If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. After having my car for about 1 month and 1/2, I ended up getting "challenged" by a Traffic Drum who was laying down in the middle of a curve on the highway lane at 4h40am. No need to say that it was not sunny outside. After evaluating the risk of going right or left at speed of light, i opted for the left... and yes... i already did started applying brakes...
BUT...
The Traffic Drum appears to have a mind of its own and started going left as well (WTF)....
Result... my new car entered into a BIG argument with the Traffic Drum (the BOOM argument)...
After i stopped, i was surprised to see how much damage there was on my car...
i cannot say the exact amount that will come out of this but... I would not be surprised that it will be higher than 10k...
Why... well.. a friend of mine has a Ford Mach E and he needed to replace the from ventilation plastic "flap" and mechanism since he took some snow going out of his driveway.
that alone was 1800$... and he replaced them on its own.
Now here, we are talking about the front bumper, lower "cowl", front gril, front ventilation system. front radiator... etc...etc.. etc..
As you can see from the photos... radiator hose were broken and coolant leaked out... well.. all of it.
I am super lucky... Why again... the front SRS sensor didn't trigger the front airbags.
Oh.. almost forgot... the car will be gone for possibly 6 months...

I will miss that car for sure...

I've never inspected one up close, but would have never guessed they'd be solid enough to do that kind of damage.
Certainly not fun; a substantial inconvenience; and may cost a few bucks, but at least no one was seriously hurt.

Best of luck.

What did you hit? You say 'who' so was it a worker in the road? Maybe your country or state in your profile would help as I am clueless about what you mean.
BUT, I am sorry that you had this damage, that's awful and I hope you can get it repaired soon!

He clearly said "traffic drum." Something like this:

"I ended up getting "challenged" by a Traffic Drum who was laying down in the middle of a curve" I swear I thought by this description it was a human!

In the US, they are called Orange Barrels! I learned something new today!

Its not hard to rack up substantial bills on new vehicles with any front end collision. I don't think your damage is over 10K, probably closer to the 4-5K range solely based on what I can see. The really expensive plastic trim pieces, hood, headlights, camera, sensors look fine in your pictures. I would be surprised if the airbag, seat tensioners would ignite in the described collision The two frontal airbag sensors are usually mounted on the forward subframe and typically need a high velocity condition and/or a fairly hard direct hit.

As a young man I used to work in a body shop and periodically I still rebuild salvage vehicles for "fun". Recent work included an almost new Honda CRV with 400 km on the odo, probably barely left the dealer lot, still had the window sticker and dealer paper floor mats installed. This front end collision had 30K estimated damages by insurance and promptly written off. I bought it for under 10K at auction, put 8K in parts, did all the labor including, paint, removing the engine for frame repair and just farmed out the frame straitening, front subframe replacement labor at 2K. Got it inspected and passed first time with no remediation by a third party body shop and by my provincial authority inspector. Unlike some jurisdictions my province is pretty overly thorough with their inspections. All in it took 2 months to complete part time in evenings after my actual job but in the end I probably saved 17K over an equivalent new CRV. My wife still drives the car and has put over 120,000 km on it. We will keep driving it until the wheels fall off or it possibly gets written off again.

So you drive a new GV60 and stick your wife with a former salvage vehicle? I sense a divorce in the future.

forgot to mention that this traffic drum was not part (or close to) a construction "area". It was not part of a series of traffic drum also... So no "flagman" of any kind... it was the only thing there on its own... in the middle of the left lane... on the highway... waiting... for its victim...

lucky me... it didnt had the regular weight at the bottom... which would have, for sure, trigger the front air bag.

oh yes i forgot... the front collision alert didnt "alert" as well...

as for estimate... i do understand that for some ... 10k would be very high... but for me... its clear... it is a minimum ... as soon as i get the numbers... i will share...

brace yourself...

Would you have any recourse with whomever might be responsible for the drum being where it shouldn't have been?

Yes Sir...:sneaky: this drum has a special color at the bottom which... the company owners advertise to be their own on their web site... And since they are doing major work about 25kms away from there with the same "drum"... with the same color... would be pretty hard to say they dont own it. As well, the MTQ (minister of Transport of Quebec) also have a responsibility since they are the regulation authority for those company on HOW to install and limit the amount of time that they can leave the "drum" there when work is finished.

All of those info (web site, pictures etc) were provided to the Insurance company and still after 10 days... i have not been given an estimate of the repair cost.

For now, i am at my wife "merci" borrowing her Mach E to go to work :whistling: for what i believe to be the next 6 months... If it is less... bonus...

I already miss my "G" ride...

i sure hope that doesn't happen to no one else...

