the Parking Brake. I had to turn off the Auto Hold and release the Parking Brake to get going after a nasty honking from the car behind me (I live in Long Island, NY).

There are three cases where this can happen (according to the owner's manual). 1) opening the door while on auto hold. 2) taking off the seat belt while on auto hold and 3) your car is stopped on a steep hill while on auto hold.

I belong to none of these three cases. I feel like there is a quick fix for this and reaching out to the board for some help.

BTW, I love my Genenis. I love the Auto Hold and SCC feature.

I have a '11 Genesis 3.8 Tech Pack.

Are you sure you just turned on the auto hold and not the em brake?
I have a 2012 and have had no problems and I use it all the time.

I was parked the other day on a semi severely sloped driveway unloading my buddies golf clubs and hit the auto hold. When I went to leave I hit the auto hold and nothing happened. Then I noticed the EM brake was on.

I have the same exact problem, But I have to turn off auto hold, put it in park and back in drive to turn the break off. Pissed off a few people behind me at a light with cameras. I was the only one who made it through by the time I figured it all out. Just all of a sudden? My dealer loves to say "there are no known issues with that" no matter what the problem is. So they will be looking at it Friday. 04/17/2015. Did you ever resolve your issue?

I have a '12 Genesis sedan 3.8 Tech Pack.

Even on level ground, if you leave it sit in auto-hold long enough, it will switch to the emergency brake automatically.

I think you're right.

I had it happen when I was stopped to get a parking receipt from a machine at the gate of a parking lot.

I think I'll stop using it -

Drove the car for a hundred miles today in the rain - that was a trip - the auto pos. on the wipers struck me as completely spastic - would much rather have a manual delay control like on my sonata

The gen. is a terrific car to drive - braking - steering - acceleration, the whole bit, but the gee whiz gadgets are getting to me.

This is a feature most people don't think they'll use - but once they do - it's hard to live without. Sort of. :p I love it. And it's happened to me a few times where I'd be at a light long enough and the parking brake would engage - leaving me stuck when the light turned green. :o

What are you folks using it for? I live in one of the hilliest urban regions in the country (SF Bay Area) and I have personally never used the hold function. If I'm stopped at a light, I simply have my foot on the brake and given that the car has an automatic transmission, moving from a full stop even on a steep incline isn't ever an issue. I can see its benefit with a manual trans car where the likelihood of roll back is significantly higher as you juggle the clutch/throttle but with an automatic transmission I don't see the need.

I simply like taking my foot off the brake while at a light. It's relaxing...

It usually takes a lot longer than a traffic light signal. I can stop in my neighborhood to talk to a neighbor, and if I'm sitting there chatting long enough, it will kick in the ebrake then. I don't think I've ever had it happen at a light. Maybe at an ATM machine, if I'm too long.

It didn't happen to me at lights on a normal basis. Maybe when a light was unusually long or not working properly. It was definitely a very rare occurrence.

Happened to me at a traffic light once. I thought I had accidently hit the parking brake. I held up quite a bit of traffic before I figured out that the brake was on. It was at a light where no one could go around me. Very embarrassing. Now I make real sure I hit the right button when I hit the auto hold.

It's definitely an easy mistake to make. Especially the first time it happens. :p

Does the 2014 operate differently? If I have my parking brake set and then I push on the gas pedal, the brake automatically releases.

As for the auto hold, I have used it a couple of times, but overall I just don't see the usefulness to much for me. I think its just personal taste. But I do wonder, why does the auto hold not use the vehicle hydraulic brake system instead. It would seem to make more sense.

+1

I've used this "auto hold" feature a few times, like at drive-thru banks and restaurants, but, otherwise find it rather useless. Heck, I don't really have a need for the parking brake. But, as someone else stated, some of these whiz-bang toys are a royal pain in the arse. I cannot get my dealer to get my lights to work properly (auto on/off feature). Same thing about the supposed "auto rain detector" gizmo....... it sucks!!!

The manual says 10 minutes will effect a transition to parking brake mode - for what it's worth

You're absolutely right - I have never used parking brakes much except when I parallel park and some huge gas hog is nearby.

As to whiz bang toys - the genny is loaded with them - but I checked out other cars in the same price range and it's the same story - I found the mercedes e-class almost undriveable and even the "experts" say that ford products are over the top when it comes to gadgets. At least, the genny is supposed to be a bit more user friendly. I also agree about the auto rain wipers - useless.

But for me, it's the steering, braking, overall handling, smooth power/acceleration, quality control etc that I like. Even the A/C is great - freezes you out.