Oddly enough she is intimidated by the GV60. CRV is her winter gig, her summer fun is a manual Mini(another one of my rebuilds, that was fun... outside of the body work I virtually replaced every seal, plastic bit in/on that engine, thanks BMW! :( )

The mini does sound like fun.

Hit one of these drums at 60 mph in early 2000s with my big Buick ... had to buff out the scratches!

Wanted to give an update on this... well... my car is STILL at the dealer and the final estimate is not done because some parts dont even have parts # and price... so far... with 2 parts missing we are at +/- 4k of parts ONLY... i have attached some pic of the front of the car... i am not impress with Genesis Canada support... the dealer and bodyshop are not to blame here... send an email to genesis canada directors and finance division etc for them to act on this... at this pace.... i wont have my car before christmas... like i said... dont hit a cone at all cost...

Hello again...

Well well well... finnaly got my car back... 3 months after the accident... BUT... not for long... and not done right.

Total of +/-7500$ damage... so far...

After dealing (or should i say trying to) with an insurance company (just think about Mr Huard) that dont answer email... dont follow up with the dealer and/OR bodyshop...
They are just INVISIBLE and unprofessionnal

And

After dealing with the dealer (or should i say trying to)...

Got my car...

First... when i got in my car.. the stearing was dirty... was told to clean it... and if i could not get it off they would see what they can do ???? WTF

Also....

The bodyshop painted a bumper that came with malformation.... and the dealer re-installed it unevenly... as well as the front bumper active ventilation mecanism (that open and close to cool the battery)... BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT ... THEY RE-INSTALLED the system BACKWARD... and now... the "flaps" are on the wrong side...so... not only are they open when the car is off... but they close when the car runs... and... the rough side is on top... That is what i call colling Battery... the GENESIS way.

How... the FU... can a DEALER who supositively knows his sh.... have mecanics as stupid as this...

Sent them an email within 3hr after getting my car to report the problem.... that was... 1 month ago... no one replied... or called...

To that... I will loose my car... again when they will get the new... new bumper... who will have to be painted... and installed... AGAIN...

GENESIS... CANADA... it is a shame that it is you that are the owner of such nice car design.... from what i can see... there are a lot of those GV60 for sale now... and mine will be for sale as well as soon as it is repaired.... i ordered a GV70... which i will cancel... and be very happy to do so...

You are far from beeing up to the minimum standard that a 80k$ deserve..

First time Genesis... never again...

I will make sure to send a professionnal email to the DG of Genesis Canada at the end of this... as well as lots of newspapers... and internet facing blogs.

I' sorry this happenned to you. I lucked out when I ran over a cone and all it did was pop some clips off one of the triangular covers in back. I ordered new clips and reattached. Was fairly simple.

Traffic cones here in the UK aren’t as substantial is that so although they could do some damage I doubt it would be that bad.

The bane of our lives are potholes! My GV60 required new suspension components after hitting one. Fortunately the local council accepted liability and met the cost.

Some update.
its been since the 4 of May 2023 that my car had to be sent to the dealer to have repair done after hitting a Single Cone (drum). after 3 months i got my car... and ... they told me that the bumper that they put on needed to be replaced (it was even put on completely off) ... AGAIN since they found out that it was defective due to malformation. told them i will go get my car and when you get the parts... you come and get it and re-do the job... again...

WELL... we are the 27 of December 2023 and i have not got any communication yet... not only that.. when i got my car in august... the stearing weel was all dirty... (and of course... it is white)... and they re-installed the front ventilation system "fine's" reversed... meaning when the car is off... they are open... and when its on... they are closed.... took pictures and sent them the info... havent got anything from GENESIS Dealer and/or Bodyshop... NOT only that... in November 2023... when i got to install the winter tires.... i found out that they damaged (when FIXING MY CAR) the location where they are suppose to use special adapters to lift the car... so... they did NOT use the necessary adapter and therefore created 4 noticeable dents in all 4 corner of my car... Again... took pictures and sent all of them to GENESIS Dealer and/or Bodyshop... havent heard from them... Stay tuned because that is for sure gonna make the news... Especially if those dents have damaged my battery and i end up like the 2 Hyundai IONIQ 5 owners that were quoted +/- 60k to replace the battery. That is not OVER yet...

Bruh. Holy cow. I would have absolutely lost my shnizzle looooong long ago! That is an extraordinary display of complete incompetence, easily satisfying negligence and breach of contract.

Time to lawyer'up, bro. Tell them they can keep the car to help pay your legal bills, the costs for which you will add on to the price of the replacement vehicle they're buying you.
